Question About 12th Man

Today during the Redskins/Giants game, I was told to do something by fellow "fans" that I thought would never happen. I was told to sit down while the defense was on the field. Everyone around me was standing, pounding chairs, etc. and the 2 rows behind me, people were complaining to me, my girlfriend, and my friend to sit down and not make any noise. Then the security guy yells at me for standing, I informed him that everyone else in the stadium was standing, and he said that it didn't matter, I had to sit down because these two rows were inconvienced. My theory is, if you want to sit and watch a football game, do it on your couch. Sell your ticket to real diehards who would love to be at FedEx. This completely astounded me, everyone around me thought it was BS, and it was. Then one of the sitting people, actually yelled for the team to play with heart, I whirled around and yelled, "If you can't get off your *** and cheer with heart then don't try and tell the players to use heart." I mean, the players are telling us to get up and get loud. This was a great win, I was glad to be a part of it, and I continued to stand despite 2 warnings, and eventually these "fans" headed for the exits. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Are there any solutions to this? If we have a home playoff game, I would hate to think "fans" like this are there instead of the jumping, screaming crazy people that need to be there. :logo:

It's been a topic of conversation here before and it is unfortunate that yours is not an isolated event. As a matter of fact, one of our very own was escorted out of Fed Ex last week during the Dallas game for standing up like you. Something is wrong with this picture.

I still don't get this......I understand the sitting down part (don't agree with it mind you, but I can understand) but to be quiet???

When you are at a stadium that asks (no demands) for the fan base to step up and be loud and support the team????

Isn't that what the 12th Man banner is all about?

I'm a tall guy in my opinion (6'3") so when I stand, I really crouch down so fans behind me who don't want to stand don't have to to see the field.

But I really wish that the security was better used to prevent brawls and curb the drunks than become polite police........

Something is definitely wrong, fans that go crazy are the reason for timeouts and false starts. They tried to use the "I paid good money for my ticket, why should I go through this?" Which I replied, "I paid good money for my ticket, why can't I stand and yell for my playoff bound Redskins." :logo:

goskins, we had a young man all of about 10 years old behind us last week and he was leading the charge. You and I both got out of his way when we could and I don't remember one complaint from he or his dad about us standing much of the game.

Couldn't agree more, I also understand the sitting, I'm fairly tall also (6'2), but I would like to be able to stand and make as much noise as possible when the defense is one the field. I did stand occasionally when the offense was on the field, not to spite those behind me, but because it is a habit. During the Dallas game, I and those around me never sat down. I guess just caught some people on a bad day. :logo:

And he was told to sit down again today. We found out who the culprit was...an older guy who went to security again today and then walked past us and said "I got you kicked out last week, I'll do it again this week."

Fortunately, the Security guard working our section was a little more reasonable than last week and no one was removed. Unsonny told the Security guard that we would like to make a complaint that the old guy wasn't standing up enough! The Security Guard laughed and said now the complaints have evened out.

Stand and Scream when the "D" is on the field or sit on the couch at home!!

Same thing happened to me. The guy was just an anal ***** because he had a Nationals cap on and he knows the Braves are permanent NL East champions. Anyway, it really bothers me when Redskins fans are rude enough to even ask politely for someone to sit down. It's rude, people can stand if they want!

Aha. Well, at least cooler heads prevailed this time around. :security:

This is a problem and it will take some while to remedy it. We as fans have to spread the word about the 12th man, what being part of the 12th man is about, amongst other things. We have to make this spirit contagious, and eventually this will not be a problem. But as a die-hard fan a situation like this totally suxx

Were you in Section 101 by chance??

I was in Row 8 - it seemed like the whole stadium was standing, but the whole 7 rows in front of us (on the 50 yd line) were sitting.

There was one guy in front of me that kept yelling for folks to sit down, and complained about the "rookies" that would stand the whole game. I shrugged him off that time, and then started screaming at him after he proceeded to continue yelling at the people standing up in front. His justification was that he is there for every game, whereas most of the folks are not lucky enough to be season ticket holders for such great seats.

My viewpoint is - the SKINS have not been to the playoffs since 1999, we have been underdogged all season, we finally have something to play for in December, and if I am lucky enough to have such great seats - I am sure enough going to stand and scream for my Redskins.

If a game is exciting enough to stand up for, than do so and be proud. Calling the ushers because you cant see is a wuss move. To all those who would rather sit, sit at home - Fedex would be louder without you. Bottom line is that we are all SKINS fans though - we should gang up on the opposing fans instead of ourselves.

All I have to say is this, if you come to the game, you better be screamin. If you want sit down and watch a game in peace, do it in the comfort of your own home. If you want to be at that game, you need to be a part of the game, that is one reason why we are there. This isnt a movie theatre, you dont have a large coke and a popcorn. you are at the REDSKINS game, OUTSIDE, with a BEER, stop whining and get on your feet. If you cant see, you arent jumping high enough. The same guy i commented about earlier in this post told me that he asked me to sit down because his wife was there and she couldnt see, i simply told him, that well my girlfriend was with me last week too, and when she told me she couldnt see, i told her to stand up. I told her she wasnt bein loud enough.......

I was in section 112, it was pretty good with the exception of the two rows i mentioned, and you're exactly right about the playoffs. Be Loud and Be Proud for this team, if they clinch Sunday, they will be in the Playoffs! No one in the media thought that would happen, and for people to compain because fans are showing support for their team is ludicrous. :gaintsuck

EYYYY u know what.. SOME1 make a sign that says

"IF YOU WANNA SIT DOWN HERE @ FEDEX, ENJOY THE GAME ON FOX ON UR COUCH"

LLS

that would be a great sign for all fans to see and I would think a sign like that would get a camera shot, therefore spreading a message to die-hard fans @ home who are yelling & screaming to maybe make more effort to come to FedEx.

I was in section 423 and like 6 or 7 people in front of me got thrown out of the game they were basically trying to kill each other. Think some Giants fan was nudging a guy around and all I saw was beer flying then like 6 people jumping over chairs until security came.

Another time like half of the 400 sections were looking at this one (think it happened in like 421 or 420 behind the endzone where the lockerrooms are) some Giants fans were fighting and some guys had to grab em and throw them around cuz they were fighting some of the field staff. It was really childish.
