College stats don't mean squat in the NFL

I was looking at the Pressure/Sack/Whatever stats and then noticed Bo Nix was sacked 5 times in 470 attempts behind Oregon's O-Line and Penix Jr was sacked 11 times in 555 attempts at Washington.

That's a sack every 94 pass attempts for Nix.

How do you analyze Williams/Daniels/Maye's numbers when compared to that?

Have to watch actually watch the tape to get a sense of how they handle pressure and avoid sacks. The numbers aren't going to tell you squat.

2022 Howell 5th rd. 1st pick > 2024 Low 3rd rd. pick per trade chart numbers?  So how did Seattle get the better deal? Value at 3rd = trade comp 3rd?  Just going by what was posted as comp per chart by others. Anyway you look at it a low 3rd is greater than a 5th.

Think you missed the if in there. 😉

You can value Howell as worth a 3rd round pick - on paper - if you're thinking a 2022 5th rounder is worth a 2024 3rd rounder. (which in reality it isn't) Or if you have Howell's value above a 5th round pick based on his play/potential. (which is obviously what Seattle is projecting)

Most people had Sam's value anywhere from a 4th - 6th round pick.

I will still be rooting for the kid even if he is a Seahawk now. He seems like a good egg.

Definitely one of the toughest QBs I've ever watched.

Dude took a serious beating and never missed a game.

    Sucks to lose Howell.

I am having difficulty determine the value gaines via the pick swap in this trade.

What does the point scale say?

On paper we traded 145.8 in draft value and received 230.8.

    So amazing for us.

But that's with Howell being worth the 144th pick in the 2022 draft. If you value Howell at a 3rd round pick or higher then Seattle got the better value.

Pains me to see every year GMs think its imperative to bring in a failed QB to show the greenhorns how to fail under the guise that it is providing stability or whatever. I would rather have a former QB as a OC assistant or QB coach.

Seems like a waste of 5M to me.  I'd rather go with 1st or 2nd year QBs as backups and tank vs Mariota pressed into duty and eek us to mediocrity and a ****ty draft pick.

They might see value in Mariota on the practice field, running the scout team and prepping our defense too.

Or maybe he was just the next QB down on their list.

Even if he did he would still be taking the hits are young QB would be taking and it would allow our young QB to develop for a year. Russell Wilson is not a bad QB. He had a pretty good year last year 26 touchdowns to only eight receptions with a 98 passer rating. He was able to compete for a wild card last year and would probably at least be able to do the same in a much weaker conference

Even if we did want Wilson, why would he want to come here? To be a punching bag and mentor for our face of the franchise #2 pick to replace him?

Just doesn't sound realistic on either side.

  7. Daniels is a great prospect and I'd be super excited to land him at #2, but its going to be really difficult to protect him.

We have no O-Line, weak WR core, non-existent TE group.... etc.

This is also basically year 1 with the new ownership group, FO and coaching. There's no way our #2 overall QB is going to start the season on the bench or in some run-heavy offense where they bring him along slowly.

If we give up a haul to move up to get Caleb and he busts while either maye or daniels succeeds we'll look like the biggest horses ass.

This is the main reason I don't see them doing it, too much risk from both a draft capital standpoint and p.r. standpoint, risk reward doesn't seem aligned.

We'll be the Panthers only much worse, not only did we give up massive capital to move up for the wrong guy but we could have had the right guy for nothing.

Just don't see them wanting to kick off this all new regime with such a big gamble.

The Panthers moved up from #9 though. That's a big difference from trading up from #2.

Value-wise moving up from #2 to #1 is a middle 2nd round pick.

Not saying CHI will trade down for the minimum value or draft value charts are gospel but it shouldn't take a haul to move up one spot.

You wont get very many people agreeing with you on this, but I will.  I look at the past few drafts in San Fran and these day two picks are amazing.

We have nine total picks right now, and WAY more than nine holes on the roster. Trading down makes sense unless you have one of these QB prospects rated as "cant miss".  I dont therefore I am trading down.

Seems unrealistic our FO won't have 1 of the top 3 QBs or Marvin Harrison Jr as a "can't miss" prospect. Trading down always sounds great, but there are diminishing returns when you are passing on quality talent.

The question for me is how does he get away with it?!?

If you, me, or any other normal American shout back at a judge like that, it's automatically a contempt charge and we're getting a timeout in lockup.

Trump has been through thousands of lawsuits and civil trials; something like 4-5 thousand in his lifetime. A normal American has been through a handful, maybe.

He's probably the foremost expert on getting away with being a jackass in court.

    Specifically… I wouldn’t give up a 1 next year.

I hear you, but then I look at this:

    2023: Forbes (16)

    2022: Dotson (16)

    2021: Jamin Davis (19)

    2020: Chase Young (2)

    2019: Dwayne Haskins (15)

    2018: Daron Payne (13)

    2017: Jonathon Allen (17)

    2016: Josh Doctson (22)

    2015: Brandon Scherff (5)

When you look at that.... its hard to really covet future first round picks. I realize we're assuming our new FO won't completely suck but its still hard.

I'd say 100% trade up for Williams and give up whatever it takes. (assuming he's atop our draft board) I have a feeling that CHI won't realistically listen to any offers and will just draft WIlliams. If we stay at #2 then Maye is the pick. To me he has a bigger bust potential and looks suspect reading defenses or going through progressions. But the hell do I know. He's got the tools and traits. Draft him. I love Daniels as dual threat QB and wouldn't hate him at #2 either. HIs weaknesses can be masked with the right offense. However, if we do draft Daniels then he's got to sit until we're confident we can protect him.

If someone offers us a motherload haul and we feel like we can get a QB in the 1st round that we like I'm trading back and making 2025 another great draft just like the Bears have done this year.

    ...

Many will argue we'll never get as high as #2 so take the QB, I say we'll never get as high as #2 again so take the King's ransome of picks and turn them into multiple pieces.

The bolded part seems unlikely though. If we trade down then what QB would we be targeting outside of Williams/Maye/Daniels?   (assuming someone is trading up for a QB)
