lovetoaster
Chances are, we are going to need a kicker. I have seen talk on here about Vinatieri, Vanderjagt and Nick Novak, but I have not heard much about Longwell. I think Vinatieri is going to cost a little too much, I would not go after Vanderjagt for a few reasons, and Novak did well for us, but I do not think he is a long-term solution. Longwell would probably be my first option, and I think he deserves a serious look. He had a little of an off year in 2005, but is one of the most consistent kickers in the NFL. Has a strong leg and has never missed a game...which would be a nice change of pace. He has played in maybe the worst stadium for kickers and has put up very good numbers, hitting 82 percent of his kicks (226-277). Like Vinatieri, he is also a heck of a clutch kicker, with nine career game winners. I would not mind grabbing two FA's from the Packers, Longwell and DE Aaron Kampman. What do you guys think? :2cents:
terpfan
Luckily it seems like their are alot of good kickers available this year. Longwell is a good option, very consistant. Id be very happy with him.
TaylorPickSix
Yeah I too would be pleased with Longwell. Connor Hughes is another kid I would love the skins to draft in the 3rd, but only if we fill our more important needs. And is Frost going to be our punter? Or do we not have one now that we are cutting Tupa?
chaz13
I think that is a great option. He will be cheaper than Vin or Van and has a strong leg so maybe we can actually see one of our kickers kick it in the endzone.

Bangee7
Longwell is an upgrade in my mind. Of course, I've read on this board many times that Novack is a Hall of Famer.

Although he is ranked as the top kicker in some ratings, I see him being a second day pick. I would not mind having Hughes or Gostkowski from Memphis if they were available for a late-round pick. lovetoaster
Pass on Vanderjagt. Although has consistently put up strong numbers, they have been indoors and he is getting up there in age. Not to mention he has a knack for causing a little controversy. He is terrible on kickoffs as well, the last few years the Colts have had to use a roster spot for a kickoff specialist. I think we need to find somebody that can handle both duties.

bigyim
Ryan Longwell would be a great asset in Dec. & the inclement weather...a kicker tailored to "Redskin Football" (unlike VJ). Vinatieri is well-suited to that as well, of course, but probably too expensive.

Meant to be a reply to the post about signing Vanderjagt if he could stay sober. Even though it was probably TIC.
Ricky Ervins
I agree that Longwell is our best option. Better than Vanderjerk and cheaper than Vinateri

lovetoaster
don't you hate it when kickers "get liquored up and shoot their mouth off" ?? I have never been a kicker, but I have been known to both get liquored up and shoot my mouth off. But alas, not this evening. Oh, but tomorrow night...:2drunks:
speedmike
Bring back Nick Novak. All he did was come in, off the couch at home, and knock out a game-winning OT field goal against the NFC champs. Plus, he'd be cheap. I know the CBA just got approved, but that doesn't mean we have money just to carelessly throw around at aging kickers. I know the CBA just got approved, but that doesn't mean we have money just to carelessly throw around at aging kickers. Novak did do well for us as a stop-gap last year. But I do not think he is a full-time NFL kicker. He did make some big kicks, but he also had a few blocked. As I have said before, he does not have a high trajectory on his kicks and he does not have a terribly strong leg. He would be cheaper than most options, but kicker is a key position and I would rather have a more proven option. Nothing against Nick, he did a good job last season, but I have questions about depending on him for a full season. But who knows, I have been wrong before.
