Newton isn’t and won’t  be Sapp either so after that you lost me… it will take time for him to be even as good as Allen or Payne

Spackle for the defects and blemishes in the Sheetrock after you hang it Duh?

But Newton will still be FAR better, and a much more important roster piece in the coming 3-5 years, than the 10th rated OT (someone like Patrick Paul, whose essentially useless older brother Chris we already have on the roster, oh and he was overdrafted too)

Feeling the same here, definitely not a need imho when DL was in all honestly this teams strength and to be honest I know he was probably to good to pass up but at this time this team isn’t good enough to be drafting from a position of that, we needed to address the OL with more then a project in Coleman from TCU after all we got this new shiny toy we took 2nd over all and we need to protect him at all/any cost… the last I saw Newton no matter how great he becomes won’t be available for that ….

Drafting Newton to me is like going to Home Depot needing Sheetrock and spackle along with Paint cause you added a extra bedroom to your basement and only had enough funds to account for that but along the way you saw this beautiful light fixture and knew it would go great in your dining room area so you bought it but buying it you weren’t able to get the spackle you needed to finish the drywall

You would have been a perfect talent evaluator in the Vinny Cerrato / Bruce Allen regimes... the adults in charge of the building now have better ideas, thankfully

I was today years old when I realized Drake Maye is Luke Maye’s brother.

Us Tar Heels on this site (and there seem to be quite a few) have known that for quite a while.  And their dad was Mark Maye, who was the UNC quarterback in the mid-80's who lit it up and likely would have had at least some success in the NFL except for injuries.

Here's what we need to root for:

    - Cardinals win 1 of 4 remaining games (SF, CHI, PHI, SEA)

    - Patriots to win 2 of remaining 4 games (KC, DEN, BUF, NYJ)

    - Jets to win 1 of remaining 5 games (HOU, MIA, WAS, CLE, NE)

    - Titans to win 1 of remaining 5 games (MIA, HOU, SEA, HOU, JAX)

    - Giants to win 1 of remaining 5 games (GB, NO, PHI, LAR, PHI)

    - Bears to win 1 of remaining 5 games (DET, CLE, ARI, ATL, GB)

    - Commanders to lose all 4 remaining games (LAR, NYJ, SF, DAL)

So looking at the above, we want to be rooting for the Patriots to beat Denver and the Jets. We want the Jets to beat the Commanders. We want the Cardinals to beat the Bears, but the Bears beat the Browns or Falcons. THIS is the path the the #2 pick outright.

It would be nice if the Giants beat NO ... but we likely hold a tie-break over them if they lose out and we lose out. Same with Commanders > Titans in tie-break, but would be nice if Titans could upset one of their remaining 5.

This is good work, @JamesMadisonSkins.  Sad that we are already looking at "ways to get the highest draft pick possible" with 5 weeks left in the season, but it is what it is.  But has anyone checked in on @kleese recently?   He's probably holed up somewhere figuring out a scenario where we could win all four games left and still get in the playoffs at 8-9!  :)

Yeah #3 is the sweet spot, but if we could somehow angle into the #2 pick, boy. We could get a ransom of a trade-back and still likely stay in range of Harrison or the Top OT.

I would make clear that #2 was up to the highest bidder, then I was swap #2 and #3 with the Giants, let them draft Maye, and then we either trade #3 back again or take Harrison/Fashanu

Careful what you wish for, JMS, I'm a UNC grad and I've watched every minute of every Howell and Drake game the past 5 years.... and as much as I love Howell, Drake's upside is clearly higher.  I really do NOT want to have to be playing against him twice a year for the next 10 years.

TE has to block. Doesn't need to be a monster, but he has to block. Otherwise you have a bigger tell if its pass or run, than Wylies leg.

The Jordan Reed, Fred Davis types that put zero effort into blocking suck ass.

Couldn't agree more.  "Sleepy" Fred was one of the most infuriating players we've ever had.  And that's saying something

Does anyone know if Theo Johnson TE PSU is coming out this year, because if so, I have a new draft crush.

6'6" 265 4.54 40 soft hands, poor, but willing tackler.

Unless our QB is throwing a crap-ton of picks, is this really an important attribute for a TE ?     I kid, I kid...

If you’re choosing Howell over Caleb I’m sorry but you’re being a homer. Caleb IMO is the 3rd best QB prospect since the Luck class. He has Mahomes level talent. Sam does not.

Let’s live in the real world guys

I don't think anyone is saying that they would choose Howell over Caleb, in a vacuum.  But the reality is that in order to get up to #1 to draft Caleb it will likely require the next three year's #1 picks.  And that will immediately handcuff a new GM/Coaching staff for their first two years.

Oh, I forgot, Jay is going to be on Sheehan's podcast for his weekly visit today.  I'm sure Tweedle Dumb will ask Tweedle Dumber about it.  Actually, I'm sure he won't.  I still fail to grasp why somebody who has zero credibility for football is asked about football.  Guy is like a mini-me version of our Matt Millen, and people still listen to his drek.

Damn, man, tell us how you really feel...  😄
