  1. QBs figuring it out after moving on does not happen often but Baker is a good recent example.

He got the bag to be the franchise QB from TB after flaming out w/ the team that drafted him and jumping around to several teams.

Ryan Tanny is another possible example. The dolphins traded him away for peanuts and he became Tenn's franchise guy w/ a monster deal.

Neither of these guys are elite QBs but Orgs saw fit to make them franchise signal callers and that should represent a "success" more than anything.

Steelers declined Fields' 5th year option, so he will hit FA next offseason. If he doesn't re-sign in Pittsburgh and can't find a starting gig, I'd love to bring him in as JD's backup. Similar skill-sets and he could occupy that back-up role for a long time.

I think he would need to get in the game w/ Pitt at some point and tank his value even further for that to be viable.

I think as things currently sit if he is allowed to ride the bench for a year somebody would offer him an opportunity to be in a competition to start rather than sign on somewhere as a defacto backup in FA. He's not a total catastrophe, he's just not good enough to be a better option tan a young cheap and promising QB.

On your line of thinking tho... How unstoppable is a read option w/ JD and Fields in the backfield? Yeesh.

JP Finlay on Mitch Rales' (co-owner 2nd only to Harris) recent podcast where he discussed how they intend to rebuild the fan base after decades of neglect and mismanagement.

    Good stuff.

Indoctrinating young kids is always a winning strategy to build up a fan base. Its both a short term and long term payoff.

I fully and 100% support the idea proposed by Rales. Its repeatable too, so you get the advantages with every new wave of kids.

That being said, I have always been a vocal backer of the multi-pronged approach when it comes to rebuilding the fan base and an excruciatingly obvious action does come to the very front of my mind in that regard.

I noticed a few times before the draft that JD addressed Quinn as DQ.  Seems like they have already established a good relationship which is good.

Either that or he's hungry. He is kinda skinny...

Those DQ chicken strip baskets are legit.

  5. Keim put up a chonky new article on ESPN. Its a long read but it is packed w/ info we did not know b4. I recomend reading it if you got the time. On top of recounting events there are also things in there that will give you the warm fuzzies we all so desperately seek.

    https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40057487/why-commanders-drafted-jayden-daniels-no-2-overall

In terms of stuff that stood out to me:

-At the scouting combine Peters told a small group of higher ups that it would take "a lot" for it not to be JD. This group included Quinn and Kliff. Looks like the guys that are putting together out O have had a pretty good inkling for quite some time.

-Peters solidified the selection w/ the org in the draft war room b4 they made the pick. Really kept it close to the vest and till the last minute outside of a select few.

-Peters said he never considered trading back, only got one offer.

-After the top 30 visit, JD was telling people he was "Quinn's Guy". Good early indication that Coach n GM are on the same page. Always good.

-JD's demeanor completely changes when he gets to talk about football. Gets excited and locked in.

-They really liked the work ethic stuff. Dragging teamates to 5 am workouts, making LSU change their rules to give him more access

-Peters liked JDs use of VR. Another massive sign that it will continue.

-They love his processing ability and the environment he worked in going against the SEC

-During the private plane ride home after his presser JD spent an hour pretending to go thru plays from our playbook. Real Russell WIlson lunging in the aisle vibes lol.

Well our orignal plan was Darnold so....

Or Darnold's camp threw that out there to link their client to the org w/ the most free agency fun bucks available.

Our interest in Darnold was announced b4 he signed anywhere but we were not privy to a lot of this front office's targets, they were virtually airtight. I find it weird that it would leak that we were in on Darnold.

At least that's what I choose to believe when it comes to this org. I don't wanna see my Front Office go after Sam Darnold.

Something I was thinking about, a lot of our picks are a little older, and the older your draft class is the higher your hit rate needs to be, ideally.

I don't think we should feel any additional pressure to hit just b/c the age range skews higher. Half these guys won't be here, or won't be impactful enough for their age to matter too much. In terms of a teams rookie class as a whole, I think age profile is generally meaningless.

Average NFL lifespan is what, 3 years? Who cares about the age range of your guys if most of them are only gonna be around for their rookie deals... if that. You get your usefulness outta them and they are gone.

If they are mid tier contributors who you want to keep around, your gonna sign them to their 2nd deal, but at that point who cares if the are 25-26 or 28-29, they are just glue guys. Its unlikely they will ascend much further, they are just solid role players.

