Hail_to_Kessel
Hello fellow Skins fans! I have this site here which I think many of you will be interested in. As we all know it's VERY important to know our neighbors and the people who surround us. Here is a site which will tell you where all Registered Sex Offenders are. I think it's important to take note of this website and check it often to make sure your children are safe. Here is the site: http://www.familywatchdog.us/ Stay safe and stay aware BK
rincewind
I used to work at the Borders right next to FedEx stadium - before the Chargers game i went in to visit my old co-workers. I asked after someone i had hired - they suggested i go home and check out the sex offenders page. There he was . For the record, it was not my job to do the background checks; but i'm assuming he didn't list the offense on his application and was therefore fired for lying on it. Really disturbing considering how many kids visit that store. He was found out by a parent who frequented the site for her kid's protection - so yes, it is an invalueable tool. Good post. Predicto
I think it is important that we make sure that these people never hold any job or find anyplace to live for the rest of their lives. That will make us all safer.

That being said I'm gonna play devil's advocate. Let's suppose a sex offender does live on your block, what will you do? Force him to move? Where? I don't think sex offender rolls work, I think it gives parents a false sense of security. Parents should watch their children rather than rely on a website. I see way too many young kids wandering the streets. Frankly it never made any sense to me. Who says sex offenders just molest kids in their own town, it does not to prevent them from going to the next town. Also I get nervous when the public supports excluding a group, no matter how heinous that groups actions are.

The moral thing to do is to protect your children without using unwarranted coercion against the offender. (ie kids stay away from this house and that man, don't talk to him and run back here if he tries to talk to you).

Fatty P For The Pulitzer
I completely agree. I just don't get those people who think they should all get the death penalty. Who's advocating the death penalty for them? I'm sure you'd be singing a different tune if you found out your neighbor who is awfully nice to your pre-teen daughter is really a sex offender. Yeah, it's better to not tell your kids if someone in the neighborhood has been in jail for rape, because it's better for them not to be cautious around the person in case they are assaulted than it is to hurt the offender's feelings by ignoring them. SkinsNut73
eeeee! a lot of them live close to where i live....WEIRD.... There may be a lot of sex offenders in the area, but I think the degree of severity varies.... Let's say you, as a 18 yr old, were to be having sex with your 15 yr old girlfriend and her dad walks in on you...and decides to press charges against you. Will I be worried about you when I see your pic on the website? Most likely, no. But if you are a 36 yr old male and you have been convicted on 3 separate occassions over the last 4 years, and I see that you live 2 blocks away from my house...am I worried? You bet. ...and I'm going to tell my kids to stay away from you, your house, etc....
MoeRedskins
I live right next to a HS, so there weren't any in my neighborhood, but it is wierd to see how many live within a mile of there.

Tarhog
Common sense - get some. If you commit a sex crime, to a certain degree, you DESERVE the stigma. Thats not the same as saying you should be persecuted. Everyone, having served their time, deserves to be treated like a human being. That being said, sex offenders (and I'm not talking about the 18 year old caught with the 16 year old) are notorious for repeat offenses. Those of you who don't have kids, you may have an opinion, I'm just not sure you can understand the concern at the gut level those that do experience. Again, I'm a kind person, I'm not going to do anything with this info - none of these folks is closer than a couple miles away. But if they were on my street - my kids would go no where near that individual, and if I ever saw them close to my house for no apparent reason, I would approach them. That may not be fair, but 'fair' when compared to the love and sense of protection I feel for my children, just isn't paramount.

You would get nervous, if say, the public excludes pedophiles from being kindergarten teachers.
Pete
Thanks for the heads up. Seems there's a new dude on my block who is in violation of state law, and now a city law that just passed last night. The old state law satated a sex offender can't live within 1000 ft of a school, and the new city law is now 2500. AbleDanger
Huh? Do you have link to back that up? Not trying to challenge you, but that seems rather absurd. I have not looked it up. My only source is my older brother who is a Lt. Colonel in the Army. He says he knows guys in the military who have run into this problem. It's most absurd because when you see someone on a sex offender's list, you want to be able to trust what the list really means.
