Would be hard to justify after this performance.

Everyone has their own opinion, I wasn’t even bashing Bailey’s. Simply responding to a post saying that we didn’t have any huge Penix fans here. I think he would qualify, is all.

I am a huge Penix fan. But this is below pedestrian in terms of QB play.  He does not look right to me. Could be the pressure. Could be anything. His passes have been off. His mechanics are bad. He looks wobbly. Usually, he is very accurate. They have played from behind a lot this year.  Anyway, it is disappointing. Probably is going to slip into the 2nd round.

These offenses are just so boring..run,run,run,or short pass..

Washington is usually not. They throw the ball a lot.  Penix is usually accurate. His RB is hurt. He does not look 100%.  Both D's have stepped up this half. And Michigan is effectively getting pressure and so are the Huskies.

Penix just has no interest in putting any weight or pressure in his right leg. And that was before the ankle. Makes his throwing motion look horrid at times. I am going to be interested to see what his medicals look like. We will know on draft night by how far he falls.

Yeah, I thought he was completely healthy. Something happened. Because he is not. He is definitely tumbling into the 2nd round.

Not sure who was selling penix as the potential #3 QB, but he’s looked awful. His throwing motion is ugly and he’s been making some real bad reads.

Me. I was. I was selling him as my #3. .Well he is playing like ****.

Does anyone else think Harbaugh comes across dumb as a box of rocks in his interviews?

He definitely was not expecting that question. Hey coach what were you thinking when you gave all your momentum to Washington?  Thing is Washington has played from behind a lot this year.  So, I guess he got a little tongue-tied.

Daniels played in the toughest conference in college football, against the toughest defenses in college football an put up madden numbers. Yes he did have a wonderful year.  But even the year before he played well enough to get a 3rd or 4th round grade.

On top of that, in his first year playing at asu people were already raving about his potential.

You act like he was some nobody though even last year people knew he was talented enough to play in the league. I'd use his 3rd or 4th round grade to justify this position.

People knew the talent was already their with him, and he just needed to put it all together, which it seems judging by his ridiculous numbers+his heisman that he did put it all together

Yes he had an amazing year. Was it a wonderful year compared to the rest he played? Yes. But was he a one year wonder? I'd say no based on the 3rd or 4th round grade coming into the year.

Plus I'd rather draft a meteoric riser over someone who has stagnated or regressed their last year of college. At least you already know the guy is improving.

Solid points. The conference you play in, your competition is key IMO because it is a reflection of what you can do on the next level. It may not be everything but if you come out of such a competitive conference with those numbers and win the Heisman, it is not just a one-year wonder.  And guys that want to play on the next level need to show improvement throughout their college playing years.   I like Daniel's a great deal.

At the end of the day I want what’s best for this team and am just trying to share some insight I have but the made up bs to combat me is laughable. We all want a winner. In my humble opinion, JD5 is that guy.

Jayden Daniels is my first choice, followed by Williams, and then Penix. Daniels can add muscle to his frame to get stronger.  I am sure Washington will add an excellent strength and conditioning coach, as they overhaul the organization.  You know all of them can be busts in the NFL. There is so much to consider.

We all know about Penix's injury history. After his extensive injury history, he moved into an excellent strength and conditioning regimen and added considerable muscle to his frame while with the Huskies. NO injuries in two years. That is important.  And the reason he is 24 is because he has used all his eligibility allowance to get to where he is now.  He was smart to return to school. The guy can make ALL the throws, is very athletic, but he chooses to stay in the pocket and throw downfield. But he has the wheels if he needs to use them. He has an excellent O line. If he shows out tonight, he will get picked up closer to the top 10 IMO.  Who gives a damn if he is 24 if he can give us 10-11 years of excellent play and some Championships.

Not with 2 ACL injuries on the same knee, he will go later

He has had a lot of injuries, not just the ACL's. But he has not been injured in over 2 years. I think he will definitely go in the first if he turns out against Michigan the way he did against Texas. He is going to shoot up that board. He is a 1st round pick. We will not take him though. I agree with the majority of the posters that will either be Williams or Maye.

    Penix is too frail

He has not been injured in over 2 years. He has also put on 20 lbs. of muscle.  His conditioning is night and day with Washington to what it was in Indiana when he had those injuries. He has an incredible arm, and he is accurate. He can make all the throws intermediate, and long. And he has the wheels to get out of trouble. I like him a lot. And if not him, Daniels.  BUT with that said, I am pretty sure they will go Williams or Maye.

Compare then protection he had at both as well. His line in Washington is amazing. He would get obliterated behind this OL. At least Williams, Maye or Daniels would be able to scramble themselves into protection.

I am not 100% sure how he would do behind our line.  But I think the further he gets away from those devastating injuries the stronger he seems to get. He is two years removed now from those injuries. He definitely has wheels.  I saw that against Texas. He has the speed and explosiveness needed to create first downs with his legs and seems to have learned when to go down to avoid big hits.  Obviously if he does well on Monday, he is going to shoot up the draft board.  I can't see Washington beating Michigan, but it does not mean he will not play well.

