Johnny Punani2
YIPPIE!!!!! I called up Verizon about my voice mail account and during the conversation with the Rep I asked if they would ever offer DSL service for my area (I live in the boonies) and she said they are phasing out DSL in the near future for FIOS. From what I knew about FIOS it was only avail in major meto areas so I was thinking I would never be able to get broadband in my area. However, the Rep said Verizon plans on offering FIOS to everyone. I made a comment saying I lived way out in the middle of nowhere and she said it didn't matter. They are laying Fiber Optic lines everywhere and all Verizon customers no matter location would be able to get FIOS sometime in the future. It's prob going to take a couple of years but glad I will be able to get real broadband again. Satellite sucks!!!
MSJHWT
FiOS rocks, we just got it Tuesday, I love it, espically the TV since we didn't have digital cable before this.
Fergasun
It doesn't matter. Congress is going to kill the Internet as we know it within 5 years. America is already behind Korea and other Asian countries... everyone has got a T1 line... The only reason we are lagging is due to protectionism for the MPAA/RIAA... if everyone got FiOS than everyone would have the means to steal decent quality recordings of music and movies. MSJHWT
How is American "behind" other countries saying they have T1 lines? A T1s downstream is slower than Comcast/Roadrunner/etc cable (A T1 has max speed of 1.544megaBITS /sec, which is ~193kilobytes a second up/down). Comcast is capped at 6mbit down and I can't remember upstream, at most 512k or 768k..so a T1s upstream is faster...but Comcast/Roadrunner etc downstream is faster. And last time I checked....even with DSL it's not too hard to download a DVDRip of a movie or a Lossless quality album...

Ferg you really hate the government don't you - have a little faith...When you say *everyone* in Korea, you are excluding the rural areas ... it just so happens that a much higher percentage of people in developed Asian countries live in cities and they also have larger, more socialist governments that fund infrastructure. And the MPAA/RIAA have very little to do with stopping FiOS. The people trying to stop FiOS are the cable companies, who currently have a monopoly on high-speed internet. Don't worry though, there plenty of deep pockets on both sides, and believe it or not, Congress isn't always out to screw you over. There will be FiOS for everyone/everywhere, just as the weatherman promised.
Fergasun
DjTj, I don't like the fact that there is significant influence from corporations in our government.
