Fields stinks there is no way Chicago passes up on a Qb.

Agreed. But didn't Williams hint that he doesn't want to go to Chicago? If I'm Chicago, I would trade with us or New England, also trade Fields for multiple picks, and then draft either Maye or Daniels. They could do some serious damage this off-season if played right.

Thinking we should trade Forbes this off season.  I am guessing we only have to give him our 2nd and 3rd round picks for someone to take him off our hands

A 165 lb corner is not worth anything close to a second or third. He will be released. Just not physical enough for the NFL. Truly an awful draft pick and most fans called it on draft night.

  3. I don't think we should trade up for Williams. In my opinion he is not generational. He is on the smaller size and has character concerns (usually where there's smoke, there's fire). But if he slips to #2, take him and don't think twice.

If New England trades up to #1 for Williams, I'd be perfectly happy with Maye or Daniels. Right now I have Maye as #2 QB. Daniels is electrifying, but not a perfect prospect. Average arm, skinny, and tends to hold the ball too long. To me Maye checks all the boxes. Not many 230 lb QBs can scramble the way he does. Maye isn't perfect, but he is only 21 years old. I don't think he's reached his ceiling in terms of strength and size.

If we go Qb rather Williams then Maye.

We could play any of the Qb we are not beating dallas with all that is on the line.

Williams is a odd dude.  He's not someone id grab a beer with.  But this team is lacking blue chip talent, and Williams is about as blue chip as it gets.  I think it has to be Williams.

We broke another players confidence and think it’s funny. I really hope we hire a competent GM.

I don't think it's funny. I'm actually hurting a bit because I'm such a big Howell fan. I feel bad for him. Crappy oline and play calling. Not all his fault.

But the honest truth is that he has struggled anticipating routes. The tipped passes are hurting as well. We now have a shot at a prospect who is bigger, stronger, and faster.

If our new GM thinks one of the QBs within our reach in this draft gives us much more upside then Sam (and at this point, that should be all but assured), then it would be malpractice not to take that QB.  When you pick this high in a QB rich class and you have doubts about the incumbent, YOU PICK THE NEW QB and let them compete.

Howell definitely made it an easy decision. Now we can argue about Maye vs Daniels without the Howell hypotheticals. I highly doubt Williams slips past #1.

It occurs to me that if we wind up at 4, we may have to move up so the Giants etc don’t leapfrog us for a QB.

**** that's a scary thought. I think the top 3 guys are legit prospects (Williams, Maye, Daniels). After that there is a huge drop off to Penix or Nix. We HAVE to find a way to get one of the top 3, especially after Howell completely imploded.

  8. I've been one of Howell's biggest supporters all season. But today I have seen enough. I credit those who called it earlier. And it's not all the sacks or the ints. It's Howell inability to anticipate a route. Howell had some amazing games this year, but also the lowest of the lows.

Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels will be our starting QB in 24. Better years are ahead.

I know you keep saying this but I disagree. If you draft a QB in the top 5 the last thing he needs is last years young starter salivating behind him on the bench. Plus Sam has trade value. Not the crazy first round garbage people were spewing in here a few days ago. But I could see them snagging a conditional 3rd for him that could be a 2nd based on playing time or whatecer. Which is a nice profit from a 5th round pick.

Yep!  I like Howell more than anyone and want him starting here next year.  But you don't draft a top 5 QB to sit behind another young QB.  Veteran, yes, but not Howell.   We don't need another RG3/Cousins situation, that was awful for everyone.  If Howell is not starting he should be traded.  Bring in a veteran who knows the system.

So he is not even good enough to be a backup on the cheap for 2 more years? What if the new shiny QB sucks and you have Sam let go? Not a good look for the GM. Forks and pitches will come out if Sam goes somewhere else and lights it up, which he will, while we continue to suck.

As much as I like Howell, I don't want the new QB to deal with fans screaming for a Howell after a bad game.  A QB taken in the top 5 is a massive investment and requires a minimum 3 years of development before evaluating.  Howell has no chance to play here again.  He should be traded for something salvageable.  Believe me, I want Howell to come out next week and play like Brett Farve but it probably won't happen .  This season has been a complete wash.  At least a real GM will be here in a month.

I know Sam can make all the throws, he has the arm, he has the mobility but does he have the intelligence?

Unfortunately, that's the part that takes seasons to develop.  I'd love to see what he can do next year, but I think what's done is done.  Fifth round picks get no more than one season, near impossible task.  He can maybe start elsewhere, but he is done for in Washington.  Sucks man, I thought we really had something.

If we draft a new QB, don't adequately improve the O-Line because we devoted our best resources to drafting a QB, and then break our QB for the 2nd year in a row because of the not-adequately improved O-Line, what advantage did we get by not punting on QB?

I don't see a new QB playing better than Howell next season.  Howell was as good as a young QB can be behind this awful line.

  13. That one hurt. I've been team Howell all season. Brissett made it obvious how slow Howell is with his reads.

I haven't fully given up on Howell. I've seen how high his ceiling can be, but also how low the floor can be. Right now he's giving off Wentz vibes.

Hopefully today he will learn a little from the veteran. If you're best receiver is one on one, you got to throw it. I'm still giving him the season, but man it's not looking good.

And you have a group who says you have no other choice but to take the QB. You also have a group who want to consider all plays just make the right one.  Young the first pick in the draft looks like a bust and got his coach fired for making that pick. It cost them a lot.

I agree. It would also cost us a lot if Howell gets traded and becomes the next Brees. Howell's first season has been better than most QB's first season. The majority of the fan base has become dead set on taking a QB. I don't even see oline post anymore. There is a higher chance that an unknown college QB will bust in the NFL than Howell because he has already shown he can play in the league. Now if Howell craps the bed the last quarter of the season, that's a different story.

If there's a camp battle and Sam beats out the new QB, the new HC should start him.

Then we completely wasted our top 5 pick. Last thing we need with a million holes on this team is for our top pick to be a bench warmer.  This is why I hope we get a couple a wins and end this QB talk.  It's getting annoying.  The smart thing to do is trade back or take the best tackle in the draft.

  16. This team has a million holes. Why the heck would we take a QB (not really a position of need) and keep Howell? Howell can be traded for a 3rd or 4th. Plus it's going to be a huge distraction all season.

I'm on the trading back for picks bus. Statistically, two of either Williams, Daniels, or Maye will be a bust. This fan base has become absolutely set on taking a QB over that last two weeks. If Howell craps the bed these last 4 games I will be on board. But right now I'm focused on all the other holes and we need picks.

now we know Howells not the guy

Not many people feel that way. Howell has exceeded expectations behind the worst oline in football.

So next year if we draft a QB and he struggles behind the worst oline, are you going to blame the QB or the oline? I have a feeling a lot of the fans will finally start blaming the oline but for some reason Howell gets the blame this year.

We need to fix the oline this draft then look for a QB if Howell still struggles.

Farve was trade because he was a drug addict, someone else will have to speak to if they thought he was better then the person starting before him...i mean in your scenario, we draft a QB with a top 5 pick, Howell beats them out, then we trade that dude for peanuts on the dollar?

I agree. If we draft a qb, Howell needs to be traded during the draft. If Howell wins the "hypothetical" QB competition, then we completely wasted our top 5 pick and lost all value with the rookie QB. Also, I do not want the rookie QB to deal with a controversy while learning how to play pro football. He needs all the reps, plain and simple.

If Howell finishes the season strong it makes zero sense to move on. Trade back for picks and stock this team with young hungry talent. Now if Howell looks like complete **** to finish the year, I'll be on board for a QB.
