Was just reading a tweet, I think it was, from DeSantis, saying that even preliminary analysis has found several legal violations that make the agreements invalid.

Any odds that DeSantis has somebody who can catch Disney lawyers in a legal mistake?

It’s very plausible to me that Florida could ultimately prevail in court. It will take the better part of a decade to happen including appeals and such, during which time Disney can just continue on like they have been. They’ll spend tens of million on legal fees, which is a drop in the bucket for Disney but will probably be a tough investment for the Florida GA. I see this settling in the future with Desantis’s successor, which I think is exactly what Disney is going for here. Just let them toss it into the courts and drag it out for years.

  2. Standing by my earlier guess that the actual sale price ends up being *well* under $6b. Maybe under $5b.

While being in the DC market and having the opportunity to rebuild the franchise to your liking does have some inherent advantages, we also have this reality:

Broncos sold for $4.65b less than two years ago have been top 5 in the league in attendance. They have an established brand and fan base. Their stadium, while not much newer than ours, is much more serviceable (note that they are also starting to think about a new one as well). It’s also located very close to downtown Denver.

As much as Snyder wants to wish his franchise is worth $7b (or now, $6b), I genuinely do not see it. The stadium is a dump. Any move to a new stadium in DC would have to overcome ridiculous political hurdles that don’t exist for other cities. The fan base has been rapidly eroding for decades and is legitimately now bottom 10 in the league. We have a name nobody likes and a brand that will forever be tied to Dan ****ing Snyder unless they go through the process of re-branding AGAIN. We have allegations of financial malfeasance on the part of the owner and pending lawsuits hanging over the head of the franchise. And the minority owners were willing to part with their shares of the team, TWO YEARS AGO, at a roughly $2b valuation. I’m sorry but did they just willingly cost themselves hundreds of millions of dollars? No. They saw the books and know the value.

Everything out there about Snyder thinking it’s worth $6b+ is just smoke he himself has put out there. I don’t think Harris has offered that much. I don’t think anybody would offer that much. And now Snyder is desperate for someone to bail him out and hunting that he wants Bezos to jump into the mix. It’s also info Snyder’s side is leaking to try to pump up the price tag.

My biggest concern is that the ownership group doesn't have the cash to fund a new stadium right away.  Whoever is buying the team needs to have a plan in place to build a stadium with their own $$$.

That's a tough ask, but it's necessary.  We cant go another 10 years with that trash heap of a stadium....

They'll ultimately spin it has a large scale redevelopment project, get the city to pay for a big chunk of it, and finance a ton of the rest. They might only need like $500m cash for a $3b+ project.

  4. General impression of the rumor mill from yesterday:

Lots of reports from credible people on the beat that it isn’t done yet (but “goal to go”.) I think this is probably the most accurate reflection of where things sit.

Lots of other folks saying there’s a deal.

Both could be essentially correct. There could be a verbal agreement, or the buyer meeting Dan’s price point, which makes it effectively over from a bidding standpoint. They still obviously need to finish the contract.

It's not unique to UVA, but what impact has COVID had on recruiting, etc.?  I don't know.

May have had a disproportionate impact on UVA given how soon after their title it was.

I like Forde but think he misses big here in so many ways.

in addition to what you said, Bennett has a 73% winning pct in general and 70% winning pct against the acc (which may be a shell of itself now but a lot of those wins come during a time period where acc was legit tier 1 league)

hes 16-10 in the tourney. 6 of those wins is the 2019 run and 3 of those loses are first round exits in the last 4 tournaments they made. So he’s 10-7 outside those 4 years.

and he took a program that had fallen apart and made it a top 20 program in the country.

im not a fan of his style of play but he’s clearly a great coach that’s had (is having) a good run.

people act like you can just say “we want to find a coach that will win more tournament games” and it’s as simple as that.

Generally agree with this take. If UVA moved on from Bennett they would almost certainly be worse for it. They don’t have a tremendous level of talent* and his style does help them be a very good regular season team. Oddly enough they generally do pretty well in the ACCT too.

*I will say though that Bennett has utterly failed to capitalize on his title. UVA has pretty high academic standards and he doesn’t like recruiting guys that are going to be one and done anyway, but man, they should be better by now. The only time his teams have ever done a thing in the tournament, he had like four future NBA players starting for him. That’s what it takes for his style to be successful. A bunch of a long athletes as 2-3-4 that can shoot it well. A great defensive presence at 5. And a 1 that is a top tier floor general AND can shoot. Their offense has to be hyper-efficient to effective at all. And for whatever reason their recruiting hasn’t been great over the last handful of years. They haven’t been able to land that caliber of player.

He was bad last year. Isn’t it telling to you that the Eagles seem to be moving on from him?

Not really. They’re set with Hurts and I’m sure Minshew is looking for a chance to play.

Not sure how much I’d factor in what he did last year (which admittedly I did not watch any of). That entire offense was designed around Hurts. Tough to just plug Minshew in and expect them to not miss a beat.

Moreso that 12 seeds win at a little over 35% of the time and Duke is coming in overrated after the ACC tourney win (the lowest ranked of the P6 conferences this year)..

Teams I wouldn't sleep on in the first round are Oral Roberts, Iona, and FAU.

Duke is a very different team than they were two months ago. ACC is weak this year, yes, but they can make some noise.

I am familiar with the plots of both games. My wife is not. These last couple of episodes have really hit her emotions hard.

I don't have the heart to tell her what happens in season 2. It's not going to be pretty.

My wife read ahead and is refusing :ols:

  10. NFL is a small enough club of owners that they absolutely engage in labor market manipulation ie collusion. You definitely saw it with the cap penalties on Washington and Dallas awhile back. I wonder how pissed they are at the Browns for the Watson fully guaranteed contract resetting the QB market in a huge way. I can see the owners putting their foot down and saying never again when it comes to Jackson’s demands.
