I think you underestimate how difficult it is to just toss that pass away. Between the risk of an accidental lateral, your hand being hit pre-release and not knowing if your lame duck throw is near a defending player sometimes taking a sack is the absolute right thing to do.

I think the risk of fumbling or throwing backwards wasn’t worth the risk. There were only 15 seconds left at midfield. He was being cautious.
