  1. The only handie that I saw that was a flat out terrible miss was the one where the defender stuck his hand out low. That's as blatant as it gets and it was missed. The other couple, from what I remember, weren't nearly as bad and could be argued were simply football plays. Again, from what I remember..could be wrong. Liverpool now joins Chelsea with no europe next year. It provides the opportunity for both to focus solely on the league and get back into good form. As GHH mentioned though, it will be much harder for them to recruit talents to come play. Oh well, hope Roman has his pocket book open..need to offer insane wages.
  2. yikes...had to run out for 20 minutes and two goals scored? What happened?
  3. This Sevilla side is really really bad
  4. Just having some fun at the expense of Arsenal and City. It would be like including, say, wolfsburg to you. I want to be competing for the top prize year in year out. That's CL. EL to me is European hardware, but much like winning the bronze medal. The two champions league finalists get gold and silver. Beating Bayern for the CL was one of the greatest days for me as a supporter of any team. Did not even come close to the same feeling winning EL a year later.
  5. Please do not lump Arsenal and City in with teams like BM barca and real. It makes my brain hurt. carry on.
  6. Courtois has been pure rubbish all season. He is a big baby who wants Euro football...typical mercenary. I think he'll stay, but wouldn't be shocked if he left. Terry is supposedly out but I can't see it happening, and Cahill just isn't very good. He is like Stones, decent on the ball but overrated when it comes to his primary duty: defense. Costa is a decent finisher, but he doesn't get good service often, so he tries to create. Horrid dribller so it works every 1 out of 10 times. Hazard definitely took the season off. Came in overweight and then just muddled about for 90% of the season. When he's on though, he dictates games. Pedro can screw off, terrible signing. Gave effort which is more than I can say for most of the team, but is a squad rotation player only. Rumors are that terry AND lamps will be back with the club in some form next year. Would be terrible as over the hill oldies aren't going to make the squad better. Terry I could see, but please leave Lampard alone unless it's as a coaching role.
  7. That's exactly why I think Chelsea will finish top 4. Desperate to get back into European football. Conte, although not a masterful tactician, is someone with a proven track record for getting a rebuilding team back to the top...and quickly. The trick for Chelsea will be our signings...not many players don't want to play in CL, so we have to offer massive wages. Hazard seems to be getting back to his best which will make a massive difference in our squad. Leicester won the league so I will give Ranieri the benefit of the doubt. They can stay in Europe for now. Like I said though, if either Kante or Mahrez or both go, it's them out Southampton in. Lol, love that everyone has the same thought about Arsenal. "Arsenal will arsenal." Also rumors that Sanchez is out too. Pool has some pretty good talent, and with a loss to Sevilla will be playing for league standings only (I think? I can never get these formats right). That's two pretty dangerous teams with nothing to play for but a league trophy. Either way, next year should be a return to the norm. Top teams playing for top positions. PL will have some of the greatest managers in the game leading the resurgence of the league in general. And on a personal level, I just think next year can't be as disappointing as this one..so I'm optimistic.
  8. Thank God the EPL is over. From a Chelsea perspective it's very forgettable, but it was actually a pretty interesting season. Good on Leicester...the only way this season can end better is if ManU loses. Send them off to Europa League. Way too early look at the future: Tottenham seems to be the team of the next couple seasons as much as I hate to say it. A lot of good youth there and a superb manager. Manchester squads will do their usual...and arsenal will choke their talent away (even in the worst pl season in recent memory). It will be interesting to see what happens to Leicester (do their two studs Mahrez and Kante stay). Southampton is a good little squad but I do believe they completely outplayed their talent to get into European football. Chelsea should be back in top 4 with only the league to focus on and a new manager and tons of cash. And as for you liverpool fans, I think you'll be a contender for another European spot, just not sure which one. Tough bunch to evaluate, because of Sturridge can stay healthy you're a different squad. Get a goalkeeper and a better central midfield and you'll be on the up, Klopp is good as you know. Here's my projection for the top 7 slots: 1. Tottenham 2. Man City 3. Chelsea 4. Pool 5. Arsenal 6. Man U 7. Leicester Wanted to put Southampton instead of Leicester because I think Mahrez AND Kante leave, but couldn't do it just yet.
  9. Well wasn't following premier league back then. I am decently young though, began really following chelsea/premier league in 2002 or so, right before HS. Honestly just did not realize. Oh just having a go at you and DC9. Can't have you two running the soccer thread unopposed. Plus, Chels got a result from the next mighty Europa League champions, that bodes well for our future next season right?? I don't really have the disdain that a lot of Chelsea fans have for most other teams in the premierhship...hell I can find myself even passively rooting for them in European play. The only three I will never, ever support in any match are Spuds, the Wengers, and Manpoo.
