nope, don't miss him. Seattle was missing not 1 but 2 starting CB's. Thrash had 1 catch against the Rams. If he does this a few times, then I'll eat crow.

missing him is not really an issue. he and his agent made it clear in the offseason, despite the Redskins having taken him as a waiver pickup and then developing him over 2 years, that he wasn't interested in sticking around Washington unless they exceeded the contract offer he got from the Eagles.

that was a not so subtle way of saying he wanted out of town when Norv left.

you compare that to the way Derrick Mason and his agent treated the Titans. They listened to other offers and then sat down with Tennessee to hammer out a fair contract using his market value as a factor in that consideration.

They didn't hammer the Titans or give them an ultimatum.

the first step in building a team is acquiring and keeping players that want to be here.

it is no good to go out and sign players like stubby that were just in it for the money and continued to have closet loyalty and nostalgia for his SF days.

Likewise Thrash and Sellers didn't want to return for personal reasons but instead of saying that, made it seem as if the Redskins simply dropped the ball in handling their negotiations.

what you have to do is separate out their statements from their actions. smile.gif

I've always judged people on what they do rather than what they say.

As Bufford stated, Seattle was missing 3 of it's 4 defensive backs, including it's top 2 corners.

Thrash beat up on a rookie in his second game, and a guy starting his 2nd game and playing in his 10th game in 3 seasons. And they were playing man without any obvious safety help that I could see.

That's not to take anything away from Thrash, but those guys weren't pro bowlers by any stretch.

well, Mick that is fair only to the point that we don't have Donovan McNabb running our offense. Over 16 games players such as Thrash and Chad Lewis are going to be far more productive than our own receivers as long as our quarterbacks continue to carry a 14.5 qb rating.

I still don't understand why we aren't seeing more 3 wide receiver sets on first down to help spread the defense and energize the running game.

Lockett was brought in on the largest free agent contract we offered in the off-season and so far he is a shadow man on the offense.

If Alexander is going to continue to have the dropsies we need someone who can go over the middle and catch the bread and butter 7-10 yard routes to make this offense go.

Lockett supposedly is a sure-handed target that operates well in the middle of the field and converts third downs.

Seems we need him more now than ever.

Actually it was the Skins OL who didn't give the qb enough time to get the ball to the WR's by San Diego's CB's. Our WR's didn't even have a chance....except Stephen Butterfingers Alexander, he blew chunks.

The San Diego corners are average. McNeil is a physical corner and has good size and unfortunately that type of corner has usually controlled Michael Westbrook in the past.

Alex Molden, a former #1 pick of New Orleans, is a decent player that has never lived up to this draft position. The trouble is Rod Gardner was starting his first game and if you look at where the rookie receivers are right now around the NFL, you won't see any on the list of top performances from the first two weeks of the season.

Gardner had 5 catches for 40 odd yards. Not bad, certainly not outstanding.

At the same time Alexander and Bennett dropped some balls early in the game which if they had been caught would have forced SD to pay more attention to the Skins short passing game. Instead they were able to drop 7 into coverage because the Skins couldn't run against just the 4 SD down linemen and the TE's and FB's didn't present a credible threat.

But make no mistake. Jeff George did NOTHING in this game. He showed litte emotion except when he was pulled in the third quarter and looked like a player that had lost all confidence.

Other players pick up on that. Mark my words, if you brought in another qb who was more enthusiastic and upbeat this team would perform better.

I'm not saying they would become an offensive juggernaut, but that extra 5 or 10% that a good leader could coax out of the players on the unit would pay some dividends on the score board over 60 minutes.
