  1. United and Everton fans go back to twiddling your thumbs. This is for the major players only .....

So Celtic get a reprieve back into the Champions League and as good as a bye into the group stage as surely even they can't F up Maribor. Right decision as much as I dislike Celtic. Rules are rules. And as their fans took a serious battering the other week in Warsaw it saves any potential bloodbath so all things considered glad Wisla screwed up. Plus Glasgow is a short trip and we'd muller them. MEGA tough draw for Arsenal. You DON'T want to be having to go to Istanbul at ANY time. Let alone the start of the year when you aren't back to full fitness and fully in the swing of things. Honestly wouldn't like to call that one. And Bilbao (my dream trip) got a horrid tie in Naples.

    Draw:

    Maribor (Slovenia) v Celtic (Scotland)

    Salzburg (Austria) v Malmo (Sweden)

    AaB (Denmark) v Apoel (Cyprus)

Steaua Bucharest (Romania) v Ludogorets (Bulgaria)

Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia) v BATE Borisov (Belarus)

    Besiktas (Turkey) v Arsenal (England)

Standard Liege (Belgium) v Zenit St Petersburg (Russia)

FC Copenhagen (Denmark) v Bayer Leverkusen (Germany)

    Lille (France) v Porto (Portugal)

Napoli (Italy) v Athletic Bilbao (Spain)

Pots for Group Stage draw as we currently stand. (Schalke and Dortmund would replace Porto and Arsenal in pot 1 if they got knocked out, respectively putting Leverkusen (if they win!) and Olympiakos into pot 2.).

All teams listed in current UEFA coefficient order with an asterisk next to teams in the final qualifying rounds.

    Pot 1.                   Pot 2.                         Pot 3.                      Pot 4.

Real Madrid         Schalke 04                 Bayer Leverkusen*  Anderlecht

Barcelona            Borrusia Dortmund     Olimpiacos              FC Salzburg*

Bayern Munich    Juventus                     CSKA Moscow         AS Roma

    Chelsea               PSG                           Ajax                         Steaua Bucharest*

Benfica                Shaktar Donetsk        Napoli*                     APOEL Nicosia*

Atletico Madrid    FC Basel                    Liverpool                 Celtic*

Arsenal*              Zenit St. Petersburg*  Sporting Lisbon       BATE Borisov*

FC Porto*            Manchester City         Galatasaray            AS Monaco

Remember there's Country protection in the Group Stage so no two teams from the same Country can be in the same group.

Out of that, Id prefer Porto from pot one; Schalke (or Dortmund, But been there enough times) from pot 2 (everything else in there is a hooligan's dream); our friends from Piraeus, Olympiacos from pot 3 and (hopefully) Bilbao from pot four, (Or Salzburg if no Billbao.).

Nightmare group would be Benfica (just boring although Lisbon is just about the cheapest Capital City in Europe)/ ANYONE not called Schalke or Dortmund from Pot 2 (Aggro and Visa nightmare)/ Napoli or Moscow from pot 3 (reason as pot 2)/ Roma or Borisov from pot 4. (Reason as 2 and 3.).

3 weeks today boys at 5PM (12 PM Eastern) we'll know.

Excitement building. It's great to back where we belong.

Be as facetious as you like but London still has a MAJOR draw for foreigners over any other City in England.

Even Utd have struggled at times in the Premiership years when competing against London clubs for players.

    Hail.

The major players are in pot 1. There's a lot of work to be done for United to falter their into pot 3 with Liverpool and what does it tell you that if United were to qualify again this season they'd be ranked higher than Liverpool.

  2. I gotta say I don't like Bayern's tactics with Reus. He said he wouldn't join you so you go out and try to get people to come after his buy out clause to get him away from Dortmund by publicly spewing his contract and such? Basically other you come to us or we're gonna screw Dortmund to get you out of this league. Dortmund's response said it all. Bayern and Dortmund relationship is just cribbed. Bayern has become too greedy and honestly its not to the point they are hurting themselves because they don't want any competition at all. Bayern really deserves a couple of champions league *** kickings for the cheap crap they pull.

The entire Bundesliga is Bayern's feeder club. If Gundogan didn't have a chronic injury he'd be there too.

  3. Howard Webb retires from referring.

England rejoices bar Manchester which is in mourning. Still unconfirmed whether Webb will be retained on Utd's pay roll or released due to no longer having a use to the club.

    Hail.

Don't worry if United have anymore success Ill sure you can find plenty of brand new excises as to why.

  4. When the comment goes, "Don't worry, there's a lot of season left" after a pre-season trophy is lost... I'm not sure where else to go in the world of **** talking.

Classy Heysel reference though. I'm sure the Premeirship since then has been a detriment.

I was trying to point out the last time United didn't play in Europe. Its quite impressive IMO. Once again the rest is strictly in your head.

  5. He needs a dance partner though.

We have to get another legit scorer and it's not Rickey Lambert or Adam Lallana.

I don't know... the shots/goal ratio was pretty good last night.

    You mean it hasn't started?

And we have Europe and you don't?

    Thanks! I was nervous. :P

Not having Europe waa a major detriment to Liverpool's success last year wasn't it. The only difference is the lasttime United didn't have Europe was due to the ban in 1989.

  6. Agreed. The opportunities were there. I think Liverpool will again be amongst the league leaders in creating scoring chances. I also think Sturridge would have scored on one or two of those chances. To me, that was the difference in the match. Liverpool wasted their opportunities while Man United made the most of theirs.

