Some questions answered here. He definitely can be a swing tackle.

    More past experience/personal:

Everyone needs to watch the Inside Scoop video. He was a the anchor at Left tackle in 2022. He was only moved inside due to major upheaval along the line afterthe very successful 2022 sewason. Lot's of guys signed to the NFL leaving holes. He was NOT moved there due to poor performance and in the end he was moved back to Tackle.

People still saying the team didn ot address the Oline are really sleeping on this pick.

Also, I was listening to Jim Miller and Pat Kerwin - who I really respect so if others feel differently feel free to stop reading 🙂 - Pat Kerwin was making the point that with a rookie QB you do NOT want a bunch of rookies on the Oline. You want veterans who have been there and can help the rookie out, even if they may not be Probowl players. Then the following season you bring in young guys to make upgrades. But that first season you really want seasoned veterans.

There are of course no gaurantees. And maybe they could have drafted more big guys. But I think they are not done yet, waitnig for some later CAP or and camp casualties. I also look at where they picked and at each spot you look and say where is the Olineman that is better than who they picked. And before people say Mike S, that guy could end up being the best player from this draft. He is an absolute beast of a player, smart, athletic. His only issue is being slightly undersized. But I remember a MLB for us that was undersized who should be in the HOF in London Fletcher. I know it's different positions, but same concept.

Time will tell but I am less concerned than I was the day they drafted him. I think he is going to surprise people.

Yes and you see it throughout. Not to make it political but one thing the republicans kind of have right (emphasis on kind of, because ok the surface they have a valid point, but where they go with it from there gets messy and politically charged) is the inherent flaws in science and how it relates to things like climate change - you have the exact potential problem you’re outlining with cancer there. Again - on the surface they have a point worth considering, is all I’m saying. So the notion of paying people to find a problem produces people finding problems that suggest you need to pay them more to continue looking for/at the problems - is something that should always be part of the evaluation.

The art of practicing science is not without potential flaws and that’s probably one of the bigger ones.

I call this doing the right thing for the wrong reason. They have a point to be made but thier motivation comes from a self serving place not a sincere intent to help. But still, cannot ignore the valid point to be made.

Agree you can't just throw endless monies at something. On the other hand you hate to miss a solution because you didn't want to spend a few more dollars.

  3. So here is the Arizona draft. Despite the overall -109 plus minus, I am still very happy with this draft. I was able to trade down from 1 then back up to 9 and still get one of the top WRs in Malik Nabers. Some had Malik thier #1 and many more had them 1a (MHJ) and 1b. I do believe in the long run MHJ is slightly better, I also believe Malik Nabers and Chop Robinson are > MHJ. After Chop there was a pretty big drop off for edge except maybe Darious Robinson. Very happy to get Chop at a position of need. Arizona had all of 9.5 sacks for thier edge and that's 6 from Dennis Gardeck who is very inconsistent. This is a huge upgrade. Arizona thought the same as they took Darious Robinson in the 1st. Chop was already off the board. I think they reached with Darious but it is what it is.

Jackson Power-Johnson is the best pure C in the draft and I had my 2 top priorities covered allready. He is a plug and play guy at C for a decade or more. The current starter is Hjalte Froholdt and he is only signed through 2024. He had 8 penalties and allowed 3 sacks from the C postion! This is his 3rd team.

Then we got Mike Sainristil! Love this guy! Enough has been said in the draft thread but this guy could really become a special player for our team. I am very excited I got him for AZ and then the Commanders picked him.

Arizona was in depsperate need of secondary help so I went DB again with Demerson. Arizona did too although they were able to get him later than I took him. The rest were mostly BPA for me - which shows how out of sync I am with the NFL LOL  I was about a half to a full rd early with many picks. But I am OK with that. I do like Jordan Davis as a developmental QB. Yuck! The Jets liked him enough to trade upo for him as the long term Rodgers replacement..???  Season ending injury had him fall some. Still was never going to be a top prospect. Here is the right place for hm. But if he can learn from Aaron and keep healthy he might just surprise. Need to have some more depth. Need someone behind Desmond Ridder. He is aweful to be honest. He was with Atlanta last year. Saw a lot of him.

Will Shipley would start as a KR, maybe also a PR or at least in the mix. His athletisism was an 85. Very athletic guy. Will need to work on translating his game to the NFL in terms of maintaining vision and being more calculated in his cuts. Is not a pound and ground guy though. Likely not a 3 down back but you never know. He has good hands and can run.