  10. His trick was catching the ball with his mouth...and eating it after. Lots and lots of saves, I assume. now I see why you 'pool fans are so stubborn on history all the time! "While 48 clubs have competed since the inception of the Premier League in 1992, only six have won the title: Manchester United (13), Chelsea (4), Arsenal(3), Manchester City (2), Blackburn Rovers (1) and Leicester City (1). The current champions are Leicester City, who won the title in 2015–16."
  11. lol. Understand the enthusiasm...but you just tied the 9th place team in the EPL with a lucky push out from bego in minute 90. Chelsea have plenty of history...we aren't man city. Anyway, you should thank chelsea we probably just upped benteke's transfer fee.
  12. Yes expect a full chelsea side vs full 'pool side. It's the last game worth any meaning to Chelsea all season as Leicester has wrapped up the league. John Terry is a living legend for us, given his all, and been through it all. Most people are disappointed he isn't getting extended because we have no viable replacements yet. Zouma is out with long-term injury, Cahill and Ivanovic aren't cutting it, and friggin Djiaboujdiiejdoludi and some bloke named Hector are out on loan. We going to risk our defenses on young American Miazga? Methinks not. Terry, if nothing else, will provide leadership in a rebuilding year. Didn't know about the walkout, but it's fine by me. Although, not sure the impact it will have at Anfield as opposed to our home contest this weekend. John Terry joins the list of recent legends to play in the PL, joining lampard, gerrard, Ryan Giggs, etc that have left. Players who have shown loyalty and really earned the respect of their fans (and a lot of away fans). Personally feel as though he's over the hill. But bringing him back as a player coach would be ideal situation, and rumors are that it's bound to happen.
  13. and so it begins! Just for that, Hazard to score a brace. I've notified him of his responsibility and he responded with "I'll try if I want to."
  14. Unfortunate behavior from West Ham yesterday. On another note, Up the blues vs 'pool! Most likely gonna get run out, but should allow for some good banter in this thread.
  15. But I thought Bayern didn't poach players? Especially ones from clubs in the Bundes? Anyway, Hummels was the one guaranteed to leave...he's made a big fuss about it. Next out: Auba, Mkhitaryan, and gundogan.
  16. I watch bundes games fairly regularly because I follow Dortmund (to a lesser extent than chelsea). BPL is a grind, workhorse league where you have to show up for every game or you will lose. Bundesliga is not like that. There is one very good team (dortmund) and one absolutely, undeniable elite team (BM). I must say, I think the BPL is a stronger top to bottom league, but at the top it does not compare. BPL does not have any elite teams at the moment. I think both Bayern and Dortmund are better than anyone in the bpl. Dortmund won't last long as Aubameyang, reus, hummels, the lot are all headed for an exit. But I have little doubt that Bayern would finish at the top of the EPL. Top to bottom, EPL is the strongest league in the world. Whether or not that prepares you better for European matches is pretty substantiated with the likes of liverpool and man city this year. Other league teams are surprised when "these crummy epl teams" have a go at them and don't back down...and it's because our league battles week in week out. Bayern and Dortmund can go a month or two without having a contested match.
  17. So I watched most of the game yesterday. Really disappointed with Villareal they just didn't look like a semi-final team. There were really only two upper-echelon teams in the quarter finals, and unfortunately they both played each other (pool/dortmund). Sevilla is currently 7th in bbva, and from what I understand they have two players who are rated worldwide: Konoplyanka and Krychowiak. Different skillsets obviously, but still two class players. Liverpool should be the favorites and I really can't see a scenario where they don't win comfortably. I was also thinking about CL yesterday, and how bbva now has a legit claim that they have the three best teams in the world. To me that is crazy...only one of those three teams abides by FFP (kind of). It's like having the Yankees and the dodgers in the same league competing with the marlins...and somehow the marlins have found ways to win. Maybe not the best analogy, but Simeone has done a great job for that club, whether you like the way they play or not. I will surely be rooting for them to win the CL!
  18. Know next to nothing about the Spaniards you scousers play today. The only two teams I even keep up with outside of CFC would be Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund to a smaller extent. But I have seen some highlights and the kid Bakambu looks like a pretty decent player. Is he their main threat going forward? I would expect pool to win the game but that could be simply because I know very little of villareal.
  19. to be fair I think City has a really talented spine. God knows they paid enough. where they lack talent (for now) is on the wings. For cryin' out loud they have De Bruyne playing LW when he is clearly a better central attacker. Navas is a workhorse who offers pretty much 0 in front of goal...and Sterling is pure potential at the moment. They need a couple filler pieces, but they should be good. Sell Toure to fund a couple defenders and then just ignore FFP and buy some wingers and the squad will be super dangerous.
  20. I will be pulling for city today. Never, ever thought I would say that...but I don't want to see a madrid final. Plus, City is used to the physical battle atleti will play, 5 or 6 teams in the prem use atletic tactics (including the new champions). I also don't much care for Ronaldo, but that's just personal preference. I almost slapped myself when I said I would root for City. I want to reiterate...I hate city.
  21. wow. outside the box, let's see if he can put it away.
