  1. I think the US draw looks worse than it really is. Yes it is tough, and we are gonna have to be at the top of our game to advance. But that's what the World Cup is all about. If we played ****ty we don't deserve to advance anyway, regardless of the group. The way I see it (much like Kilmer said): - we HAVE to get 3 points in the first game against Ghana. Anything less pretty much ends our World Cup ( obviously not mathematically, but theoretically) - if we are able to get three points in the first game, and can manage a tie against Portugal, we will be in good shape. I think Portugal is one of the more overrated teams in uefa. Sure, Ronaldo is a game changer who could light us up by himself. However, I have faith in kilnsmann as a tactician that he will not trot Beasley and Evans out there against Portugal, and will put the more athletic Fabian Johnson, Timmy chandler, Geoff Cameron, ect. Out there to help slow down Ronaldo. While Portugal is talented, if we can somehow slow down Ronaldo and get in his head, I think we can hang with Portugal. Although I am not a fan of jermaine jones, I would like to see him play that game just to get some hard fouls on Ronaldo and get him crying to the ref early. - luckily we draw the Germans in the third game. Hopefully they can pull out two victories in the first games and will be able to sit some players against the US. At that point, if we are in a position to need points in that game, it is at least achievable. Also, remember that kilnsmann pretty much assembled that German team. He coached them for two years, and their current coach and assistants were part of his staff during that time. He should know that team very well, and be able to prepare for them better than anyone else in the tourney. - IF we can somehow manage to make it out of the group stage, we are able to avoid teams like Brazil and Spain. While we would most likely get matched up against a tough Belgium squad, it could have been a lot worse. In the end, this could be the strongest US team that we have ever brought to a World Cup. We are a talented team that has proven in the past that we can beat teams like Spain, Italy and Portugal. It's certainly a large task to try and make it out of this group, but it is in no way unattainable. I'm still optimistic and hoping for the best.
  2. I freaked out for a little bit tonight. I totally forgot that November was the month of the backwoods **** limited release. I started scrambling, calling a few stores around here to see if they had any in stock. First three stores I called were sold out. Last store I called had a handful of four packs left. Grabbed myself a pack ( they were only allowing one per person). My night was made. Easily my favorite beer. If anyone is a fan of scotch ales / wee heavys, I would highly recommend checking it out.
  3. What do you all think about the possibility of the USA hosting the copy America in 2016 and combining the tournament to include both CONMEBOL and CONCACAF teams? The two confederations have been working about finally making this a reality, and a decision is supposed to be made on it in the near future. The tournament would include then 10 CONMEBOL teams, along with 6 from CONCACAF. If they can get make this happen, it would be a monumental tournament, and, more importantly for the executives, would be a huge money maker. And, if its a success, could possibly lead to a joint copa for years to come. One of the main issues that they are running into is the fact that right now this is not a FIFA recognized event, and this club teams would not be required to release their players, making it a tournament full of B teams. Personally, this event has upside all over it, and could only be good for the US. Not to mention, it would add another major tournament in between world cups to hold people over. I really hope this can get worked out.
  4. Getting everything together to head to RFK. Place is going to be crazy today. VAMOS!!!
  5. When I said your typical DC overreaction, I wasn't speaking about you personally. I meant this cities reaction to any loss in general. And who says they didn't show up today. It's not like Houston came out and dominated the pace and possession the whole game. We showed at times that we could be the better team. Unfortunately, though, a couple of breaks didn't go our way. The score doesn't reflect the true tone of this game. Like I said before, it is an uphill climb, but it wouldn't be unheard of to at least push this into at least OT. As BSF stated before, we are a very good team at home ( I believe we have a pretty hefty unbeaten streak at home?) and Houston is a MUCH different team on the road. RFK will be rocking on sunday, and I have to imagine our boys won't go down without a fight.
  6. ...against one of the toughest teams to play on the road in the league. If you want to talk about normal dc moments, maybe it's your typical DC overreaction. While we certainly have an uphill climb, this is in no way over. Lets hope we can get some of our injured back, including the reigning league MVP. We will have a huge, raucous crowd next week, and hopefully our boys will come out to play.
