We're headed for Lake Tahoe, tomorrow. We'll be staying on the CA side, next to the California Base lodge, at Heavenly. We'll be doing some riding, skiing, etc. Any ES'rs out there who have been to Tahoe? We're open to any tips, suggestions, etc., that you may have, (i.e. great restaurants, bars, etc?) Thanks!

I've been there twice, stayed in south lake. Heavenly is killer with all the big views of the lake while skiing. Lots of intermediate terrian. Eat at Chevy's

(upscale mexican) it's great.

Second trip we stayed at incline village (north lake). Northstar is big groomed and easy for intermediates, at little on the flat side for advanced skiers, probably a great place for boarders. Squaw Valley is very cool, site of the 1964 winter Olympics. More challenging but well worth it- GO!

Alpine Meadows is a great resort, call to make sure most of the lifts are open

as they had half of them closed (to save money) when we went there.

Just got back from Tahoe yesterday.

Heavenly is a great mountain but very crowded and over-priced. You should ski up there at least once because it has probably the best view. You can see the whole lake on one side and you can see the Nevada desert on the other.

I would recommend you make the drive to Kirkwood. Its cheaper and a little out of the way, so its not crowded at all. The snow up there is always the best and there are lots of bowls and great runs on the backside.

The winds sometimes become a problem so if the ticket person tells you no refunds be sure to ask why. Sometimes the winds get bad especially on the higher elevation mountains like Heavenly and it causes the lifts to close. (usually the lifts that go to the top)

I can recommend some good places to eat. One is Freshies. Its a local spot and has like 8-10 tables but the food is outstanding. Best fish tacos you'll ever have and they have a great beer selection.

Another good place on the California side is a Mexican joint called Margaritas. Its a little dive but trust me the food is very good.

You can spend some loot and head on over to the Chart House. The food is good, not great, and very high-priced but its probably the only fine-dining place in Tahoe save the Casinos.

Avoid any Italian or Japanese place. Do not eat at Villa Romas no matter who recommends it.

Have a good time and you should have some great snow up there.
