Larry
Full article Doug Flutie scores a PAT using a drop kick. First time in the NFL since '41. What it doesn't say is why.

DoubleA-Ron
That sounds pretty cool actually, although it sounds like it was on purpose for whatever reason. I guess when your the Pats you can do whatever you want. I really need to see a video of this

spanishomelette
Yes, Larry...Why indeed? Must've been lobbying by Flutie judging by his reaction to Bellycheck afterwards.
rebornempowered
A very good friend of mine is a football referee (high school only now due to family commitments but used to do D-I college) and he assures me that the drop kick and free kick rules are still on the books. We have had this conversation on many an occasion.
RedskinsOP
So what is this free kick rule? That if it is an extraordinarily short punt, and you do a fair catch, you can punt it through the uprights or something?

You kick it off of a tee and if she goes through the ole uprights it's 3 points. Last time I saw this Landry did it when I was really young as a last ditch effort to win a game. The Cowbums did lose. I don't remember who they were playing it wasn't the Skins though.
NYFootballGIANTS
I saw the kick... it's slightly different from a punt in that the ball hits the ground and they sort of kick it while it is in contact with the ground like an extra point with no holder. However, I am extremely curious why they did it.
rebornempowered
However, I am extremely curious why they did it. First time in the NFL since '41. Players have wanted to do it for some time. Seems to be ancient back up QB's that practice it. Jim McMahon wanted to do it when he was a back up in Green Bay.
