Halftime review.

Spurrier did a good job of managing the half and not letting Ramsey get beaten like he did early against the Saints. That touchdown throw is a real confidence builder. It's one of the best throws you'll see from any QB and it's the type of throw that few guys can make. Ramsey has shown excellent accuracy and velocity so far, but, again, he's been allowed to get a feel without getting pounded. This could be a good sign in the second half.

The Eagles are a tough team and they play physical football. But, we've been able to take their shots and we're still standing with a rookie. The defense finally steps up and makes a stop and the second half may be interesting. The Eagles have taken advantage of missed plays on our part. That's what good teams do when they are comfortable with the scheme. A linebacker slips and they know how to take advantage of it for a huge gain.

That's a sign of a team at a place we're not. We're a team almost completely reliant upon emotion. We're a team that can't win if we're down and if we can capture momemtum we are suddenly somewhat dangerous. We've got momentum. Whether we can take advantage of that huge. Ramsey's play is impressive to me despite having relatively modest numbers. The team has to be confident despite being down 10 right now.

If we can make a quick early stop and take advantage of the feeling we have at the half, this game might fall our way. We are still an incredibly dumb team. We still make too many mistakes. We still don't understand where we're supposed to be too often on both sides of the ball. We still are prone to surrendering huge plays in all three phases. And we're still a team that has the talent to win when it believes. The first two series of the second half will enforce that belief or end it real quick.

I think that the key to our success will be our ability to run the ball when ramsey is threatening the pass. Hopefully Ramsey will be able to make a few more key throws so that the eagles D will start respecting him a bit more. If we can then punish them for that by running a little, we'll do okay on offense.

On defense, I just don't know. Lewis has basically uninstalled his vaunted scheme at this point. We're doing exactly what we did under schottenheimer for the most part, since we are going with many more man coverage schemes. Now everyone seems confused cause they are learning the 2nd scheme this year.

Not suprising.

I really hope we get the chance to fire him. But we won't.

(By the way I know the above is just the game talking and not me)

Typical 2002 Redskin football. We continue to cement the things we cannot improve.

a)Our all pro running back continues to prove he cannot hold onto the football. Aren't we taught, even in pee wee league, to cover up the football with two hands when faced with a crowd of tacklers. Good Riddance to the Stephen Davis era.

b)We cannot catch the football on a consistent basis. The Flemister drop in the flat is exactly why he'll be out of the league next year.

c)The Champ punt return project has failed miserably. He simply is not comfortable catching punts. Twice in two weeks he's muffed a punt and given the opposing offense six easy points.

d)We can't even execute the simple special teams play such as punt blocking. Marshall gets their a full second before the punt and still misses the ball and roughs the punter. Unbelievable!!!

e)The offense disappears for a handful of series each half.

f)We continue to let marginally talented players, in this case the fullback Martin of the Eagles, catch a dump off over the middle and turn it into a 40 yard game. Plus on the same play, we saw in highlight fashion why Terrell is a huge liability in the secondary... completely wiffing on the tackle. His departure can't come soon enough.

g)We can't even make a goal line stand with 12 men on the field. Unacceptable!!!!!

H)Our interior offensive line cannot even block a four man rush. That's five on four if anyone is counting.

I)The screen play is the most effective play against our offense. Overpursuit, lack of shedding blocks, and poor positioning continue to haunt our defense.

And the bright spot..... Ramsey showed poise and didn't falter under the pressure and engineered a nice touchdown drive. 8-11 for less than a hundrend yards and a touchdown isn't to bad against this defense. But, on the TD play, if never fails that the Redskins make it interesting by not securing the football after the catch. To often, the receivers let loose of the ball when questionably down in order to celebrate and taunt the opponents. Doering lost the ball due to how he caught it and the hit... but... still another play to hold your breath to make sure it counts.

happy with Ramsey.....same observations otherwise:

- dumb penalties, especially on offense

- lack of concentration

- no upfield push by the offensive line

- poor tackling at critical moments

- poor coverage of backs out of the backfield

- davis fumbles again

- champ fumbles again

special teams and offense have been putting the defense in a bad position all year long. the pattern continues today. we're not bad....were just not very good. how can anyone judge the coaches when the players keep making so many fundamental mistakes ???????????????
