  1. Got some support for this idea in the draft thread but didn’t want to muddy up the conversation.

This thread is to stake your claims as armchair GM and see how we’d have faired if you were at the helm. Should be fun to look back on as we get to next years draft and onwards.

There’s two ways to approach this:

    1) Real-time (who I would’ve picked while watching live)

    2) Hindsight (who I would pick knowing how everything ended up)

    Real-Time

    1st Christian Gonzales CB

    2nd Darnell Washington TE

    3rd Dawand Jones OT

    4th Braeden Daniels OT/OG

    5th Israel Abanikanda RB

    6th Ivan Pace LB

    7th Max Duggan QB

    Hindsight

    1st Jack Campbell LB

    2nd Cody Mauch OT

    3rd Ricky Stromberg C

    4th Nick Herbig DE

    5th Darius Rush CB

    6th Zach Kuntz TE

    7th Cory Trice CB

My approach was to use the trade up we made. But feel free to use our original picks, or base a hypothetical trade up another team made on the actual compensation used.

@JamesMadisonSkins I’m expecting absolute hypothetical trade chaos for your take and will accept nothing less

  2. Perhaps there’s a better place for this, but wanted to put the idea out even if I can’t do it til later.

would be fun to put two things down

Real-time mock: who you would’ve picked at our pick, knowing only what had happened leading up to our pick

ultimate hindsight mock: who you would pick at each slot knowing where everyone ultimately went

could be fun to look back

Why are we acting like this is new for Rivera because he’s afraid for his job?

And why are we changing narratives? The last few months it was, “Rivera will mortgage the future and mess this team up for the long term because he has to win now to keep his job!” (Not from you, Misdirection, but it was a very common sentiment from a few very loud folks).

Now, he hasn’t done that and that narrative can’t be spun, but now it’s shifting to “he’s building the best depth for JUST this year because he has to win!”

This is the same blueprint from the moment Rivera and crew took over. Safe, slow, risk averse, character players, position versatility and building depth.

    Why pretend this is different?

Only viable explanation is folks haven’t been paying that much attention. And if that’s the case, probably shouldn’t judge.

no you’re correct, this is how they’ve always done things. It’s clear that Ron isn’t going full win-now in mortgaging the future. And you’re right, I never thought he would lol.

he’s going to slow play this all the way til training camp etc for any cap related decisions so he doesn’t accidentally tank depth and someone else gets hurt.

I think Ron in win-now vs normal Ron is something small like keeping 1 of fuller/chase/Thomas that they might normally cut. Something so minute we probably wouldn’t really think much of 😅

It’s more what he’s saving in 2024. But I have to assume he’s in his final year regardless. We don’t have much cap space this year but can create some by letting Norwell go. Enough to sign picks and be flexible in season.

$5m on Gates and a 3rd round pick on a Center seems to spell the end for Roullier within a year anyway

this is where having a HC and GM as the same dude can impact decision making.

A GM on a multi-year deal may agree with you. Ron in his position is pushing his chips in, so to speak. He seems to be building a team this year to have as much depth as possible.

He’s got to make a deep run to have a chance to run it back next year. So he’s not going to just cut guys for future cap space.

he wants to load this team up with talent and depth at every position, and will figure out 2024 when/if he gets there.

  5. @London Kev RAS isn’t necessarily what’s perfect height or speed or weight or not. I think it’s just a spectrum from low to high that measures general athleticism on a positional basis. Average height/weight for the position would be a 5.

    5 height weight and 9 speed/bench/agility might mean a 7.5 RAS

    9 height weight and 9 speed/bench/agility might mean a 9.5 RAS

but doesn’t take into account that some prefer their centers shorter

  6. Doesn’t surprise me they’re out on Porter. His strength is as a man corner, no?

Ron and Mayhew were fairly outspoken about how they missed on William Jackson III and they will not make the same goof on scheme fit on a corner even in the draft.

May be an image of 1 person, playing football, football helmet and text that says 'ppeuo Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter Eagles' QB Jalen Hurts' salary-cap numbers for the next four seasons after today's $255 million extension: 2023: $6.15 million 2024: $13.56 million 2025: $21.77 million 2026: $31.77 million'

You are going to have to draw that outrage with crayon for me to understand it, because they just signed a top NFL QB off a trip to the SB and it doesn't hurt their cap space at all.