The only player for either team not picked was Keaton Bills, who ironically was signed by the Buffalo Bills as a URFA 🙂  How appropriate! I got him for a ham sandwitch as the Chargers were tired of picking LOL  We will see what happens to him.

As compared to the real Cardinals:

    ES Draft - 2 WR, 3 Secondary, 3 IOL, 1 Edge, 1 QB and 1 RB

    NFl Cardinals: 2 WR, 4 Secondary, 1 IOL, 1 OT, 2 Edge, 1 RB

Pretty close in terms of positons.

iAs always everyone, this was so much fun!!  Thanks for everyone who particpated! Great group as always!!

Personally I think it’s very obvious we wanted Sainristil in the second round, and that influenced the trade back. And yep we can have been that sold on DeJean at the same time.

I think what's clear is they didn't have the same grade on Cooper as others. I know a lot of people liked him but it's clear this regime does thier due dilligence and they didn't value him as much. It may have been a cultural fit.

AP has a clear vision of the type of players he wants and while we may see Copper as fitting that profile he and the rest did not so they were not only willing to pass on him but willing to make a trade with a division rival to let them have him. Clearly they could be wrong. But I am willing to give them the benifit of the doubt.

There is a long list of man crushes from fans that turned out to have something wrong with them we did not know.

3 of our top 6 picks on day 1 and day 2 were offense including the most valuable draft capital we had. It doesn't really matter that a couple of 5th rounders and a 7th were on the defensive side of the ball as day 3 picks miss the vast majority of the time. We were unlikely to get offensive help there anyway.

I'm not happy either, in some ways, I don't love what we did with Philly in the trade, and I don't love the Sinnott pick at 53 or the McCaffrey pick at 100, and I hope they weren't trying to fix a defense I was told a few months ago when I projected a crap '24 season, was actually good in '22, and maybe not the disaster it looked because well, its ron's fault or whatever, but anyway....the reality is, this team is and was a mess at DB, LB, Edge, OL, WR, RB, TE and QB. You can't fix it all in one draft or one offseason. I'm alarmed they didn't do more for the OL either, but nobody was terribly interested in trading down to our slot, and we ended up with an OL in Coleman that's both versatile, and considered by the NFL.Com dude and Brugler to be of the same tier as Paul, Rosegarten, and the guy with the long hard to spell name....

Im very torn, part of me feels like you do, but part of me gets it, and just views what happened as a situation in which he took advantage of the talent that fell to him. My one major gripe is that they didn't turn 5 day 2 picks into any 2025 draft capital at all and we aren't getting compensatories either after the free agency palozza we just had. I'm bummed we didnt spin some golden loom for next year...we should have. Maybe we end up trading some vets for picks before the dealine again, but we don't have many anyone would want.

A little confused here. In one spot you say we are a disaster at virtually every position and then say we should have used this years picks to get more next year picks. As I watched the draft unfold for us, it was clear they have a board and they stuck to it. They let the draft come to them and didn't force it based on needs. They clearly have a plan at Tackle. They are not stupid (not accusing you of calling them stupid, just making a point). They know they need Oline. It was clear they wanted to jump back into the 1st but since they didn't we have to assume the price was too high. Good, you can't panic. I am most impressed with that. Past regimes have panicked, either self induced or because snyder was breathing down thier necks with really bad instructions.

I like this draft overall. Yes, would liked a get really good fat guy on day 1 or early day 2 but they got very good talent with the guys they picked. High quality charecter also. I expect they will sign a FA tackle or two for camp., Could still be some CAP decisions to be made by other teams. Never know. They will not be the long term solution but can be a good bridge to next years draft.

  6. @Whiskeypeet -

I belive the Micheal Penix pick was jsut horrible. Here is why:

You just signed Kirk Cousins who you have to keep at least 2 if not 3 years due to the $100M gaurantee. Penix then has to sit (barring injury of course) for at least 2 yrs if not 3 yrs. Either way you have very little time to decide if he is the guy and to exercise the 5th yr option. You are likely doing that as a hope not with the kind of confidence you should

In the meantime, you used the best resource you had at QB of the future maybe, when you needed to provide your team with immediate help either at Edge (my thoughts) or even a WR.  Any DLine would be good since they are switching form a 4-3 to 3-4. Thier front 7 was bad last year and they had a great chance ot make it better - Take Dallas Turner or Jared Verse or trade down and stockpile picks. You could do that and still likely get Penix later in the 1st rd.

