Regarding the McLaurin extension - it wouldn't start until next year, so we don't need cap room for him this year.   Am I wrong?

He was available to extend at the start of the league year(after 3rd year).

I reckon Wentz will be fine with that.

You can see even with the smaller deals that JD and McCain go that they added voidable years to push the cap out. I could even see a scenario where he get a re written deal with voidable years on to get push some cap out.

Listening to Rivera, there is no way this is a one and done for Wentz. And if he fails then I suspect Rivera should be done too.

That said, we don’t appear desperate to utilise cap space too much so it may be a non factor.

Unfortunately for Ron(and I'm not unhappy with the trade) I feel like this will somehow blow up in his face.

Sounded like Rivera wanted to rework the Wentz contract to facilitate us extending a couple of our own, he said. Terry Mc and Payne you’d think.

I'm sure he'd like to but Wentz has to be willing, it also takes away one of the best pros for the trade...an out with no loss of cap space beyond this year if it doesn't work out.

Definitely Dean over Lloyd.   Only issue is his size to play MLB.

After all the signings, it seems like we have approx. 12 mil cap room.   We should spend every penny of it, since 12 more mil is coming June 1st.

We pretty much have, isn't it like 6-8M for draft picks and the additional savings from Collins needs to flipped the moment it becomes available into an extension for Terry.

  4. Folks good morning...just wanted to be captain obvious but one week to go.  Hope everyone is dotting their "i"s and crossing their "t"s.

For my sake to avoid the confusion...what system are we using for draft pick order this year.   Last year I used a differing program and had picks that threw everything off...don't wanna be that guy again 😂.

Edit: Stupid real life Raiders giving up my first round draft pick.  Second year in a row with a team that doesn't have one 😭

Double Edit: CRAP THEY GAVE UP THE SECOND TOO

  5. So I don't pay much attention to the Raiders and have tried doing some research.  I've been to three different forums and have seen 3 different ideas on draft needs 😂.  I think I'll have to let the wife know I need to head to Vegas for research purposes only.

Wait. We had 28 million in cap space after trading for wentz right? How did cutting collins get us down to 12M? Didn’t we save money?

No, Wentz cost 28 million this year...fully GTD.  We were down to about 5.5-6.2M, Collins bought us another 6M but that dead cap...ugh!  Really had hoped they'd treat him as a June 1st and spread that dead cap out.

I'm pretty sure you just saw my post above talking about the Texans...but I'm going to assume it's because I'm not recognizable even with a name change👀.

Let me know how I can assist you guys if you need it!

  8. Would definitely be interested in running it back this year, would be intrigued to see if a team becomes available that's not the Texans.  Open to helping keep this running, it's a tradition around here.  Would hate to see this go.

Not if Willis or Pickett are on the board.  But he would be in the mix as QB3 for me.  I liked his value a lot more as a potential second rounder though.

Strong is the one with the devastating knee injury in his history though.  If anyone is the most likely to suffer another one, it's him.

Agreed which is why I've prefaced every post praising him with the caveat his medicals have to be good to go

The vast majority of serious QB injuries come in the pocket. I think the injury risk with mobile QBs is overstated, personally.

I'd honestly love to see a study done on it but I'm not saying injuries can't happen in the pocket.  I'd just like to not add risk to it every time my QB takes off.  Maybe it's from watching Burrow, Dak, RG3, Rodgers, etc that's left me "shell shocked" with it and it's over blown.  I still take Carson Strong as the first QB off the board 🤷‍♂️

  11. 6 minutes ago, Zim489 said:

Yes they need to be able to work from within the pocket but the threat of a forcing an 11v11 game instead of the 10v11 is just too important.

Added bonus with potential of unnecessary risk.  It really comes down to preference, I'll err on the side of traditional qb play while you back the new generation style.

  12. 3 minutes ago, Zim489 said:

Well personally I think mobility in todays game is just way too valuable to not have. He was worse than Mac was last year. I loved his ability to throw but he was on my Do not draft list. If he can move to an average to above average player hes a first rounder. Do not want otherwise.

I know it's the  "it" thing in the NFL for qbs to be able to be a duel threat QB, put me in the traditional group where I want my QB working from the pocket dissecting a defense while being able to maneuver to avoid hits.  Everytime a qb scrambles you risk a Dak Prescott or Joe Burrow injury, the game is set up to protect it's QBs inside a pocket.  This team had the sixth best line in the league, why not use it.

    Meh :)

I pegged him as being the likeliest one to rise of the bunch, but for me, I'm still taking Pickett or Howell over him as of now.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion...even if it's wrong 😉

  13. I'll share the mantle for Carson Strong fan club...I just know I've posted a crap ton on Twitter to laughter and jokes about Carson Strong and I've just patiently been waiting for them all to eat crow.  Not sure how anyone who's watched tape couldn't see he's the best qb in this draft aside from his medicals.  I'll never turn away another fan!

    So, Carson Strong at #11?

I may be Carson Strong's biggest fan here, I was hoping we could at the very least sneak down further in the draft and get him while Corral, Howell, Willis, & Pickett go.  Unfortunately I think people are starting to see what I saw with him.  He's likely to be QB1 or QB2 off the board and more than likely gone before we pick so long as the medicals check out 😑

A thought exercise is "If Strong had a healthy knee, where in the draft would he go?"

    I think he'd end up QB2 or QB3

If he didn't have questionable medicals I'd be willing to bet he'd be the consensus QB1 in such a down year for QBs.

I spent a lot of time on Ridder for 2 years now and still don't know what to think about him.

I am intrigued that they are intrigued by Carson Strong.

Strong's interview which I posted here last weekend where he basically said his knee wasn't right last year and was throwing with basically just his upper body without his legs helping (amazing considering he still had a strong arm)  and his mobility now is improved because his legs feel better -- i guess will see if that's so in a few days at the Senior Bowl.

    **REMOVED MEDIA**

Shhhh I told you...Carson Strong will be the best qb from this draft, now lets sit back and hope no one else realizes while we pick him in the 2nd 👀

  17. just ran my first mock simulator of the year.  A few notes, I don't think Dean lasts that far into the first but 3 qbs went in the first 10 and then a giant lull.  I had the option of Carson Strong or Malik Willis...though I'm probably Carson Strong's #1 promotor on this board at the moment...I went based on how I feel Rivera and staff will go.  Given he said he wants a qb with twitch and ability to run I'd assume he goes Willis over Strong.  I consider Breece Hall a luxury pick in the 3rd but he'd fit in quite nicely with AG and hopefully JD back.  Jeremy Ruckert I could easily be swayed on but there was not much value at the pick from where I was drafting(rbs/tes galore).  Would probably consider a trade down from that spot if given the opportunity.  Nick Ford has great potential as guard and provides versatility having played all over the line with Utah.  Tre Turner imo had the most potential out of the project wideouts that were left and I wanted to grab one.  Overall I'd be pretty happy if this ended up being the draft given we fix issues at FS via FA.

Yeah, that and he needs to stay healthy so he can get reps. We need him to be what we think he can be.

The big plus for him is that I don't believe health was an issue for him at North Carolina.  I'm hoping this past season was a one off for him.  None of it matters though if we don't fix our qb issues either by way of draft or FA.

And Dyami Brown needs to take a huge leap forward if he's gonna be the steal of a pick many people thinks he was. I have high hopes for him.

I know I was one of the people extremely high on the Brown pick and I think the potential was slightly shown towards the last few games.  Unfortunately we need to get a qb with an arm to hit deep threats for a deep threat specialist to thrive
