hkHog
I was listening to "the Huddle" on ESPN Radio today and they said that so far only twenty draft picks from this year's draft have been signed. We have already signed five out of the six we drafted! Just thought that was interesting, it's good to see we're getting a head start on things and if we sign Rocky soon we won't have to worry about guys getting into camp on time. I thought this was just another sign of how this team is becoming one of the best run franchises in the NFL.

swaroopm
In a column dated June 28, John Clayton also reports on ESPN.com that fewer than 20 draft choices have signed: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=2502785 Scroll down to topic 6. He says that the only first-day draft choice to have signed is #1 pick Mario Williams. Of course, it's only the start of July, so I don't think it's a big deal at this point whether or not guys have signed.
kappaluvacee
Good Find HKhog. It is not uncommon for teams to not have their draft picks signed 30 days till training camp. As much as I like the direction the team is headed, you must also take into consideration the position that the players we signed were drafted. The contracts those guys received were "cookie-cutter" contracts. For the most part those players contractually are camp fodder. The most difficult players to get signed are rounds 1 & 2. After those two rounds are complete the remaining players get contracts at a slotted amount based on what the guy drafted at the same spot last year received, plus some inflation. That's not a rule, but it is pretty much how it plays out in reality.

JoeSkins
Even if, God forbid, McIntosh holds out for a while, this defense will be just fine. After all, Junior Seau's still on the market.....
SonnyandSam
Negotiations for rookie contracts typically occur in July and August. Agents are waiting for the players drafted in front of their player to sign so that they do not agree to a lowball contract. So right now, everyone is waiting for the #2 pick to sign....then #3 will sign, etc. That will be the holdup on Rocky getting signed quickly. As a second round pick, his agent is going to hold off until he sees what the players in front of Rocky get paid. It will be even tougher this year because the CBA set aside less money for rookies than previous years. Actually, it was a good year for the Skins to not have a #1 pick. Rookie pool rules change again next year with a sizeable increase in money, as I recall.
