  1. That was great. You could tell Kliff really doesn't want to be a focus. He seemed like a guy who was like, "let me get back to my office where I can watch film". LOL Couple of things I liked - Collaborative coaching all moving in the same direction (no ego) We'll do whatever works for our talent and whatever those strengths are
  2. I think as we navigate through the player acquisition process, it's going to be difficult to know why a certain player is picked vs who everyone thinks we should go after. As we've seen with coaching hires, they have a plan, specific fits, characteristics, loves football, etc. Could be guys that aren't the most talented and doesn't have the best stats. Its hard to know but will be an interesting next few months. https://clutchpoints.com/sneaky-good-nfl-free-agents-commanders-need-to-sign Greg Dortch, Wide Receiver If there were an award for the most underrated receiver in the NFL, Greg Dortch would be in consideration. All the guy does is produce whenever he gets a chance. Dortch played at least 50% of Arizona's offensive snaps in only seven of their 17 games in 2023. He caught a touchdown or racked up at least 76 yards in four of those games. In eight such games in 2022, Dortch accrued at least 50 yards five times. Dortch has a connection with the Commanders that could link to a possible union between the two. Kliff Kingsbury was the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2019-2022 and was hired as the Commanders' offensive coordinator a few weeks ago. He and Dortch crossed paths in Arizona for two seasons, meaning Kingsbury is very familiar with Dortch's game and vice versa. Slot receivers had a huge emphasis on Kingsbury's offense during his time in the NFL and that is where Dortch specializes. Arizona drafted Rondale Moore to be their primary slot receiver, which hindered Dortch's opportunities in the desert. But when Dortch got his chances, he almost always came through. Wide receiver isn't the most glaring need for the Commanders this offseason. Terry McLaurin is still among the best at that position in the NFL and Jahan Dotson, while his sophomore season was disappointing, has plenty of promise in his own right. Washington should be able to address needs elsewhere on their roster with most of their cap space and draft capital. They could then pluck Dortch for cheap and still have a stellar trio of wide receivers. Dortch would be a great signing for anybody, but especially the Commanders. Mike Gesicki, Tight End If the Commanders want to become more dynamic in the middle of the field, Dortch is one way to go. Another would be Mike Gesicki. Gesicki is more of a huge slot receiver than a tight end who could fill the role that Zach Ertz held in Arizona during Kingsbury's tenure there. In 2021, Ertz ranked seventh among tight ends in slot snaps with 248 of them. In 2022, his 232 slot snaps ranked fourth at the position. Ertz ranked that highly in slot snaps despite playing only 11 games in 2021 and 10 games in 2022. If head coach Dan Quinn and Kingsbury want a tight end who can play a lot in the slot, Gesicki might be their man. He played 314 snaps from the slot in 2023, which ranked eighth at the position. He didn't play a lot at all in the lone season in Miami he spent with head coach Mike McDaniel, but before that, he was featured as a big slot tight end. His 412 slot snaps in 2021 was first among tight ends. In 2020, he was second at the position with 298 of them. In 2019, his 222 slot snaps were third at the position. Mike Gesicki is among the most athletic tight ends in the NFL. He provides much more versatility as a receiver at that position than Logan Thomas, who the Commanders could cut and save money this offseason. Gesicki's playing time and production have dropped precipitously the last few seasons, but he hasn't been in offenses that fit his skillset all that well. He could be a great fit in Washington. He'd be a nice value signing for the Commanders this offseason.
  3. Seems like a big push lately for Jayden Daniels to Washington. GetUp had a "bit" on it this morning with Field Yates, Riddick (says clear #2), etc. where Field has us taking Daniels. Meanwhile, Matt Miller with Abraham and then last week on GetUp with that crew.
  4. I don't know anything about the guy so will just wait and see but there's a lot of positives on him back when he coached with the Bills. Seems like an intense dude.
  5. If someone is going to pry the No. 1 overall selection away from the Bears, they are going to have to pay -- and pay a lot. Chicago would need a historic haul of draft picks and overall compensation to move off the first pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, sources say. In the words of one source, it would have to be "crazy." That indicates the Bears, who received the pick in a mammoth trade last offseason with the Panthers, are more likely than not to make the pick and land their new franchise QB. USC star Caleb Williams is currently No. 1 on Daniel Jeremiah's Top 50 list on NFL.com, and many evaluators around the NFL agree. Those who have scouted him view him as a special player, and his scouting picture is becoming clearer the more time teams spend on him. If Chicago does decide to take the former Heisman Trophy winner in Williams, they would almost certainly trade Justin Fields to the highest bidder in what should be an active and fertile market. Fields, who hit his stride in the second half of this season and should command considerable interest, received plenty of support this week from teammates (DJ Moore is one example) with hopes of him sticking in Chicago. Yet for the Bears, the rare opportunity to pick No. 1 might trump how impressed they have been with Fields. Chicago loved Fields' improvement this year and views his makeup as rare, sources say. He brought his team together, he works incredibly hard and he's a leader. But if it's about winning a Super Bowl, does Williams (who will be on a rookie deal for at least three seasons) give the team a better shot? Fields, who the Bears selected No. 11 overall in 2021, would almost certainly require a contract extension at some point soon if he stayed. General manager Ryan Poles was asked in early January for his mindset on making the choice between drafting a new QB or sticking with Fields. "We are going to turn every stone to make sure that we are going to make a sound decision for our organization," Poles told reporters. "I did think Justin got better. I think he can lead this team. But at the same time, there is a unique situation." Along with the No. 1 pick, the Bears also have the ninth selection this year, their own pick. Before anything, though, the Bears first must do a full evaluation on all the QBs, not just Williams. UNC quarterback Drake Maye and LSU's Jayden Daniels are also in Jeremiah's top five. Chicago will evaluate through the NFL Scouting Combine (held from Feb. 26 to March 4), reassess, go through Pro Days and then collect all the info -- not just the physical traits. Getting to know Williams and the other QBs as people will be paramount. And while there have been public questions about where Williams would want to go, sources say he would welcome a selection by Chicago, or anyone who would take him. Last year, Chicago and Carolina agreed to their blockbuster trade on March 10, following the combine. While this year could follow a similar timeline if Fields is traded, it's currently quiet now. The chatter is expected to pick up around the combine, and once that hits, trades can be made at any time (to be made official at the start of the league year, on March 13). Either way, the Bears face an offseason that should shape the organization for years to come.
  6. Nothing yet but Jeff Zgonina (current dline coach) was with SF prior to joining Washington so there may be a Peter's connection thing going on there. We'll see....