#8 was way too early and not the best use of that high a draft pick. Maybe, just maybe he turns out to be a great franchise QB. But he already has an injury history, and will be at least 26 if not 27 when he gets the starting job.

If they thought yhey were going QB in the 1st rd then don't sign Kirk COusins at all. And if you want him to sit, get Jacoby Brissett or another decent back-up as a bridge to Penix. Then you are putting yourslef in CAP hell.

relaly bad decision I believe. Relaly just no excuse.

  7. Here is Atlanta: Total delta of 27. Not much difference overall but huge swings player to player. Roman Wilson dropped 41 spots while Kris Abrams-Draine dropped a huge 71 spots. However, I got Caedann Wallace 75 later and Layden Robinson 84 spots later. Overall not too bad.

    Positions taken (good idea @Epochalypse)

    Me - 2 WRs, 2 DL, 1 Edge, 1 CB, 2 WRs, 2 interior OL

NFL - 3 DL, 1 Edge, 1 LB, 1RB, 1 QB (stupid pick! Sorry but that was just dumb!) - Not sure why they didnt get any WRs for Kirk. After Drake London and Kyle Pitts there is not much there. I know they signed a few guys. But none of them have more than 400 yds ever in their career. I think Roman WIlson can be very good. Be that really solid #2 getting London open more. And they needed help in the secondary. Makes sense them going front 7 heavy, but 4 of 7? I took 3 of 8 and thought that was alot. The Penix pick and 4 front 7 players overall meant they had no resources to get anything else. And RB? Last thing they really needed was a RB unless he is expected to be P/K returner, which is possible. Then they traded 79 and 43 to get to 35 and take Ruke who I took at 79. Not a great draft for them. I of course like mine better - LOL  But I am sure I am wrong... 🙂

And with Michael Pratt, all my picks were drafted. I'll have to dig in but I know SF did take Mustapha at safety, which I drafted for them.

I had all but one guy drafted - Keaton Bills @253. Not sweating that one. I also picked one player the team did for each team. .

NFL Atlanta Falcons and I both both took Ruke Orhorhoro - Clemson DT - I got him at rd 3 overall Pick 79, They took him rd 2 overall 35. I feel real good about that one.

NFL Arizona Cardinals and I both selected Dadrion Taylor-Demerson Texas Tech DB. I took him at rd 3 overall 66, They got him at rd 4 overall 104. I took him quite a bit earlier but still we both took the same player.

I will be checking the differences but at first glance I feel good about both teams drafts. Atlanta taking Penix at #8 was a mess. But I still think I did the better thing in taking Dallas Turner. I guess time will tell.

I picked Xavier Leggett going to the Carolina Panthers at pick #33 then they trade up to #32 and the Panthers selected Xavier Leggett.

Close but not exact. There were a couple of close ones but I was looking for exact matches. Great pick though. You didn't have to trade up to get your guy .I think they probably did it to get the 5th yr option.

  10. Not sure if anyone else is tracking all picks - These are based on the end of the 6th rd.

In the 6th rd, the NFL picked about 50% players that were not selected in our draft. That is the most I can remember this early.

There is still one 2nd rd pick left - Beau Brade Buffalo Bills - sorry @mcterry  Hopefully he goes soon.

There are still 6 4th rd picks - no 3rd left though

Exact Selctions made - This is the exact player i nthe same spot in th draft only   There were many picks of same players but different spots like Minn getting JJ McCarthy at #4 in our draft vs #10 in the NFl draft

Bears picked Caleb WIlliams with #1 pick - no kudos for this one, sorry, That's more a Duh!  🙂

The only other one I could find was in the 5th rd at overall pick #169 both the NFL and ES Mock Green Bay Packers selcted Kitan Oladapo DB out of Oregon State - That is very well done! To nail a player this late in th draft at the exact draft position is very rare. Well done @PokerPacker!!

If I missed one my spologies. Please post it.

Kirk is old.  Pennix can take his time learning from a veteran rather than getting thrown into the fire.

Ok, then why take Cousins at all? And at that salary? Why not just know you are drafting for the future and keep all that CAP? Get Kirk some help like Rome O or the defense which sorely needs help - That's why I drafted Dallas Turner for them.

