  1. They are not saying boo. Far more excited about this pick than Newton. Its an offense driven league. And I do care.
  2. When he does run I hope he pump fakes. Yes even across the LOS. For the love of sports tell me he already knows how to slide.
  3. What a stud he was. Back in the 70s, Joe Cool was the original Snoop Dog. Its time to announce Jayden the starter.
  4. He was a beast 100% yep a dominant DT. Maybe he held out because he didn't like the way he was being used here. I remember having far higher expectations of him than what we got out of him, so I probably didn't like it either. I am still miffed to hear Newton may not be ready for week 1 and still in a walking boot.
  5. I was so psyched when we got Stubby. DPOY 15 sacks... we had him playing read react and get run over in a passive D. Like so many DT studs we brought in - he did nothing here. I will forever blame our collective passive lame duck DCs not unleashing them in our perennial bend dont break carlos cushions littered with giving up 9 yards on first and 99 yard drives. And losing. Dana may have been the best of them. I remember Sean Gilbert was here too. Doing nothing.
  6. Nice pull on the shoulder... likely just draft paranoia. FTR I am not disputing that the league has universally switched to rotating out defensive players notably the DL. Again what I am disputing is that our top players are out of shape or otherwise unable to perform to expectations in just 5.5 minutes of full bore strenuous activity, very liberally spread across 3 hours. I still contend I will take Allen at 95% than Potatoe' at 100% ICE COLD. That clear backup guy coming in ice cold better be damn ready to get attacked by OCs searching for weak links, and outperform Allen. If I am an OL or OC I am thrilled Allen and Payne are on the bench. Until we got Newton, at least. If the modern day DCs going to a scrub backups in the 3rd series was a game changer, backup DL would have higher PFF grades than the starters, right?? Finally we have stats on this ****. The backup laden defense collectively also posting better stats than the starters. Lets see them. I bet some here may recall hearing pass rushers subbed out annoyed because they had been setting up an OL and on the bench, their plan neutered. A coach knows who has a high motor laced on Sudafed and a guy that is out of shape. . Sub accordingly. Here are 2 motors from back in the day.
  7. Load that ****ing omlette with protein powder.
  8. Woah woah they said he was going to get ~400 snaps?? I can't wait to see him in beast mode too. My complaint is not about the player at all, its a fear that our best players wont be used as much as possible since our 3 best players on D play the same position. And sure enough, we hear the 3 will be on the field at times. Almost reeks of PR damage control to validate drafting him into a position of strength. Why show our hand to OCs in April?? Newton seems flexible and Q seems smart enough to move him around. Only, our DCs have failed to meet my expectations for 2 decades despite my 2 decades of buying into what they say when hired. We are gonna attack the QB and force turnovers... yeah right. You say players need rest. I am sticking to my guns. They get rest after every play. Hurry up is almost completely gone less the 2 minute drills. Allen goes full bore for 5 minutes across 3 hours. Again, a world class athlete. It's 100% pure speculation that he needs rest. What he needs is to be at full health to play full time and be effective. Allen had a foot injury plantars?? that maybe never fully healed. That **** is painful as F and was on the injured list all year. And he had a knee late.
  9. There is enough disagreement within the scouting service for me to label him a first round grade and it not be far off base. Heck, Maye was consensus #2. What happened? Its kind of odd you are splitting hairs over me calling him a first round grade taken 4th in round 2, and then go on to say "trust me we'll get plenty of use out of him and the fact he was grabbed in the second will be a steal". Isn't a 2nd round "steal" basically the same as a first round talent, and just the scouts or GMs were a little off? I'll counter that and say trust me, we will all wish he could be on the field full time.
  10. Agree but more so to the 4 DBs IMO. Backers sub out quite a bit. Regardless any of those back 7 top draft picks barely able to get on the field yet should be full time players, are absolute disasters of a draft pick. Just like a top pick in the front 4 that barely sees the field, its simply not wise usage of draft capital. All things equal I think top picks should be focused on full time players. Defenders are being subbed out because the modern day defensive coordinator clearly likes complexity with multiple packages in confusing exotic schemes. Its no surprise we see blown coverages so often. Subs come at a price more than just taking your best players off the field.
  11. Ron largely did not draft for need IMO. He basically ignored QB, stockpiled defense with questionable top picks, and ignored the OL. I have PTSD from him drafting defenders as a priority (and the stacked defense failing in spectacular fashion) so was jaded at the pick but if Newton sees the field along side Allen and Payne and gets us immediate return on investment the pick will work out fine. All things equal I think its a mistake to draft a first round grade player on defense and at best them be rotational or "maybe a starter by year 2 or 3". Blame Jamin Mathis Forbes et al. Maybe even Quan. I get it; modern defense is all about shuttling your best players off the field to put in spackle backups - I am just old school and don't always like it. Give me Allen a supreme athlete arguably our best player full time vs Allen splitting time with Potatoe' or Mathis. Now, subbing him out for Newton I could sign off on (i like to see top rookies PLAY) but again, we are taking a TOTAL STUD off the field. The push back to folks like me? Allen NEEDS a breather he is really gassed. Oh really. Any proof to that? Food for thought: A 320 pound DL sprinting to the sideline (or back on the field) to avoid a 12th man may gas them more, than staying in the game actually does. Actual game time with players going full bore is a mere 11 minutes, all very liberally spread out over 3 hours. I really hope we have a package with our 3 stud DL in the game at the same time, A TON.
