Y’all being irrational now. He is an actual ambassador for the team. Has his own locker and designed their jerseys. I don’t understand the hate towards drake if anything the anger should be directed to the raptors for enabling it.

    He's a front-running groupie.

I don't think Brand has done a good job though.  In general, I think front office experience matters for doing the job well.  Specifically, experience as a scout.  But executive experience is big too.  As is experience working in a successful and competitive organization with a good culture.

I'm pretty sure we have to go outside this organization to get a good culture builder.

He pushed all the chips in the middle of the table in acquiring Butler/Harris.  We've NEVER seen EG make a move like that.  Everything he did was cautious.

I agree with you last sentence about going outside the org to get a good culture builder, but I think it's going to be either Shep or Pops.  The hail mary for Masai isn't going to happen.

PMB would worry me in that he wouldnt have the clout to tell Ted he's wrong. Ted strikes me as the type that could be meddlesome. I could easily see a situation where Ted is making the calls and PMB is catching the blame

With him only being 35/36 years old, I can see that happening as well.  But if Ted can really take a step back and TRUST PMB to do his job, then I'd be willing to give him a fair shot in getting things right with the org.

Started in management earlier.  Connelly was in management for almost 15 years before he got an Assistant GM job.  Those guys are also wunderkinds, not typical candidates.  And we're not just looking for a GM, we're looking for a president.  There is zero chance that someone like Mensah Bonsu would leapfrog Sheppard for that role.  Nobody would want to work for an organization that would do something like that.

I can also see a Shep/PMB tandem happening.  I just don't think Ted is going to hire someone outside of the organization.

I'm not buying back in if either of them are the ones who get the job.  Mensah Bonsu doesn't make sense for the job.  Too young and virtually no NBA experience.

How much sense did Elton Brand make at the time for the 76ers?  MB would be an outside the box hire for sure, but at this point.....

As we've waited this long, we might as well wait til the finals are over and take a swing for Masai

I just looked and saw Ujiri makes 3 mil per year....Ted HAS to come north of 5 mil per season.  Make him the highest paid GM by far.

That's awful.  How about instead of cutting the media out take away voting privileges for anyone who does something stupid like that?

What dawned on me (after I saw it tweeted) that these votes affect player salaries.  Media should NEVER have the ability to dictate what players potentially earn.

Ok...here's what I think is going to happen with the Wizards as far as the GM search.

It's going to be either Pops Mensah Bonsu or Shep.

  5. Even as a Wizards fan, I got really nothing against the city of Toronto or the Raptors.  However, I want them to be swept because of Drake.  LOL

I'm gonna defend Draymond for a second here...he's an invaluable member of their starting 5.  No, he'll NEVER be the best guy on a team, but his intangibles, intensity, and overall defensive awareness are off the charts.  He's a guy who holds everyone accountable on the floor and I really think if he was to miss an extended amount of time in the finals for whatever the reason, the series could possibly go 6 or 7 games.

Is there a worse contract than a super max that hasn't even started yet owned by a player that it is already out for the following season with a torn achilles, which he received after repeated knee injuries?  That's close to a worst case scenario.

I've said it before, but I fault EG for 99.9% of the things gone wrong with the Wizards over the past 15+ years...that .1% that I don't, is the contract he offered Wall.  There isn't a GM on the planet who wouldn't have done the same.  It is what it is at this point, but I'm not concerned with it.  The rebuild should start as soon as the new GM is announced.  As much as I love what Beal has grown in to, he needs to be moved.  He can bring in an amazing return that can net young assets and probably a pick or two.  Exactly what's needed from this team at this juncture.

Also, with this team going nowhere anytime soon, why not make a calculated risk and hire Pops Mesah Bonsu?  Weaver, Shep, and Ferry all have their warts.  I'd love to see Pops get an interview.  What's the worst that can happen?  Might have a diamond in the rough.

  7. 6 minutes ago, stevemcqueen1 said:

You're right about that.  They need to make eligibility for the contract more restrictive.  But it's hard to take something away from the players when they've already gotten it.

Yet another argument for doing away with max contracts and going to a hard cap.

I think he can be effective when he plays.  But this is the kind of injury that limits a guy to 50-60 games a season even when everything is mostly going right for him.

I'd also like to think that the constant advancements made in the medical field can HOPEFULLY have him playing 70+ games for a good stretch when he returns from injury.

Honestly, for a PG who had injury woes and redfined their games, Jason Kidd should be a guy Wall consults with and tries to model his game after going forward.

  8. I fault Ernie for just about everything...offering Wall the supermax, which he earned under the guidelines of the CBA, isn't one of them.