Also Penix is not young. And with him sitting at least 2 yrs, he will be 26 or if 3 27 befroe he becomes a starter. And they will have two maybe only one yr to see if they want to take his 5th yr option then they go right back to t paying big money for a QB. Again, why not forget about Kirk, draft Penix then use the exta CAP to build a team then be able to sign him when it's time.

Sorry, this just makes no sense to me at all.

Seahawks fans seemed not to know if to be excited or sad for the pick Seattle made. :ols:

They should be estatic. Murphy is the best interior lineman in the draft. I believe Turner is the best Edge and really fits the Falcons D. Latu is no slouch but I had Turner just ahead of him. Makes sense they went within 3 picks of each other.

So confused with Atl taking QB. Fans must be crazty with WTF!

  13. Ok I am so confused by the Penix pick by Atlanta. I weould never have thoguht they would go QB with jsut signing KIrk. They need so much help on D and they picked a QB that will sit at least 2 yrs barring injury. Wow, just wow did I get that wrong!

Love the Paulaner!!  One of my favorite beers when in Germany. That and the rest are all great selcetions!  Well done getting properly prepared for this awesome ride!

  15. The trade back up for Paul appears in a few random mock drafts. I put no stock in those. I do agree that would not be the best move but again these are just random last minute mock drafts. Paul does seem to be rising on people boards though. Not sure why. There is always a player or two that start rising a couple days before the draft and for little to no reason. All of a sudden all the work and research done is thrown out the window for a last minute man crush.

Just a few more hours!  I have not been this excited about the draft i na long time. In recent years I looked forward to it, but also was armed with the knowledge that whatever brain trust was in charge, the stink of owner past would **** it all up. But with this new regime we not only have competent people in the FO, the owner is not a complete nutcare POS.

Maybe I disagree with who they take but at least I know they will have done thier due dilligence, and have poured over every bit of information available before coming to a team decision.

And Daniels was also padding stats against Grambling, Georgia State, and Army.

Comments like this are interesting. Here are Daniels stat lines for those 3 games:

Grambling - Score 72 - 10 - Daniels - 18-24 for 269 yds - 5TDs 0 int  The team ran for 302 yds - he had 29 yds on 5 carries. Daniels did not finish the game.  Stat padding? Not in my opnion

Army - Score 62 - 0 - Daniels 11-15 for 279 tds and 3TDs He also rushed for 6 yds on 5 carries. Daniels did not finish the game. Stat padding? Not from my view.

Georgia State - Score 56 - 14 - Daniels - 25-30  for 413 yds and 6 TDs He did rush for 96 yds on 10 carries. This is the only game where you could maybe say stat padding - but he only threw 30 times.

Not directed at jsut you - I get the legitimate concerns about Daniels. He is not the prototyipical body you would like, especially for a running QB. But some of the statements made as facts have gotten out of hand. Like the several times people have insisted Daniels played at 180 to 190. Do you not realize how much different that weight looks like on an young athlete? I thought it was just hyperbole but several have repeated it over and over agian like it's fact in thier mind.  It's NOT! LOL  That is a seriously ridiculous statment to make. There seems to be a lot PTSD from RGIII. And honestly that's fair. But let's not make stuff up. He said he played at 205 and that passes the eye test.

At this point I don't care which QB they select. There are enough positives and red flags for all 3 reasonable options that it's just up to the team what kind of offence they want to run and who they think will be fit that offence. Keep in mind, while we have an idea, we don't really know what kind of off Kliff wants to run here.

Tomorrow evening cannot get here soon enough!

  20. Fun little exercise here from JP Finley.  I post this purely for entertainment. Not maknig any statement. It's two guys messing around. That's literally all it's worth. But again thoguht it was entertaining, especailly sicne they go past #2.

I will say, as they both did, I would be really surprised if the team doesn't move back into the 1st rd for a OT. But you never know.

  21.

A pretty reasoned take on the all QBs visiting at once and Top Golf thing. Not the biggest Criag Hoffman fan but he makes some good points here. Also, I am not sure why people completly ignore several key facts:

    1. Bill B. and other HCs/GMs/ FO personel have said this approach is not new. While it's not done by all teams all the time it has been used by teams before. He said in NE they used to bring in a bunch of players at once.

    2. Adam Peters made it clear while they had the group time, they also made sure each player had alone time with coaches. So the idea they had no time to meet wit the players individually is just not true.

Anyway, it's a more rational take than some.
