  1. In Florida, it is illegal to carry a gun on premises of a place to sells alcohol for consumption on premises. So I can carry in the liquir store. Bars are not allowed though. What sucks is I technically can't carry if I go to Applebee's for dinner (not drinking) because there is a bar in there.
  2. And we get so hung up on buying guns but a speedy trial may have you sitting in jail for a year awaiting trial....Glad we have our prorities.
  3. I wouldn't be surprised if I have a 1000 rounds at my house right now. I pick up a box of 100 here and there when it's on sale. I haven't been to the range in a while so I'm sure it has piled up. But when I go to the range I would say it isn't hard to go through 500 rounds if I go with a group of friends.
  4. Well it started when I complained about the media screwing it up. I expect them to actually be accurate. Then I couldn't put the toothpaste back in the tube.
  5. I'm thinking about starting the "clip vs magazine" discussion next. Who's excited?
  6. Sorry I don't consider 20+ years as recent.
  7. Well I'm 34. I would say ever since I can remember guns being a part of my life which would mean at least 20 years. Maybe you aren't as involved in the gun world so you just weren't aware? Think of it like a bunch of baseball fans using the term holding instead of pass interference. Is it possible you just didn't know any better?
  8. Larry is there a reason you are just flat ignoring the several of us that have pointed out to you what the definition is in the recent time?
  9. Right. And fag still means cigarette. Definitions change with time. In the gun world, automatic weapon has meant one thing for a long time.
  10. Thanks! I'm really bad with names. I knew I had heard it but couldn't place it. As soon as I hit search and his face popped up, I knew who it was.
  11. In general, yes. Not sure exactly about the timeline though. But even still, new guns really depend on your tools available and machining skills. With a little knowledge and about a grand in tools, it's still doable. Well an AR is a rifle and skeet is usually done with a shotgun so there's that. The functional benefit to an AR style is mainly the modular design. It is much easier to change, repair, and upgrade parts. Plus you can add neat little flashlights and freakin' lasers!
  12. #1) Yes I thought about how it would effect my purchase ability. It sure wasn't my first thought. Does that count? #2) Nope. Have said time and time again I hate the NRA. #3) I had to google who that was. I have seen him speak. I think he has made some solid points. I also think he has said some bat **** crazy things. But he isn't someone I would enjoy spending a lot of time with. I consider myself gun informed and a patriot. How'd I do?
  13. I was assuming he meant the second part and just didn't know exactly. I was going to let it go since I already made my point about terminology. Some guns are extremely easy to go from semi to full auto. Some I can do in 10 minutes with a screw driver and a file. Many are harder.
  14. Thanks! It is pretty easy to make some semi's into full auto. What is even worse is the fact I can find instructional videos on youtube. And they can't be taken down because they are "free speech". I have a major issue with that and I'm surprised more don't. I don't think that should fall under the 1st amendment. I enjoy an informed discussion. I'm am certainly open to gun reform. Wasn't it you that just yesterday I was able to come to an agreement with in like 10 minutes. Then I went on ****ing about why can't politicians compromise like we just did? Could have been someone else I was talking to. That's why I don't like being labeled a gun nut. To me, they are the ones thinking everyone should be allowed to carry a missile launcher through airport security.
  15. Well I don't consider myself a gun nut. Do you consider me a gun nut? And what criteria is needed to be a gun nut? I consider my self gun informed.
  16. Basically that is what it means. It refers to a weapon capable of firing more than one projectile with only one pull of the trigger (commonly thought of as "machine guns"). These are what the military primarily uses. These weapons ARE banned from the general public. They require a higher level FFL. As stated above, they require a prostate exam from the ATF and a crap load of money to obtain and maintain. I don't know of a single mass shooting where automatic weapons were used. What is used is a semi-automatic weapon. Every pull of the trigger fires ONE projectile. Now you can fire as fast as your little finger can pull. The majority of pistols (other than revolvers) fall into this category. So do a large portion of hunting shotguns and rifles. I can show you a "hunting rifle" (wood stock) and an "assault rifle" "not wood stock" that most people will say one should be banned but not the other. Thing is, they do almost the exact same thing. Just one look appeals to one group and the other to another group. Long story short, the people saying ban automatic weapons are stupid. There already is a ban on them. And rarely do you hear of one being used. EDIT: This is why the assault weapon ban is commonly referred to as the Scary Looking Weapon Ban.
  17. Do the people throwing around the term "automatic weapon" even know what that means? I really don't think so.
  18. Fergasun.........out of curiosity do you think that since you don't want a gun others shouldn't have them? Is your morals and opinions okay to be pushed on others who don't agree? I'm not even sure where I stand on that. I get upset when my party trials to push their moral objection to abortion onto others. So should I be upset when someone tries to push their moral objection to guns on to me? Honest questions that I don't even know what my answer is.
  19. I agree with most of what you said. I too am a "I'm a gun enthusiast that is against he NRA". I have no problem if getting a gun takes longer, though I would say the max should be 10 days. I just want some limit so the government can't decide to treat guns like marijuana stamps used to be. I am against an assault weapon ban at least like it used to be. Mostly because it was really a "scary looking weapon" ban but in by people that don't know enough. I think magazine limits are probably the best way to go right now. And the government fixing their background check system. EDIT: Magazine limits as long as you can get around them with a much stricter background check. Much like an FFL and getting a SBR, though that process has become quite cumbersome also.
  20. I don't have my FFL so I don't know to much about it. I don't have a need for it. I have a friend that has his though. He has to reapply and get looked at every 5 years if I remember correctly. He said it is worse than a prostate exam. I live in Florida and have my CCW. Yes there is no open carry without a license and good luck getting an open carry license here. They have tried to pass open carry here a few times and it keeps getting shot down (pardon the pun). As far as our CCW laws, I believe "work" is very limited like pretty much you have to own the business and be the only one there. And the traveling part isn't one I would recommend trying with a cop. I do know one big argument here is that the way the gun laws are written, they are very open to interpretation. And it's really up to the cop to interpret. And the judge will always side with the cop no matter how screwed up his interpretation is.
  21. There's also the fact that things still happen in California with their stringent gun laws. And it happened in a gun free zone. Or you can look at Chicago with their gun laws vs gun violence. Not saying that means we shouldn't do anything, but some of these things people want to try, have been shown to not be so effective. But we can't talk about that......
  22. Reminds me of something I heard a while ago. Don't remember where and I'm parapharasing but it was essentially "Security, privacy, Freedom: You can only have two. It's up to society to determine which two". I wonder if we are at that point. And how much truth there is to it. Sadly, it's starting to seem pretty true to me.
  23. I'm waiting also to see what "type" of license he had. I have heard the news refer to a "type of license" several times but that is it. The only other type of license I can think of is a FFL (Federal Firearms License) and there are several sub categories of those. If he had a FFL that allowed him to have a SBR (short barreled rifle, doesn't exceed 18") for example, that would be even more embarrassing, especially for the Feds.
  24. Plaxico and Talib say hi! Me either. That's just stupid.
  25. How exactly would we track ammo? I'm interested in the proposed logistics of this.
