Letting CJ walk would be pretty bad for the Nats
At some point you have to retain talent instead of rebuilding every 3 years

Last night, I really liked how Martinez brought in Harvey for the seventh and Floro for the eighth instead of the other way around. The heart of Boston’s order was due up in the seventh. Bring in your best guy instead of locking them in a certain role.

This ****head pulled a gun on an Uber driver who dropped his 13 year old daughter who had snuck out. Made him lay face down in n his driveway. Now, he’s playing the sympathy card because evidently you can’t do that even if you are in Florida and have previously served.

The Nationals have an OFer who has a 1.228 OPS in the month of May.
His name is Eddie Rosario. 🤣

Sorry, didn’t realize this would get posted in another thread.
Back to the topic at hand: Glenn Youngkin is tall. Thoughts? Yes/no
Tall, yes. But still got dunked on anytime he made it onto the court at Rice. Dunno what his future holds. He came into politics as MAGA packaged in what was thought to be an appealing wrapper for people who are embarrassed to be led by Trump. He doesn’t have many notable accomplishments, but carries two big embarrassments: losing the automotive plant in southern VA and getting hung out to dry on the Caps/Wizards stadium snafu. Can’t see him having much success in a Senatorial run. But who knows?

the thing that was voted on, stipulates the funding must be provided by private people. The board will oversee how the funds are spent but no taxpayer money is to be used for it.
The thing that always cracks me up is when people care about something that has no impact on them whatsoever.
I don’t live there. My kids don’t go there. I didn’t care when they changed it and I don’t care if they change it back. It’s their schools not mine 🤷♂️
I’d probably care less if my tax dollars weren’t going to that school system. They want to rename their schools for people who took up arms against the United States in the name of slavery, so be it. But fund your schools yourself then and stop begging for state funds.

I think people are really sleeping on House. He turns just 21 in 3 weeks. He has cut Ks, about 22% right now, and has an outstanding 12ish% walk rate. Has an .833 OPS right now. I am loving what we have coming.
Also, Jarlin Susana: cut BB/9 in half from 5.7/9 last year to 2.8/9 this year, while striking out almost 4 more batters per 9: 8.9 to 12.7 this year. SO/BB ratio is up to 4.6. His ERA is high (5.55) as his his BABIP: .432! Huge improvements this year--he keeps this up, he'll be on the top 100 by the All Star Break.
I think we (the collective we) are impatient. And it’s easy to look at prospects without considering their age at their level. Susana was over two and half years younger than the average age in single A last year. He struggled mightily. But he’s also adjusting to a program in his new organization. He’s going to be a volatile prospect who will have his ups and downs. His 2024 has been very exciting so far highlighted by the numbers you posted.
Brenner Cox is another guy to keep an eye on. Second professional year. Awesome athlete who turned down a football scholarship with the Longhorns. He looked completely lost last year. But keep in mind that a few years ago, he would have played a year of rookie ball instead of low-A. He’s starting to show some signs.
Honestly, we’re getting to the point (not this year, but possibly next year) where we move OF prospects for other needs.

Shenandoah County School Board votes to restore Confederate names to 2 schools
The people on the school board and those who worked tirelessly to get them elected are so soft. Participation trophy generation in effect.

House has been a nice story. There is no rush for him. But in his situation, is AA or AAA the place he should be?
Yeah, the organization should be commended for how they developed especially with his back situation.
I do like the idea of Hassell, Pickney, Crews, House, and Morales playing together. But I think it’s time for Hassell to AAA and House up there midseason.
I don’t know how you can’t get excited about future after the Orioles series and today.

The prosecution is no longer going to call Karen McDougal.
Defense wants gag order lifted so Trump can reply to Daniels’ testimony. Denied.
Motion for mistrial: Denied.
Rough day at the office for White Todd and Nesheles.