I'm actually thinking we should draft Jayden Daniels over Caleb or Maye.    If not his injury history,  I'd like Penix over all of them.......but unfortunately he is too big of a risk.   Daniels has the potential to be an electric player without the RG3 diva......

I have read a lot of information about Penix.  He has not been injured in over 2 years at Washington. I think that is huge. There are no guarantees with any athlete entering the NFL, i.e. RG3 and Luck.

But if you compare the Penix at Indiana, who was so injury prone, with the Penix at Washington it is the tale of two QB's. His conditioning at Washington was100% better. He added 15 lbs. of muscle to his physique and became much stronger. He showed an ability to stand in the pocket and deliver strikes. He has more touch on some of his throws, which was a knock on him when he played at Indiana.

But if you watch highlights of this guy, he seems very poised, demonstrates an ability to sidestep pressure, and has a really good arm. And given what he has been through in his college career, he is mentally tough.  I hope our new GM gives him a good look.

Because you have to pay them? Why are you paying someone to be inactive most games? Very few teams carry 3 QBs on the active roster. We don't right now. And most will not sign with a team to be QB3.

What is the point in keeping Howell rather than finding a trade partner if you know he is not the guy? He got outplayed by Jacoby, nobody should even feel comfortable with him as a backup. Most people want him to start against the Cowboys and these last weeks of the season because there is a greater chance that he will lose. That means most have zero faith in him clearly.

Because Howell is on a cheap rookie contract as a 5th round draft pick that is #1. His salary is negligible in comparison to other players' salaries. If you have read the thread, which I assume you have, and watched a number of Washington's games, then you know there was little to no variation in play calling by EB. Howell was forced to throw 63%-64% of the time, and even when we ran the ball and it was working, EB never forced the D to stop, or create opportunities for a less contested downfield shot. Nope. He would just revert back to passing.  That is incompetence at best.  Even when our receivers were NOT getting separation and Howell forced the ball, EB kept passing.

So naturally you wonder if we had a more competent OC with a more balanced approach, coupled with decent O line support, etc. how might Howell work out then. Clearly, we need a competent GM/HC to figure that out.

Surely the good news for all our young players is that competent coaches are on the horizon. Yeah that’s an assumption but we have to believe things are going to be better, right?

As for Howell, he’s too young, talented, cheap & tough just to discard so nonchalantly. We’re going to need 3 QBs going into camp and there’s every reason to believe he should be one of those

I go back and forth and part of me says with a competent HC, OC, maybe even a QB coach, like Mahomes has, Sam could grow here.  Plus, he is still on a rookie deal. The other side of me says he needs a change, a better setup, but somewhere else. Maybe with McVay, backing up a proven vet. But ultimately a coach that sees the potential we saw in the beginning of the season.  I think some guys who have a tough year like Sam, have compensatory factors in their favor, such as mental toughness.

There are just so many unknowns regarding Howell, due to the ridiculous, predictable play calling of EB.  An unstable O line and the stuff we have talked about on here. But I have to admit at this juncture I am on the fence.  And I trust that a new GM and HC will sort it out.

Precisely. I think Nix's arm is being very underrated personally but I am in the minority there I realize.

I think the thing with Nix is that he is playing in an offense that is not asking him to do too much. It is not very complicated. I watched a bunch of highlights of his and it looked like a lot of screens and RPO's.  But I thought he had very good arm strength and was able to drive the ball quite well over the middle, and on the outside.

I don't know where he would go in this draft. Top of the second round? I honestly have no clue.

Based on PFF he was OK.  Lucas according to their scores though played well.

2 shoulder surgeries.  2 ACL surgeries

He has been healthy the last two years at Washington. That has to be taken into consideration. I will be surprised if he is not picked mid first round. He has made every start. An undefeated season with 35 TD's and 4,000 passing yards. It shows maybe an alteration in conditioning, and maybe an adjustment in play style.

If we fall to 3rd, trade a second for Justin Fields and draft marv. Sure up that offensive line with early picks and Cap and sign the best te in fa even if you have to over spend. The offense would be nasty

I like this idea actually. I am surprised that I agree with you....lol!

All it would take is the Pat's and us to refuse to play that game to stop it. If they trade farther back then te Cards take Harrison

This is a solid point, but if the Pat's and Commander's do not play that game, I cannot see them letting a generational talent like Harrison Jr. go to trade further back. I just can't see it.  Harrison, upgrades Field's.  He is literally that special.

If the Bears take Harrison it won't be at #1 overall. They'll either trade back to 2 or 3 because they'll know that both we and the Pats are going to take a QB. So they'll trade with whoever offers them the most, which would probably be the Pats at 3. Then they get a haul of picks and still get Harrison.

If the Bears aren't going with Williams we're likely going to have to give up a haul to move to #1 for him as you knot the Pats sure as hell will be trying as well.

Thanks. I did not consider that. Of course they would.