I think a certain dutchman would have made an equal if not greater difference on the other side.

  7. I'm not sure what's up with Reus.  I don't know if he hasn't decided whether he thinks Dortmund can rebuild from losing so much or if he truly wants out.  Amazing Isco might be on his way out that quick but I guess that shows the faith in James Rodriguez.  Closest thing to a game changing player lately has been RVP but that was one year and there's no guarantee he gets back to that level even if he did well at the world cup.

A little background on your new club they buy players to sell shirts. If you want an explanation as to why such a big club wins trophies so infrequently there's your answer. What are we looking at here a decade gap between Champions League wins and a title taken off of Barca once every few seasons with hundreds of millions spent on players every season? That's not a coincidence.

  8. Scheduled for 1:00 AM BST, so 8:00 PM EST. I would imagine NBC has it again but not being Stateside best not take that as gospel and double check beforehand.

Luckily (or not dependent on your POV) Agger is missing or else we wouldn't know if he played well even if he did with that ****er doing a recap!:lol:

It's a tough one as it's still ostensibly pre-season and matters little in the great scheme of things.

That said, being as we're only a fortnight out from the big kick-off you'd think both managers would now be nailing down their starting XI's for opening day at this stage with only two friendly's left so it will be disappointing to say the least if both go with weakened sides. And that's not even starting on the rivalry aspect that means SO much to the fans regardless of the nature of the game .....

Two City's 30 miles apart but a MILLION miles apart in the way we talk, dress, our musical tastes, the whole gambit. When the two biggest, most successful teams in England meet, it really is an occasion when the football is secondary to everything else in many respects and sadly that all manifests itself at and around the match with some of the ugliest, vilest behaviour from both sets of supporters imaginable.

There really is NO bigger rivalry/ hatred in World sport. City's like Buenos Aires and Glasgow might well be up there, but there's NOTHING beats a Liverpool/ Utd game in that respect.

This may only be a pre-season friendly, but the chance to get one over the team from the other end of the East Lancs Rd. before the seasons even begun is immense.

Still throwing around calling in sick. And it's only a pre-season friendly. Go figure?

    Hail.

There are about 6-7 players that should be nailed on as starters but I can see why LVG would want to make sure his evaluation process is thorough before he adds more players. I think the back three should get close to 90 minutes and maybe get Fletcher in there to continue to try to get him close to his pre-virus form but other rhan that why not throw some kids and rotation players in there.

  9. So Van Gaal is (paying lip service no doubt) saying that there may be no more signings and he's satisfied with what he's seen from (the garbage for modern day Utd) that he inherited.

I wonder if truth be told just how many players they've approached this summer to be turned down due to no Champions League football?

And it gets worse the longer you miss.

    Happy days.  :D .

    Hail.

It's hard to approach the season with the same unbridled optimisim as say a club that lost their best player by a wide margin but hey, I like what I've seen so far and last time I checked David Moyes was replaced by one of the best managers of this generation who didn't seem to be bothered by the lack of CL football for the first time in practically two decades. Hang on to those happy days while they last.

  10. Ive read a lot of Saints fans rate Chambers higher than Shaw.

Shaw's advantage is that left back is a more premium position than right back. I just dont want Chambers to get Phil Jones'd. He needs to master one position.

Potential are you kidding Chambers is already the best right back in the world.

  11. RR,

I've always found Valencia a very easy team to root for. Back in the day I uaed to watch all their games providing they didn't overlap with a United game. Inter were also fun to cheer for before the calcio scandal. Not sure I'd go so far as to call them second teams as I'd rather slit my own throat than even entertain the idea of rooting for another club when they play United or their winning is against United interest. I suppose my heart isn't big enough to love more than one club.

  12. So I was thinking the whole situation over and I wanted to run this idea by. So I've been thinking three clubs plus DCU and local kickers is a lot to juggle. Giving even attention I mean. So I'm thinking about going to two clubs. Man Utd will be one because I've been with them forever. Now I don't simply want to go one of the other two gets kicked. I think it's fair to open this up and throw the two in the pot with others. Then determine a second club in the coming months. What do you guys think? (Barca pulling it's crap lately makes me think this review needs to happen too)

You will feel liberated now that you've dropped this United/Barca nonsense. Needless to say you made the right choice.

  13. Easy to stand out in a meaningless friendly when you've all the time in the World on the ball. He's a tidy player but certainly never stood out in Bilbao to the tune of £ 30 million.

We shall see once the proper stuff starts in August.

    Hail.

We overpayed for him but it's absolute nonsense to say he never stood out at Bilbao.

  14. Bilbao really is a wondrous club given the miniscule area they pick their talent from and the fantastic, International class players they continually produce. Got to admire the fact they've never strayed from their Basque only roots. To be the only team along with Barca and Real to never of been relegated is an incredible testimony to Basque spirit.

Pissed off they'll likely be in our pot for the European draw as if they qualify, as a fan, Bilbao is the best trip in Europe this year bar none.

    Hail.

    Agree 100%

I have no idea how they do it but it's borderline miraculous to operate the way they do and be succesfull this day and age. Great club who I think are admired by everyone outside of Sociadad. Bloody tough to get players out of there but who knows how many more gems they have hidden up there.

  15. Here's a name out of left field I'd suggest to Liverpool but also hope he never plays there:

Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim. Very early shades of a similar game to the Uruguayan loony toon.