And this is the ultimate irony. As long as the cops have qualified immunity, we lowly citizens don't actually have any rights worth a damn. I have gotten so very tired of arguing with the ammosexual friends/family in my life about how you can't really have a right to own and/or carry firearms for safety if any cops can immediately shoot you dead because they see a gun on you. Especially in cases where cops go to the wrong damn house in the middle of the night and break in unannounced (you know, like a thief would) and get to murder the occupant without consequence because, well, they had a gun! What were the police supposed to do? This lowly citizen dared to draw a weapon on officers that made one of the most egregious errors they could possibly make. Didn't they know that, as a (usually) completely surprised and half-asleep victim who is just trying to defend themselves from surprised, armed invaders is supposed to have more self-control and discipline in chaotic situations than the (allegedly) trained police officers who completely ****ed up in the first place? But hey, look at the bright side, if a few years down the road a jury finds out that the police acted inappropriately, then your remaining family members might get to bankrupt your local town in a settlement while the officers involved get off with a mere paid vacation most times.
But hey, just because police officers are basically impossible to fire, damn near impossible to prosecute for breaking the law they're supposed to uphold, and can put you in jail for 3 days for bull**** reasons and never even have to charge you (but you did hurt their feelings, so think about that next time you encounter one), and are caught on camera (don't get them started on you being allowed to film them!) constantly planting evidence is no reason to not reflexively assume that they're always the good guys making the correct decision to execute somebody on behalf of the state.
Or maybe we just stop hiring Ned and Jimbo as police officers.
Good post.
I saw another article where they interviewed the woman who he was FaceTiming with. She claims. He heard banging on the door and he yelled “who’s there?” The knocking stopped. Then started again. He went to the door and by the time he peeked outside no one is there. That’s when he went back to his room to get his gun. Then the police broke in and shot him.
Obviuosly that’s just her side. But the questions are why were they there? Was it a case of thin walls, annoyed neighbor? Did police identify themselves? What was the need to break down the door?

Cops go to this guys apartment on a disturbance call. He’s home alone FaceTime-ing a woman. He gets his gun because he doesn’t know who’s banging on his door late at night. Police kick in his door and shoot him because he’s holding a gun.
Cops breaking into the homes of our servicemen and killing them. How is this excusable?

That was a good series and the Nats certainly look better than they have over the past couple seasons. I like the aggressiveness on the basepaths in particular.
Your team reminds me of the 2022 Orioles, a team that won 31 more games than they did the previous year. That team played a lot of close games, came from behind a lot and had that never say die attitude.
I really, really like CJ Abrams, that's a great piece to build around.
I hope the Nats rebuild goes well and it'd be awesome to see a Nats/Orioles World Series in the near future.
Honestly, they remind me of the 2012 Orioles. Getting a bunch of contributions from guys where you’re like, huh, I guess that worked.
Abrams is a boss. Though he had it off the bat in the 11th.

Fun night at the park. Young should have taken second on the wild pitch before Abrams’ single. Would have won it there.

If all goes well, 2025 looks like:
Abrams SS
Hassell LF
Crews CF
Wood RF
House 3B
Morales 1B
Garcia 2B
Ruiz C
That would be entirely home-grown starting cast, with a boatload of money to spend.
You add Young, Lipscomb, Adams, Garrett and Senzel and Thomas if they aren’t traded, then you don’t need to dip into FA on the position side.
If Morales needs more seasoning, you could put Hassell at 1B.

I look at it same way I did Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman...they wouldn't put they name on it if it was some bs.

To nobody’s surprise, it looks like Trump will be at a rally in Minnesota on May 17 - Baron’s graduation.
Not surprised White Todd asked for a mistrial. The prosecution was repeatedly warned about the line of questioning of Daniels.

The Washington Nationals Thread: The Future is Near!
in The Tailgate
Posted
It’s baseball. Garcia gives up a 90 foot squibler to put the go ahead runner on.
Two chances to add runs were blown with the Robles pickoff and the Garcia bunt DP.
Irvin was outstanding today. The rotation isn’t scary, but they have three young guys who are proving they belong and also have Cavalli and Gray working their way back.
Need to get Wood up here. I know that there’s a roster crunch, but plug him in there and make some tough choices.