    At All!

these cap hits are insane. And that’s what happens when you sign someone early instead of making them prove it again and again while you run out of cheap years to spread cap out.

Not to rehash the right/wrong decision, but logistically we could’ve done something similar with Kirk when he was up for extension. That’s how you can win while still paying big money. Do it early.

instead we waited out and put him on the tag, and it got exponentially more expensive and contentious.

    Eagles W unfortunately

  8. @SoCalSkins saw your post in then team sale thread about 2 stream limit. We use YTTV for the last year or so, I enjoy it personally, but don’t know enough about the Sunday ticket offering. I’m considering purchasing but logistics of it I’m unsure of.

can the two streams be anywhere or have to be inside the home? Like if we’re traveling can I watch on my phone and someone else in the house?

also, can the games be recorded? Or is it a delegate interface and platform than base YTTV? I was assuming it was essentially extra channels

but because people can buy it without YTTV, and you said they have different streaming limit systems, it sounds like it’ll be different UIs possibly

  9. @Skinsinparadise I’m surprised you’ve only just started with Galdi’s podcast. When reading your radio segment breakdowns I always wondered why that wasn’t included

Sheehan is morphing into Loverro, the Junkies have been clowns for decades, and somehow Grant & Danny and JP and Bmitch are the best we have left, if you can believe it.

I’ve found myself defaulting to Galdi, who brings facts, numbers, analysis, both sides of a topic, and then his own take. Very consistent formula that gives me what I want to know. And his table of contents on Spotify for each podcast is huge when I’ve only got 20 min.

His biggest L is carrying water for Thor Nystrom

whom I know isn’t the biggest celebrity in the draft thread 😂

oh and so not to derail any further, it’s been pretty quiet on the sale news front lately… has to be something brewing!

  10. Nobody is negotiating the finances in public, but it’s very possible they are negotiating the PR win.

Dan wants the story to be that he got Bezos to overpay because he got one over on him by pretending not to sell.

Jeff wants the story to be that he has no time for petty games and will not be bullied into anything.

By my count, if it matters, Jeff has now taken the PR lead

True - but we do still need to add some young quality to the group - its still very much open to us drafting OL early depending how the board falls - we just don't HAVE to do that now.

I completely agree, should never stop seeking it out. signing guys that could play multiple OL positions competently though means we can let the draft come to us instead of forcing picks for need. Maybe the 1-2nd best G or C is the right guy to take instead of the 6th beat OT in the draft for example.

Given the price tag no Lamar is not better than Howell. The Eagles won a lot of games due to weak schedule and San Fran playing with no QB. They got lucky. Good for them. But Hurts couldn't deliver in the SB though. So that was his ceiling. His career completion % is around 62. He is a running QB too. When you go up against a team like the Chiefs you need more than a running QB to win a SB. So again no to Lamar.

Stafford was on a stupid team and even with Megatron he couldn't take the team all the way. McVey setup the team to the point where he needed a good but not great QB and they won the SB. This is the exact thing we need to do. Setup the team and spend on OL and if Howell works out we are giddy. But if he doesn't then next year you can drop a good QB and win the season. This year is not the year to drop a lot of money on a QB regardless of who the owner is.

Lamar would be a retread when used as a noun. Putting a new tread on (a worn tire).

you cannot possibly be blaming the eagles Super Bowl loss on Hurts. Did we watch the same game? That was a defensive and special teams

    failure.

He put up 35 points on 71% completion, 301 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 1 Fumble, 70 rushing yards, 3 rushing TDs.

now it was a bad fumble they scored on, but let’s not pretend that’s the sole reason they lost this game.

the only reason we are out on Lamar is the ownership situation. If this opportunity presented itself either of the last two years and we had no money issues you can bet we’d have at least made an offer.

Lamar would be unequivocally the best QB we’ve had in a long time and we all have burgundy glasses

on if we think otherwise. He is who RGIII thought he was lol.
