While we're only doing to-go orders, my boss made sure we all have face shields, disposable aprons, and gloves galore.

We had a private conversation yesterday. He told me we're not going to reopen the dining room until all precautionary measures are no longer necessary, which means it's gonna be a while.

I won't get my first check since coming back until Tuesday, but I was told that our pay has been majorly boosted & that my eyes will bug out when I see it. 😎

My sister in Atlanta went back to work last week at the restuarant where she works.  She was only responsible for one table througout the day so didn't make as much as usual.  She wears a mask and gloves and isn't allowed to touch anything dirty-meaning if something has to be cleared, she has to ask one of the people responsible for that to do it.

Fair point, but I’m fairly certain about 60% of those deaths are elderly patients confined to nursing homes.

Which is terrible, obviously.  But not indicative of wide community spread in the county.

Agreed since the two big nursing homes had severe outbreaks. And your point is well taken about rural counties. Here in Powhatan, we have had very few cases and being spread out naturally has something to do with it I think. What I don’t understand is why Virginia is so far behind in testing.

    Re:  Virginia.

On one hand, it’s not comforting to see my state ranked 47th in testing per capita.

On the other hand, I live in Hanover County.  We have 100K people here, 109 cases and 9 deaths.  How many tests do we need out here?  Nobody is sick and the hospitals are empty.

So, how much of the state resources should we allocate to setup testing on demand for Hanover?  To accomplish what...to tell us what we already know?  That our rural location combined with the lockdown kept us mostly isolated?

Allocate the tests to where the outbreaks are happening...Tidewater and the beltway.

Also want to add that it appears that VA has administered roughly 30k tests in the last week.  So, we have begun to ramp it up quite a bit.

Henrico county has 835 cases and 95 deaths (second highest death total behind Fairfax).  So, it's not just Tidewater and the beltway.

We have an online scheduling app for work, and i got the "Bam Fam Telegram" last night that our dining room will remain closed until we can open it safely, takeout & delivery are booming, and shifts are available for the takeout team.

My sister works in a restaurant in Atlanta, and they are having a meeting today to discuss the new menu and procedures to be ready to re-open on Monday.  Glad she has her job back, but worried for her health.

I feel you. Your dentist is in the medical field, is he/she saying it can or should wait?  Hospitals are rescheduling elective surgeries to make room for Covid-19 patients. That doesnt mean they are going to tell women giving birth or folks having heart attacks to go home or not come (at least I havent seen that yet)

Well, I just heard from the dentist, and they won't see me unless it's an emergency.  If the pain is too much then they'll see me.  If the crown comes out, I'm suposed to call them and they'll walk me through how to put it back in.  I told them the whiskey is good for any pain, and they agreed that it would also help kill any bacteria. 😃

So, kind of a good news/bad news situation I suppose.

  6. Well, I gave in and got  BritBox subscription so it'll be Death in Paradise, 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, and other British shows.

Oh, and I do have to work from home and still call into meetings and run reports.

  7. Here in Richmond, we've been told to work from home "for the forseeable future"  Yesterday afternoon people were taking home their desk chairs, files, etc.  Trying not to dwell on it too much, but sometimes I go down a rabbit hole and wonder when we'll go back-if ever.  Some people love working from home; I don't like it.  I enjoy the intereaction, and since I'm in testing, some great solutions have happened in just casual conversations that don't exist when everyone is remote.

Leipzig are an excellent team and with all the injuries Spurs dealing with its not exactly an upset that they went out to Leipzig.

True but it seems as if it's all happening at once.

  9. Well, it turns out the Spurs made the trip to Leipzig, but didn't show up!  Over the last few days, they've been bounced out of the FA Cup by a team that will be relegated, fallen out of contention for next year's Champions League, and been eliminated from this year's by a team in only their second Champions League!.  Injuries, questionable coaching... sigh...why do I follow teams that frustrate me so?

And Christ knows what will happen to the quarter-finals in Europe with games falling by the wayside to fans already. Seem's a mad scenario to have three thousand or so fans from Spain/ Madrid coming to both L'pool and Manchester over the next two midweeks with Spain on the brink of an emergency lockdown and reported cases/ deaths in Madrid spiking sharply.

The Spurs are supposed to travel to Leipzig tomorrow.    I assume they're still making the trip.

Teams now, sadly, as they have done for years, devalue the FA Cup as the money's just no longer in the tournament. And that filters right down the leagues madly. Not just at the top. But then the FA have devalued its own marquee competition for years with semi\s being held at Wembley etc. The complete current joke is the unfair officiating of the tournament, with VAR only available at PL grounds. One standard of officiating for one game. One for another.

I hate to rank trophies but if you were, you'd go the biggest prize in the game, European Cup, then the PL, then the second European major, the UEFA Cup, dependent on personal interest, or the FA Cup. (Neither generate much prize money. Just the prestige of winning a major trophy which is sadly lost on today's generation brought up with clubs, IMHO, disgracefully disres[ecting both.). And the League Cup, sadly now, a long distant last.

    Hail.

    This is helpful.  Thank you.

  12. So after reading @Gibbs Hog Heaven 's post about the FA Cup, I have a question.  Keep in mind this is coming from a noob.

What do the teams value more, a Premier League Championship, FA Cup, EFL Cup, UEFA Championship, or the Europa League Championship?  Since everything happens concurrently and I know Liverpool was upset that the replay happened during the Premier League "break", I was just wondering.

    Oh and #COYS!

Good thing he's only serving one term. Democrat need to get on board opposing right to work laws. Unions helped build the middle class.

I'm afraid it's not as cut and dried as this.  I taught school for 11 years, and I was glad most of that was in VA where I was not forced to join the union (strongly encouraged, yes, but not forced).  I felt that it was a bloated mess and I didn't want my dues going to endorse political candidates that I may not have agreed with.

On a side note, I really disliked their recruitment tactics-basically it was "if you get accused of something with a minor, we'll provide a lawyer at no charge!"

Watched the first episode of The Mandalorian on Disney+ Tuesday night, I thought it was pretty good.  Had the Star Wars feel with more grit.  I'm curious to see how it develops over time.

I started it last night and I'm completely on board.  The look and feel of Star Wars without the dumb humor.  Although when they were riding the creatures, it was a bit too much CGI.

  15. Started watching "Undone" on Prime.  It's animated, but in such a way that some scenes look very real and not in a Pixar way either.  A woman has a car crash and is visited by her dead father who died when she was 8.  He is going to teach her how to travel through time so he can save her.  It's a bit trippy.  I like it so far, but my wife pointed out that her father seems like he's a user. (not drugs, but people).  His "accident" occurred after he had to leave her in an unfamiliar neighborhood and now he's upending her life.

Like I said, it's trippy.  Maybe I need something to help me watch it.

Me too that’s the loudest I’ve ever heard a theater.

But now, knowing that his arrival still meant defeat, I don't get nearly as excited when I re-watch it.

Anyone else have that feeling when seeing Infinity War again?  Yeah, this is cool, but it's all for naught.

I know this may sound like a troll job, and maybe it's just me.

    Tennessee T-shirt story

Turns out, UT is also offering the boy a scholarship.

It was already a great story, and now it's even better: The 4th-grade boy who was bullied over his homemade University of Tennessee shirt, only to see his design turned into an official UT shirt, has been offered a four-year scholarship to the university as a member of its Class of 2032. The boy lives in Florida but is a huge UT fan, and the university says that as long as he meets the admission requirements, his tuition and fees will be covered starting in fall of 2028, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports. The university is covering those costs; all proceeds from sales of the boy's shirt design are going to the organization STOMP Out Bullying
