  8. It depends on what type of 34. In a 1-gap 34? Yes. In a 2-gap? Maybe. But it all depends on where/how a DC wants to use a penetrating DL. Personally, for a 34 I would like him at DE.

  12. More like the DIY project that Mike Shanahan built for 4 years and Bruce inherited and lived in for 1 year. Either way now we have a top line contractor/builder.
  13. A key aspect of my assessment of Bruce will be based on the changes made in the coaching staff. Even though Bruce made it seem like Jay is solely in charge of hiring/ firing his coaching staff I still put the burden of responsibility on Bruce's shoulder's for the choices he allows Jay to make. I was ready to give him credit for Haslett's firing but it seems like he nor Jay have actually owned that decision. I have to admit that even though the right thing happened it appears that Haslett had to help them make the decision. So again not a strong sign. But they have 2 very important vacancies to fill: DC and QB coach. And imo they have at least 1 other vacancy to create...Raheem Morris.... But at the end of the day their success/failure will be judged in W/L next year.
  14. I thought we should have hired a GM back when Shanny/Bruce were brought in. When Mike was here it was his show. Bruce wasn't acting as GM until this offseason and that is where I mark the beginning of his assessment period. I'm a fair guy; and even though I don't think Bruce has the chops to be a good enough GM to lead us out of the gutter I'm willing to consider that I could be wrong. However; Bruce is not off to good start. He had a bad offseason FA/draft but my main issue with Bruce is hiring Jay. And even though its imho HIGHLY unlikely; Jay could prove to be a good coach. Bruce needs a much better offseason. and Jay needs to be a much better coach. But I can't make a referendum on Bruce after 1 season.
  15. No worries, just check out my posts in this thread.Don't worry about some of the thinly disguised trolls. Most of my posts are over their heads anyway. I wouldn't even see those types of posts if they weren't quoted, and lucky for me they usually aren't. Some of those trollstyle posts come from some of dumbest types of posters who argue via drive by strawmen and are often too stupid to or don't even bother to get other posters claims correct. (even after the view is re-quoted and spelled out for them) Back when people were lauding the Allen hiring I was one of the few pointing out that hey this guy is capologist not a GM. I was also one of the people that didn't want Haslett brought back. So anyone representing my views as anything other are being purposefully disingenuous.
  16. I said earlier in this thread that I would judge Bruce starting from this past off season. My main gripe with Bruce was the hiring of Jay specifically as it relates to the handling of the QB and the general lack of improvement with the team and the general needless circus atmosphere. He's made some other mistakes with the coaching staff and re-signing Rak. Some of these mistakes I understand in theory retaining Haslett/Rak. However some are more egregious eg lack of a complete passing game coaching staff. What i dont understand Is why many people that dont acknowledge Gruden's mistakes are soo upset with Bruce? If they're okay with Jay thus far then why the animus towards Allen?
  17. We should find a spot for this guy on the coaching staff OC/QB coach/spread game coordinator: Scott Frost
  18. I agree, if Jay and Griffin are going to return next year. I think its imperative that someone other then Jay/McVay are primarily responsible for QB development (and preferably play calling also). Jay has failed in the QB development side of his job with Griff and Kirk AND Jay made it clear that he had given up on Griffin altogether*. To give Griffin a fair chance to develop and compete Jay cannot be the voice of the passing game because his mind is already made up. There needs to be a knowledgeable objective voice. *Every NFL coach/QB I've heard on the topic thinks Jay is giving up on Griffin too quickly. (Billick, Mooch,Cowher, Parcells, Young, Dilfer, Joey T) everyone except Fran Tarkenton
  19. I hear yah, I would like to see Dan clean house GM+HC with new staff. But even then the 'buddy-buddy' stuff would still be present to a certain extent the NFL is a closed circle. There are coaching trees and relationship networks that are inevitable because the NFL is such insular environment. But I think there is a huge leap from advising Bruce to being in the actual GM. Judging from what I've read about AJ Smith dating back to his time in San Diego I would have to guess that IF he was GM he would have fired Haslett if not the whole staff. But appointing AJ Smith GM is closer to right then anything prior and that's better then what we have know.
  20. Here's my connect the dots everyone is mostly happy solution (except for Jay/McVay maybe) AJ Smith-GM Cam Cameron-OC/QBs (possible play caller) Wade Phillips-DC
  21. Pete Carmichael Jr from the Saints for OC/QB Coach (needs asst HC title) Tom Clements from Green Bay " Rick Dennison from Ravens" Brad Childress from KC "
  22. Well of course you think that because you have a low opinion of Griffin. But there are only 32 HC jobs in the world. Every year there are only about a handful of vacancies. There will be smart and capable coaches that understand how to develop QBs that wouldn't even need the concept of developing Griffin spelled out to them as I have explained because they would be smart enough to recognize it. I am certain that Jim Caldwell (if he didn't take the Lions job), Bevell, Tom Clements, Pete Carmichael etc would have accepted the job on those terms or understood those expectations implicitly. And we still don't know/and will never know that Jay didn't agree to those expectations to get the job and then thought screw it I changed my mind; and there isn't a GM in house to stop me.
  23. But, the currently accepted narrative is that Griffin got the Shanahan's fired or that Snyder chose the Griffin over the Shanahan's. Right now the narrative that's being currently molded is that Griffin is basically an uncoachable, unlikeable, egomaniac with poor work ethic, poor fundamentals that cares more about his brand then football. All this based on 2 bad games, 1 good game and 1 decent game and a whole bunch of off the record reports for sources inside Ashburn and the public blood letting from his HC. The irony is that if you look at Griffin's history none of current negatives were said about him. In fact the opposite was said about him. IF Griffin is back next year it will be a worse sham then this year. There is nothing more futile and destined to fail then forcing a player on a coach who doesn't want them. Nothing about Griffin suggests that he would be a distraction, but if he's back next year I'm sure those reports will come out as well. And the narrative that has been shaped by Gruden is masterful. Jay was ostensibly brought here to make Griffin better yet Griffin is worse. But despite that fact Jay has shaped the narrative that the blame rests completely and totally on Griffin. The best part is the narrative has become that when Griffin performs better it will be due to Gruden's tough love Gruden's tough love that saved Griffin's career. You have no idea how bad I want to be wrong. I hate shuffling deck chairs....