  12. Its a bit odd how some get on tilt if you mention that Fields may have untapped potential. Ironically, Fields destroyed our defense in one half better than any other QB did all year. Eliminating the narrative but it was us. And it could have been worse if he didn't miss wide open Mooney deep and have to punt. And he did it without running. IIRC his OL was also in tatters. Lost their top RB early if not the backup as well. Or 3. JDR was probably on tilt fearing his legs. Chicago is the place QBs go to die as we all know. I continually beat the drums about how an OC gets a pass for his failures while its all the young QBs fault. I call bunk that an NFL starting QB "can't pass". What is true is that OCs often struggle to swallow their pride and implement a playbook call routes and plays that a QB excels at. Smart cheap pickup low risk move by Pitt.
  13. I wish teams would embrace subbing out OL versus... never ever doing it. Like putting in a few blocking TEs, Basically like subbing in OL, right? OCs are telling the defense we are going to run the ball without fear of the TE not used to the QBs cadence. Getting Coleman out there as a project allowed to do things he does best - using his athleticism lets say run blocking on zone runs or pulling... only to use that to help sell play action - seems a card an OC never dares play. Or hell let him plow the road a few times if we can run that day, or get a lead. To me it seems worth the risk of breaking the cardinal rule of no subs allowed on the OL. Ever. And using that 3rd rounder vs making it a development year only. Let him get his feet wet and maybe sub out a guy getting schooled for a spell. Develop him faster while throwing curves at the DC. Its always telling how when there is an injury to an OL, the backup OL often seem to never skip a beat. Continuity schmoooity. Many are old enough here to remember when defensive players never subbed out and still dominated. Aren't players in better shape now, maybe even far better? We talk about how Allen and Payne need a rest that DL need to be subbed out. They were gassed last year!!!1!. The horror cry me a ****ing river. I call bunk they are world class athletes on the field for 30 minutes of game time and asked to actually play full bore for maybe 15 actual minutes? If that. All spread out over 3 hours with tons of breaks. Hey if I am wrong and they desperately need rest, an OL must at times as well, right? Annual rant aside, I am Frist calling him the next Trent Williams -we are all gushing over our shiny new prospects so why the **** not. I wanted us to take the mauler over Trent Okung?? and Trent proved me wrong that athleticism can work. Dare I think AP saw a little bit of a Trent lottery play when taking him.
  14. I will likely pass on him in my fantasy draft. I think he's gonna be blocking an awful lot for our presumed thin OL to start, especially with Ertz healthy. I also avoid Kittle in the fantasy world, dude is just a great blocker and used as such particularly in the run game. I will be eyeballing nabbing JD however.
  15. Young / rookie TEs seemed to be all the rage taking over the league and I am glad we got on board. Fantasy owners know what I am talking about. I saw TE as a clear position of need and was thrilled AP saw the same despite adding Ertz. Oft injured and old Ertz former QBs and a pack mule were not going to cut it especially not adding a proven vet at WR for Daniels. I know many are drooling over him in part because he has the fullback mentality. Long live Mike Sellers. If we are lucky this guy becomes our Whorehay Kittle.
  16. Not to open a can of worms but taking the best player on the board and not addressing need, is why Chase Young was our pick vs addressing a glaring team need spanning 20 years... quarterback. Sure seems like taking BPA also led us to over drafting on the DL and neglecting glaring needs on the OL. Falcons taking their highest ranked best player QB ignoring needs, sure seemed to be the laughing stock of the draft. A GMs draft board is built factoring needs. There are no blind runs on positions. It's GMs addressing glaring needs as a priority. In this draft many panic took OTs because they need them and that's why Newton dropped into our laps. Back OT I am excited to see Sainristil because he plays physical and we should hear of great battles vs Luke in camp. LOL at the comparisons to Jimmy "I'll improvise to get INTs to catch the coaches eye in camp" Moreland. He only caught fans eyes and lame ducks from the QBs.
  17. 100% Luuuuuuke is going to be a thing. Once we kick out the road fans. I remember his dad almost exactly as they describe LMC Hammer. No frills efficient solid overall #2 type. Is the lack of skill vs press keeping EDIT everyone projecting him in the slot or is that because he was a QB and he is still learning and slot is the best place to learn. I would like to see some experts saying he projects to outside one day. He is tall for a waterbug. It'll be great to see him in camp vs the slot CB we took.
  18. Struggles with press... seems with his size he should be able to bulk up and hopefully toss some DBs aside one day en route to living up to the family name. With this size I would like to think he could be used outside one day, especially if we conclude Jahan's truly best playing slot.
  19. I am not liking seeing us not using our draft capital chart especially with Philly at the top. That return corner we helped them get better not get a return TD vs us.
  20. I kinda wish we took a QB to develop. Sure we have Jake Fromm BFD but I have been beating the drums to always have 2 young QBs on the roster with 1 being groomed. Joe Milton taken by NE was one that I think would have been interesting to grab - now they have 2 QBs to develop lol. Make no mistake Daniels is turnkey ready week 1 but what is our long term insurance for him, Fromm? Last year again showed QBs take their lumps and you need a solid backup plan. Overall a very good draft and will live with #0 Marcus F. Mariota.
  21. Mind boggling WRT how much draft capital RR invested in the defense. A true testament to how horrible our DC was. Its a new day in DC and its nice to be drafting more than athletes. As a retired keep Howell fan I am going to treat nabbing LMc with the late 3rd the consolation prize for letting him go for F'in Mariota.
