Um, we need to draft other priorities... like Defensive End?

I am not advocating drafting a QB high, it's the opposite. I'm just saying there's yet another potentially huge reason not to, for anyone who says that we should : the availability of one that is worthy of the pick, based on this draft class' quality, and the unknown factor of who does, and does not, fall to us.

And I definitely don't see us trading up for any of those QB's.

I'm taking a LB and a CB with the highest picks.

I wonder if winning a playoff game would be enough for people to consider hinike an option starter going foward, waiting till the 3-5th round to take a qb?

also, I see us splitting the rest of the season and missing the playoffs

Even if we wanted to draft a QB high in the draft, also remember the flip side is there has to be a QB that is worthy of that high of a pick, when our turn comes around.

And with next year's crop of QB's not looking too hot, it's looking like a real possibility there won't be a "worthy" one there when we pick high in the draft.

Speaking of which, it’s interesting to think back to the negatives that have been associated with TH and how things have evolved.

    He’s injury prone

He's about to start 10 games in a row, and without any injury.

Last time that happened was 3 years ago, with Alex Smith just barely accompiishing that, before his gruesome injury.

There's a good chance he goes beyond the 10 game streak, and we'd have to go back to Kirk, to find the last QB who started 11 in a row.

He seems to be knocking things off that list, one by one.

I mean they are only a game back of the 7 seed in the NFC. Literally everyone can still make the playoffs except the Lions lolol.

It just sounds crazy, because it wasn't very long ago that most people believed it was impossible for us to make the playoffs this year, and yet we're ahead of them, and they're still "in the hunt". I know it's mainly in a mathematical sense, but it's hard to believe people are even talking about them in that sense. Especially when they've been the brunt of so many jokes until now.

Anyhow, my main point was about the parity. And it seems there's more of that now, than ever before.

So, a win tomorrow ties us at 2nd place, and 2 games behind first place, with 2 games against Dallas to cover that difference :)

    Actually, its better than that.

We'll be in sole possession of 2nd place, with Philly having played an additional game, and lost it

We'd be 5-6, and they would be 5-7

How bad can Rudolph be, that he hasn't already taken the starting job by now ?

The difference between the Packers and Rams is that because the Packers are a team that builds through the draft, they have really good depth and can sustain injuries.

Football is a game of attrition.

And we're doing it a sensible way. Young players, and cheap contracts.

He’s really fallen off from his peak hasn’t he.

And I was just wondering, who has he actually "developed" as an individual player ?

It seems like it's all acquisitions of established players or supposed studs, from day one.

I don't follow them closely, so maybe I missed someone.

He may fall into the ranks of the "great coordinator, but not so great head coaches"

In the beginning, there was Joe Jackson Gibbs.  Then came coaches like Marty 😛

Gibbs was a master at power and play action.  He was also versatile enough to spread you out and use the pass game as a running game.  The bunch (3 receivers in a V) began with him - see the fun bunch.

I've been trying to make a case for a while that I thought Heinicke is the perfect Play action QB.  Imagine him paired with the Shanahan zone stretch.  The problem early on was that Turner wouldn't commit to it.  His dad had that problem.  That doesn't mean that you just keep running on 1st down.  I hated when Gruden did that.  Pound draw was the first play almost every time.  Usually ended up with a loss of yardage.  So, commiting to the run means you may throw on first and 10 but run on 2nd and 10.  Be unpredictable but make sure that your calls are at least 55% run and 45% pass.

This team reminds me of a Gibbs team - in small, subtle ways.

It's not stacked with stars or studs. We do have a couple of those. However, it's filled with, and relies heavily on, a group of average-type guys who know their job and do it, and gel together, and to some degree, overachieve. Well-coached, and good at the all-important fundamentals.

One of the reflections of this is, week after week, you see "average" guys like Humphries or Bates, making game-saving or huge clutch plays. It's not necessarily exclusively relying on one star player.

Yes, we get a lot of McLaurin and he's a huge part of it. Then again, Gibbs had his Monk. And like Gibbs' teams, you see guys who are "unremarkable" on an individual level, looking much bigger and better than they really are, because Coach knows how to use them, and Coach emphasizes discipline and things like that.

I'm not saying Rivera is on Gibbs' level. Just that he does a good job, utilizing Gibbs' principles.

And again, I'm not discounting the huge impact McLaurin has on this team. Just that we have a collective group outside of him that are individually unspectacular, but do a great job of making things happen.
