Skins bring in PK for tryout

This kicker has 66% accuracy for his career. I want to know why we got rid of Novak. He is the all time ACC leader and he is a Terp. Novak's only issue was that he kicked it a little low so he was prone to get blocked but at least he could put it through the uprights.

I'm waiting for Hall to be wheeled out from the locker room on a stretcher soon. When is this team going to realize this man cannot kick a ball without injuring himself? To say we have confidence in our kicking game has to be the worst statement I have ever heard coming out of Joe Gibbs mouth. I'm serious about this guys. I am never confident in our kicking game.

Tell me how many times we kicked the ball past the twenty last season? I bet you can tell me with one hand. I would just love not to have to worry about a kickoff for one measly game. Just one.

Joe Theisman was interviewed on ESPN yesterday, and what did he have to say about the Skins this year? The one question mark about this team is the kicking game. The damn kicking game. Could we please find a kicker and a punter who can kick the damn ball PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky :point2sky

Novak also didn't get it any deeper on kickoffs than Hall did when he was hurt.

Personally, even though I was roommates with Kuehn in college, I would have loved to see the Skins bring in Vanderjagt or Vinatieri to shore things up. However, I really feel that Kuehn could be a difference maker as either just a kick off guy or as a full time kicker at a minimum salary. The guy has never been hurt or missed a collegiate/high school game which would be a stability upgrade over Hall. As for the question of pressure kicking coming from a D1-AA school to the NFL, there should be no question. He kicked one of the most pressured kicks I've seen in 2004, JMU alums might remember him taking them down with a 47 yarder into the wind on the road as time expired to win.

This guy is clearly only going to be looked at as a kickoff specialist. 66% career on FGs and 61% in his Senior year ain't going to cut it.

And to the poster who said that Hall can't hit a 30 yarder, his miss against Seattle was his first miss from inside 40 in 3 years. His health is an issue but accuracy is not.

Thanks for bringing some sanity to this debate. The Seattle missed FG is the only time I can remember Hall missing a FG he should have made. Hall's kickoffs have been terrible, but there's no reason to slander his FG kicking. Many praise Novak, but if I remember correctly, he had a couple of his FGs blocked.

People like to ride Novak's jock here, but really, he didn't show that much when he was here. Short kickoffs and blocked kicks, while Hall is a proven comodity.

Also, there is no argument that when Hall is healthy, he's a pretty good kicker.

It wouldn't surprise me, tho, that if the Skins find a promising young kicker, that they will go into the season with two kickers. Not just because of kickoffs, but also to be a backup in case Hall gets hurt again.

In any case, tho, I don't see the skins getting rid of Hall this year. Kicking is just far too important to leave to rookies.

I'm very aware of Greg Kuehn.

Being a James Madison fan, I've seen him play several times in his college career.

Including kicking a field goal to beat us with three seconds left a few years back.

It's ok, we still won the national championship ;)

Give the kid a shot, he can kick the hell out of a ball.

Joey T. might be available for the season as Brian Barker just got signed to a contract. At least that would cover our punting game!

I see a lot of people are trying to defend Hall whenever someone post something negative about him. Some of you are too quick to talk about things Hall has done in the past but the bottom line is, he gets paid millions of dollars to do that job and we have every right to demand a lot from him. If you've ever paid the ridiculous prices for tickets (let alone the parking) well then you know what Im talking about, well my friends, those high ticket prices are primarily what pays Halls salary so the question will always be "what have you done for me lately?" If you don't believe what I'm telling then may I recommend that you refer to one Nick Vanderjagt FORMERLY of the Indianapolis Colts or perhaps one Scott Norwood, they both had great past but what they are remembered for most would be the "one that got away" If Hall can stay healthy and produce positive results.....keep him, if not.....can him!

the way i see it is, everybody keeps on saying "When he is healthy". There in lies the problem. i have nothing against Hall but come on every year around week 3 he hurts himself and we find ourselves scrambling for a kicker. The man is paid insane amounts of money to kick but spends half the season on the Disabled List. I understand he is a good kicker "when healthy" but that never happens. How many times are we gonna get burned by someone who does not do what it takes to stay healthy? i mean really how many of us would keep our jobs if we could only work half of the time. no matter how good you are your employer is not gonna keep you on. dont get me wrong i like Hall but his constant state of injury has really soured my opinion.

Today, the Redskins are working out Greg Kuehn 6'3'' 200 out of the College of William and Mary. Having attended the school myself I was able to witness his amazing ability. This guy routinely boots 70 yarders in practice and has no problem splitting the uprights on kickoffs, granted the kickoffs are a bit further back in the pros however I feel his ability here would provide a great boost over John Hall. A three time DI-AA All-American, Kuehn shattered all the kicking and scoring records at the College, a prestigious feat considering they were held by NFL veteran Steve Christie. Bias aside, I feel the Skins could not only save a bundle of money on a PK, but also upgrade the position. Attached are his career stats. Unfortunately, I was not able to find information documenting his long distance accuracy, however it is quite impressive.

Wow, I'd be torn, I'd actually have to root for a Billy and Mary kicker  Seriously though Kuehn has an outstanding leg, he has the talent to kick at the pro level. Definitely worth a look, especially if Hall gets hurt again.

In D-III, there are a lot of variables to factor in to that FG%--blown snaps, improper placement on the hold, line penetration, etc.--than in D-1 schools.

I don't doubt that someone on the staff has done the homework in the video room, & came to the conclusion that there's promise with this kid.

Accuracy varies from year to year with any kicker (just play fantasy football & you know that), and college success/lack of success is not the sole indicator of kicking success in the NFL.

    W&M IS NOT DIII, they are a Division I school! I-AA schools are Division I schools, with schollies, just less then I-A.

Gibbs has done this before.

I believe the fellas name was Cox

He could boom a kick off and was brought in for miracle 55+ yard prayer FGs

We could do this. I like the idea of RL as the 3rd QB behind. I think back then B Mitch was the 3rd QB. He even had to finish a game one time. It was funny. He just took the snap and ran mostly.

Collins is more of a tutor. We don't need him riding the bench active when we could have a kick off specialist and keep Hall fresh.

I think this is what Gibbs will do.

This guy won't get drafted, I bet he will be in camp for us though.

Signing this guy to the min salary allowed will be the best bang for the buck moves we make this year.

If he is what youll are saying he is, I believe he will make the team.

Cox was the punter at the time, but had a very strong leg. He was brought in to kick on really long field goal attempts. Interestingly, apparently he was the last player in the league to attempt a straight on field goal in 1987.

we got Chip Lohmiller in 1988 and he did both FG and KOs 1988-1994

B Mitch wasnt added until 1990

It was some time during his tenure that he was the 3rd QB for a few games. I cant remember exactly when.

this guy is pretty good. probably the best player since darren sharper to come out of W&M

He is good, but he's no Lang Campbell (who is tearing up Europe btw).

I like Kuehn, he is better than his statistics indicate. I've seen every Tribe home game and a few roadies since 2003, and he is a good kicker. He's the sort of guy where you expect him to drill it, and you are surprised when he misses. I'd love him to get a shot.
