  1. Honestly if the FBI is already involved that makes it easier to publish IMO. They already have legs to stand on with regards to the story. It's completely factual to say, "the FBI is investigating the team for X Y and Z." The alternative is that the WaPo publishes a fresh set of accusations straight out of right field and opens itself up to libel lawsuits. That's how the Tim Donaghy story came out- the FBI was already investigating and the NY Post found out.
  2. I'm with you- It sounds like someone trying to say something smart-sounding to stay relevant to a story they have no part in breaking.
  3. Years ago I was an anonymous source for the campus newspaper where I went to school. One thing I learned was that even though I was anonymous, the reporter still kept my contact information so the editor (or someone else internally) could double-check any quote or information the reporter attributed to me just to be sure the reporter wasn't making it up. I have to imagine that if the Daily Illini had those sorts of protocols, then the Washington Post has something slightly better. I can only image the WaPo editors and lawyers are double- and triple- checking every word in the article (when you say Tuesday morning, are you sure it was Tuesday? Are you sure it was in the morning? Can we contact the source to confirm?) and dealing with Snyder's lawyers' threats in realtime. (Oh yeah for the record, the article was about campus drinking culture. I didn't particularly care about getting quoted, but it was 2000-ish and we were just learning the power of google. I didn't want my quote about drinking habits of my fraternity brothers to be forever linked to searches for my name).
  4. seriously. Snyder has money to get good lawyers but he doesn’t have any power to do more than drag it out. Unless the entire league is implicated- then it’s a different ballgame.
  5. Maybe its a Major League situation, where he was paying the refs for us to lose, so he could then move the team due to lack of fan support. Only Charlie Sheen can save us now.
  6. I got it: Dan Snyder lied to Trent Williams about his medical condition so he could secretly remove the tumor and use it to devise an experimental cure for Alex Smith's leg. Unfortunately, he hired a poorly-regulated Chinese lab to do the work and the samples were cross-contaminated with DNA samples from Epstein's victims, which caused a mutation of the common flu that we now know as the deadly COVID-19 strain. Think about it Sheeple.
  7. If true, that's a bigger problem for the league than the team, or for Snyder for that matter. They'll force him to sell but he'll walk away with billions. They'll be repairing the PR damage for years.
  8. Do you think it's a player safety thing? Between the known field conditions at FedEx, the Trent Williams situation and our propensity for guys to get injured way more than other teams, I could see them getting in trouble for pushing doctors to get guys on the field too soon. And I'm sure it happens to some degree in every franchise. The league is still reeling from the concussion coverups.
  9. Agree with this 100% The WaPo literally built its name by taking down the Nixon administration under heavy threat of legal action. There's no way they'd destroy that reputation so their owner can save a few bucks on buying an NFL team. Also, I seriously doubt the NFL owners would block Bezos from buying a team. They'd welcome it. First off, he's independently wealthy, which is no longer the case with Snyder. Second, he runs a media empire (albeit a small one- Amazon Prime)- which is always a good thing. Third, despite all the negative things in the news, he's still considered a 'cool' new money billionaire who isn't too brash. The owners would clear a path for him to buy the team if he was interested, even if there was a conflict of interest.
  10. "We're just waiting for the details" is another way of saying, "I've been regurgitating the same stuff we can all search for on Twitter." It's Barstool Sports.
  11. I thought the 'Lawyers are involved,' tweets were kind of weird. It's a multi-billion dollar company. They'd have lawyers involved for just about anything. I do think the story is going to be a big deal. The fact that team announced a name change on Monday and that's the second most newsworthy team news this week is telling. That said, I think the Twitter hype train has probably taken it to a point where we'll still be underwhelmed when its all out.
  12. That would be entertaining to see him try. The WaPo outed the watergate scandal under heavy threat of legal action from the Nixon administration, and Bezos wealth makes Dan’s look like pocket change. They have the balls and warchest to take on Snyder.
  13. im skeptical of this. The dude that sent the first Epstein-Snyder tweet 6-7 hours ago (There were others earlier but they were clearly joking) was some random guy, who sent another tweet hours later that said, “LOL I love twitter.” There hasn’t been a single verified account that’s mentioned Epstein’s name tied for this. Im not saying it’s untrue but I’m not putting much stock in it given the sources.
  14. This is why I’m not jumping on the “OMG Snyder has to sell!” pre-party at the moment. We don’t know what we’re about to learn, and I definitely won’t be celebrating anything if that’s what comes out.
  15. The NFL world talks. Players and executives regularly move from team to team. He’s a pretty well-respected guy in the league. He had to know what he was walking into.
  16. If dan was forced to sell under normal circumstances, I’d be cracking some beers tomorrow but I have a feeling I’m going to be disgusted when the story hits and not in a mood to celebrate. As for why all these reporters are deferring to WaPo and being vague, I assume it’s one of those “worst kept secrets,” type of situations where they’d all heard the rumors but could never pinpoint the right sources to get the story. They’re standing quiet to avoid a libel lawsuit and because the Post has the facts, sources and legal team to back it all up. On a side note, a girl from my HS graduating class cheered for the team for a while and when the NYT story broke 2 years ago, she posted a long note on Facebook supporting the team— stating how she never felt uncomfortable doing the swimsuit shoots and how it was a 100% positive experience for her. Take it for what it’s worth- A Facebook post.
  17. @TryTheBeal! you’re dead on right. I’ve done a tiny amount of public health work in developing countries in my life, and I’m well-aware that fixing the problems by fixating on specific causes of death is highly counter-productive. Conservatives regularly like to “teach us,” about things that experts live and die with like they’re blowing our minds (e.g.: cracking down on AIDS in Africa in the wrong ways actually increases exposure to other diseases, and the people working this problem are acutely aware of this), but it’s especially infuriating when the numbers aren’t even right. We’ll be paying for this for years in different ways. Sorry just frustrated this evening.
  18. I never claimed you said that. The second part of my post was my personal venting.