The only place were age matters are for the guys that become superstars, and demand big money 2nd contracts. These are the players that are difference makers, and impact your team the most. You want youth here so you can squeeze out as many years as possible. Its unlikely that your gonna pull a bunch of these from any one specific class tho.

As @Skinsinparadise has pointed out a lot, if you get 2-3 hits in a class, your killing it. We are not gonna be in a situation where in 4-5 years we gotta resign 7 guys to big money deals but we are hurting on the back end cuz we drafted a bunch of geezers. Its not something we need to worry about... Unless GMAP is football Jesus incarnate or something.

I think it’s reasonable to expect this class to net 4-5 starters.

I'm not sure that is ever "reasonable"... If you get 3 your killing it. If you get 4-5, start trying to extend your GM.

I will say they have put themselves in position for it to happen tho.

A lot of these guys are going to get the opportunity to contribute early, and not after its become a lost season, and without the specter of new management coming in and wanting to acquire their own guys. It seriously unlikely all these guys work out, but at least there gonna get a shot.

JD is self explanatory. All the reps he can eat.

Sinnot has a clear as day 1 year succession plan. He is probably TE1 before the end of year 1.

The league is increasing importance of the slot DB so Mikey can get there. We probably run a lot of Nickel, so we will see plenty of the guy.

Coleman has virtually no long term competition at T. If he can get up to NFL standard, he's running unopposed. I question if he starts the year there tho.

Newton's pathway beyond rotation player is not as clear as the others, but its possible given his talent.

That still leaves room for surprises, in a Curl kinda way. Maybe Luke locks down the slot WR role. It will be hard to get reps over Crowder if he makes himself a gameday mandatory deploy by being our return man again.

Unlike last year, whether its positive or negative, this is gonna be a monster impact rookie class.

    I was thinking TNG's holo-deck. lol

Yeah, that is what everybody thinks b/c its never really explained too well. lol

While a headset, controller and tablet is all you need for base level operation, you can still throw money at it and get that expensive "VR Room" at the facility tho.

Surround-sound n soundproof room to pump in crowd noise

    Some of those VR tredmills

Large screens so multiple people can track the action sans tablet

Short range communication so you can talk to the QB in his helmet

Electric shock devices to punish misques....

Send JD home w/ high end VR headset and boom, full team reps at home.

This tech feels like it will be mandatory in short order.

It takes anybody's ability to study to the next level and it fits right in w/ a generation of avid gamers who gravitate to this kinda stuff anyway.

I'm less concerned about whether we will use this stuff and more interested in Harris buying some stock in this company. Be first in line for every experimental feature and rollout.

Anyway…what’s would you offer SF for Aiyuk…let’s gauge interest….

Still not to interested in shipping out big assets for him.

You'd have to pay him a new big deal, and the niners are reportedly floating they want a 1. No thx. Nowhere close to that.

I'd wait the situation out until Brandon puts the screws to management and forces their hand. I'm thinking he will not show up to offseason stuff. I wouldn't ship out more than a 3rd.

I'm not paying premium prices to both pay a guy, when there is a decent chance he ca hit FA proper in a year and I already have the bait to lure him. Dude looks like he wants to be here.

  12. I don't really see a lot in terms of what this guy is lacking

He is a complete TE +

    -Hes a good reciever

    -Hes a good blocker

    -He plays w/ effort

    then

-He breaks tackles so he can get you some YACs

-He can line up in multiple positions

-Great athleticism w/ the RAS score of 9.49

Clean up the blocking technique and you got yourself a monster.

He is easily our future TE1, just a question of when that happens.

I like him sooooo much better than Turner, who was not a complete TE and didn't even offer enough in the half of the job he did provide. That dude's separation ability was so bad he got tackled before he caught a pass.

  13. I really like that he is 6'2

Need more body type diversity in our WR room. He brings some good size that Terry, Dot and Crowder simply don't.

It was talked about a lot during the draft weekend on TV but I am also a big believer in diverse body type WR rooms.

I was afraid of the pick at first because I was seeing an inordinate amount of body catches (even the 1-handers were body catches) and that scares me when it comes to WRs.

After digging into him some more I saw plenty of hand catches where he attacks the ball tho, and I felt a lot better.

He also has that Terry mindset where he seems to value the ball more than his own safety, and that lets him maintain a catch thru ridiculous contact. He is far more concerned with wrapping two arms around the ball than breaking a fall or bracing for a hit.

Nobody likes the teacher that does not round their grades.

77.5 should be a B- which if we are being honest is basically a B and if you squint hard enough it can pass for an A.