Also, I'm not that worried about Wall's effectiveness when he returns.  His athleticism is going to take a hit, but he's not going to lose his ability to pass the rock.  Slowing the game down might be a good thing for him as he approaches 30 years old.  There are numerous guys who played the point who had to remake their games once they hit a certain age.  I have no reason to think that Wall won't do the same.  He should EASILY average close to 10 assists per night and the scoring should be between 15-18ppg.

The NBA combine starts in a week.  We probably need to go ahead and get on with this GM hire, but I get the sense we're holding out to see what happens with Ujiri and Connelly.

So if those teams could just hurry up and crater out of the postseason, that would be nice.

As for the combine, the most important data points for me will be to get official measurements on

    - Culver's height and wingspan and weight

    - Hunter's height and wingspan and hand size

Also, nbadraft.net is running surprisingly thoughtful articles on prospects.  I enjoyed this latest one: https://www.nbadraft.net/situational-analysis-matisse-thybulle

Check out those arms.  Three and a half steals a game is insane.  That is NBA 2k-esque.  He sounds like the kind of role player we need to help change our culture and put a team of defensive studs around Beal's offense.  I wish we had some assets to trade back into the end of the first round with.

I think it's gonna be either Ujiri or Connelly.  That's why this process is taking so long to conclude.  I'd be ecstatic with picking either 1/2, but honestly, getting 3 or 4, you're getting an IMMEDIATE starter.

    1 - Zion

    2 - Ja

    3 - Barrett

    4 - Culver/Hunter

Thinking about next year, I'd love to see Troy Brown get some extended PT at the 1.  No reason for him not to be able to do what Sato does (assuming Sato walks.)

  10. The article was stupid.  Everything she talked about was discussed openly on message boards, etc.  You gotta be a real idiot to not know what was going on.  Why seek out quotes from ex-players now, when she could have gotten the same soundbites years ago...Article did absolutely nothing for me.  Candace should have had that same energy from a while back.  *yawn*

Kahwi didn't want to play for the Raptors either....and now according to various reports, he's seriously considering a future in Toronto.

    Similar situation with Paul George.

    Basically, you never know....

Now with that being said, I'm definitely not trading that pick just to move John's contract.

I don't believe ANY reports about Kawhi's future because dude doesn't say ****.  LOL.  No one knows where he's going except for him.

That being said, I think the stars will align next Tuesday and we'll end up with the #2 overall pick.  That's just how it's gonna be.  Ja WILL be a Wizard just to make things awkward.

I've rarely been impressed by LeBrons defense, but I think I was more struck by the idea of him being 5th to 8th.  He was 27.7 ppg, which is tied for 3rd in nba, plus 8apg and 8rpg.  Dude has just spoiled us it feels like, second he's all in again or if he was in the playoffs, wed be factoring in his second season with regular season in this convo.  I'd rather have LeBron them Harden, but thats more personal then statistical.

Giannis and Kawhi are on teams that if you plugged Lebron in to would be in the same position they are in right now.  You are downgrading him for not being able to save a sh**ty Lakers team like Giannis or Kawhi could. That's illogical.

Absolutely not.  Maybe getting the Raptors to 50 wins, but on the Bucks, I'm not seeing it.  Lebron 100% can't do it on his own at this stage in his career.  Put him on the Bucks, they're a playoff team, but they're not winning anywere close to 60 and being the best team in the league.  You're severely underestimating what Giannis does on a nightly basis just to deny that Lebron is on the decline.   Like I said before, Lebron is currently in the 5-8 range.

I have Harden at 4th because his defense leaves a lot to be desired...but you can make an argument for him being one of the 3-5 best offensive players in NBA history.  Dude is unreal.

  13. 11 hours ago, Renegade7 said:

Nonsense, he was stuck on that square Laker team with no other stars which didn't stand a snowballs chance in hell in the west.  That works in the east, conversation would get quiet if he was on a playoff team still doing his usual 30 point triple double that people take for granted.

He was stuck?  He CHOSE this lakers team lol. You wrote an entire excuse haha. He puts up numbers, but look at what Giannis and Kawhi are doing. Their impact both in the win/loss column and statistically is exactly what Lebron was doing on some of those goofy roster Cavs teams when he was in his 20s. Lebron is 100% not that player today, but he’s still one of the 5-8 best players in the league.

not his fault he has a bad team around him

You’re not taking THIS version of Lebron over Giannis, KD, or Kawhi. I’m a huge Lebron fan, but there’s not a chance in hell I’m doing it.

  15. 1 hour ago, Renegade7 said:

Pierce is right, are we having this discussion because LeBron is at home right now?

You see anything from Lebron this year to suggest he's still in the top-3?  At some point he was bound to show decline...this year was the start of it.  Just goes to show his greatness that a slide for him is not being in the top-3 discussion to top now being in the top 5/8.

And Paul Pierce is never right.  *Draymond Green Voice* They don't love you like that