  7. Uh did you watch the game? Dc played a pretty solid game considering the circumstances. Take all the injuries and the mass amounts of mised calls and I'm surprised we didn't allow 1-2 more . We need to regroup ourselves and hope we can get healthy by next week
  8. Might be premature, but that definitely looks like a broken leg for John terry.
  9. It goes beyond the lack of offensive productivity. Our back line looked horrible and Mexico had there way during the 45. The possession had to be 65-35 during the first half. I realize that it was the first game of a new tenure, and I WAS satisfied with the outcome. I just think some of the talk about how great we looked should be a little tempured.
  10. I think you are letting a fantastic last 30 cloud your vission of what occurred in the previous 60. During the first half we could barely crack their defensive third. They easily controlled play and are definately a better team. I do realize that Juri barely had anytime to prepare for this game, and I commend him for what he got out of the players. I just don't think the result was as good as some are making it out to be. ---------- Post added August-11th-2011 at 02:38 PM ---------- Yeah shea did look real good. He has a real good combo of size speed and strength that is hard to defend. He would really benefit from leaving MLS after this season and testing out a secodn tier euro squad, but I think MLS' asking price is going to be too steep.
  11. Was a decent start to the new era. Our back line is HORRIBLE. I realize that both goodson and ream were both hurt, but we really need to find some steady bodies to put back there. I really like Lichaj, and I think he will be a peg back there for years to come, but outside of that, we are really shaky. I can't wait for Stuart Holden to get healthy and get a call up again. I think he will flourish under Juri at attacking mid. Also excited to see Timmy Chandler play in the next two friendlies in early september. I think he has a bright future, and should impress with more experience in the bundeliga.
  12. People always act like its simple to make a trade. Maybe they tried and there wasn't the right trade partner there and the value just wasnt there. We'll never know
  13. One of, if not the weakest draft of the decade... not that big of a blow
  14. good afternoon for soccer. Watching DC now, and then the national team has their biggest game since the world cup right after.
  15. This. After the clippers pulled the trigger on the baron davis trade, a source said that the sole reason they made that trade was because of how bad this upcoming class is. Per ESPN: "The Clippers would give up a likely top-10 lottery pick to make the savings happen. '"That just shows you how much we hate this draft,"' one Clippers source told ESPN.com.
  16. While alcohol is not available in qatar right now, I heard that one of the stipulations for qatar getting the world cup was for them to allow alcohol *edit* also, from a source on ESPN, apparently it's not that it is "available" in Qatar, but more friwned upon than anything. Apparently they only have oen brewing company in Qatar that distributes to the whole country. The ESPN guy stated that it is basically illegal to be drunk in public and have a drink in public, much like the US anyways. Regardless though, it should all change for the world cup in 2022. ---------- Post added December-2nd-2010 at 02:17 PM ---------- The 2022 vote had to go into four rounds of voting. Australia (shockinly in my opinion) only gained a single vote. In the end, it came down to a Qatar v. US vote in round four, and Qatar won 14-8. Heres how the complete voting broke down:
  17. When I saw this thread made that is the first thing I thought. Hell, I would travel into the city to join a league. If we could get enough people it would definatly be worth it.
  18. any progress on Bradleys move to villa? Still alive or is it dead?
  19. just had fire rock on tap for the first time at a place by my work (if anyone knows fed triangle, Arias), and it was amazing. Might be my favorite beer now. That night, I went to total wine and beverage near my house and of course, they had five different brews from the kona (sp.?) brewing company. TWAB might be my new favorite store now. Their selection of alcohol is unmatched by anything I have seen in this area. My favorite part, is the fact that out of all the beer types they have there, you can make a special pack, and get a sixer of very unique beers (they easily had over 200 different types). Not to mention their prices were A LOT cheaper than anything I have seen elsewhere. The six pack of fire rock that I got was 2 dollars cheaper than the previous time I got it.
