  1. I saw a promotional interview on the spectrum channel in Wilmington, NC. The Producer and interviewer for ESPN said that Ric Flair told him that was one of the reasons that he fought to live while in the hospital. He said that Ric Flair said he could not die before the show aired on ESPN. The interviewer was a big fan of Ric Flair, . The Spectrum guy said he didn't really watch Wrestling himself much as a boy but knew about Ric Flair. The ESPN guy dropped a nugget that Ric Flair really lived his angle in real life and claimed to have been with about 10,000 women. I can't wait to see the special. I hope that they show a bunch of his NWA, Mid Atlantic days. I would imagine the plane Crash in Wilmington, NC would be part of the program!

Representative Carol Shea-Porter unexpectedly announces she’ll retire New Hampshire US Representative Carol Shea-Porter announced Friday she will not seek re-election in 2018, saying that “the time has come in my life to pause and decide on a different path.” Over the course of the past decade, Shea-Porter, 64, has served four times in the House of Representatives, winning, then losing, then reclaiming her seat. Her decision is a political bombshell with national implications. At a time when Democrats are looking to win back a majority in the House, Shea-Porter is one of the few Democrats holding office in a district that Republican Donald Trump won last year. New Hampshire’s First Congressional District, which includes Manchester and the state’s Seacoast and Lakes Region, is the most hotly contested in all of New England.

  5. This is a long read but Terry Funk describes what the Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling was like when I was growing up. It especially singles out the Carolinas. On the same website it describes the history of the Mid Atlantic Championship belt. I just saw the news about Bobby "The Brain" Heenan passing away. He was a legend. http://www.midatlanticgateway.com/ Funk: It was based on the talent and the promotion, to the means of getting to the towns right on down the line to the pay. I mean it was the cream of the crop that came to the Carolinas. And that’s for certain. Just the greatest bunch of wrestlers in the world. I mean, look back at it ... Steamboat, Flair, McDaniels; you go all the way back to Johnny Weaver and that bunch. And oh my God, the great tag teams like the Scotts and the Andersons! I mean, my God! Funk: You know, I’m going to tell you something David. The important thing about it is you’re bringing back memories before the WWE era…they are trying to purposefully eliminate all other things other than them. Chappell: They do have the WWE Network now, but certainly a lot of that’s gone on. Funk: They don’t even like using the names of the wrestlers from the past. They want everything different. They want to erase the past. And that was not a past that should be erased. Because it was what it was…I’m going to tell you something, it was the good times. And the good times for the fans. For us, for the wrestlers and for the fans, it was the good times.

Pence cast the deciding 51st vote in favor of nixing the rule, after the legislation stalled in a 50-50 tie. Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Susan Collins (Maine) sided with Democrats to vote against repealing the Obama-era rule, prompting the need for the vice president to break the tie. The vote marks the third time Pence has had to break a tie since becoming vice president. Republicans are using the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to roll back some Obama-era regulations with a simple majority vote.

The measure, which was passed Thursday by the Senate, will allow Republicans to use special budget procedures to repeal major parts of the Affordable Care Act without cooperation from Democrats. House Republicans from divergent wings of the party had raised concerns this week about taking the initial step without having a more detailed plan in place for ultimately replacing Obamacare with a GOP alternative. But House leaders worked in recent days to address those concerns, even as President-elect Donald Trump made public statements setting out an ambitious timeline for action that many on Capitol Hill see as unrealistic. The final vote was 227 to 198 with nine Republicans voting no.

The Holman Rule, named after an Indiana congressman who devised it in 1876, empowers any member of Congress to propose amending an appropriations bill to single out a government employee or cut a specific program. The use of the rule would not be simple; a majority of the House and the Senate would still have to approve any such amendment. At the same time, opponents and supporters agree that the work of 2.1*million civil servants, designed to be insulated from politics, is now vulnerable to the whims of elected officials. The revival of the Holman Rule was the brainchild of Rep. H. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.), who is intent on increasing the powers of individual members of Congress to reassign workers as policy demands.
