I agree with you and I thnk RR will want to keep and coach AP at least for the first half of the season. But once the young kids show they can stay healthy and learn the system I can't see how there will be consistent touches for AP. I would never bet against AP though, he shows up and plays hard every week. Thinking about this, the running back room is gonna be one of the most competitive in on the entire team.

This I agree with. If the younger guys stay healthy, then as the season goes on they will be the ones getting the touches. What that ultimately means for Peterson, we shall see. I just don't want them putting all their eggs into the "I hope he stays he stays healthy" basket.

  2. I disagree with that assessment. You have perennially injured Guice and Love who has never played a snap because of injury. So you are putting your faith in those two guys? Peterson is still better than Barber, even at his age. So why would they cut their only dependable and known quantity at running back? I just have no faith in Guice to stay healthy and you know nothing about Love. It's just a risky proposition to have him be the one you let go. Maybe in training camp they see something in Love and Barber plays great. So then they take a gamble on Guice, which I expect them to do anyway, and that could leave Peterson out. But at this point, that just seems unlikely.

I don’t have the link because I can’t remember what thread. But valuable insight on how little it matters who starts. Ioannidis played more snaps then Allen or Payne last year. Bottom line is we have 6 studs up front who can rotate, play multiple positions and terrorize the QB and play the run. Starts don’t matter. Overall defense does and we have a chance to be a top defense this year if RR and JDR can maximize their talents. These coaches have already said its all about developing a scheme around the players you have. All of them will get a lot of snaps and should be incredibly rested and efficient for those snaps and that’s what matters.

Yeah, I've seen that and I agree. I just don't want fans to think he's a bust or the coaches aren't using him or Sweat correctly if they don't see them out there on the first snap of the year or of any game. They are going to rotate the guys and with Del Rio I expect him to utilize their abilities to the max. It's going to be awesome to watch.

I've wondered what the plan is with Ryan kerrigan now that chase young is here. You don't sit the number 2 pick in the draft and we just drafted sweat pretty high.

I do think Ryan could play inside at times. Will be interesting to see how del Rio uses the bunch and if we will see schemes with kerrigan sweat and young on the field at the same time.

I could see Kerrigan starting the year for either Sweat or Young, but it won't last. Eventually, Kerrigan becomes a sub or a 3rd down only package guy. I was at Sean Taylor's first game and he didn't start nor did he play a lot. It takes some time for rookies to get adjusted, and you can see Sweat last year. You have to play who is better for the team at that moment. It could end up being Young and Sweat. But part of me thinks that early on, it could be Kerrigan before the younger guys just start playing better.

Ha, I suppose that is a good way to look at it.  Still, I would have liked to see what would have happened.  Feel really bad for Cowan, he had a hell of a year and it would have been nice to see him excel and lead the team to a B1G championship or run to the Final 4.

Team is going to be very different next year without Cowan and Stix more than likely declaring for the NBA draft.  Wiggins may declare as well, although I think coming back and being the #1 scoring option is best for upping his stock.  Hopefully Marial can develop his offensive skills.  Ayala, Morsell, Scott, Lindo, Serrel Smith, Hakim Hart.  Marcus Dockery is our only recruit and he isn't even in the top 175.

I love this team and college basketball.  March is my favorite time of year by far.  Sad day.

Next year will be interesting. I'm surprised he doesn't have any better players coming in. He has done a really good job recruiting talented players. Next year's class is just meh at best. They have no big men coming in, but you would expect some late signees now that the Mitchell's are gone. But how good will they really be?

Noooooooo! So wack. NCAA is next I'm sure of it. There goes the Terps chance to shine.

The good news is we get to imagine that it would have been their chance to shine. We don’t have to live through the disappointment that would have come. So now we can talk about how there best chance to win was cancelled by a virus.

  7. This sucks for him. I’m hoping it’s not a big deal, but I fear it is. I remember just a little over 20 years ago when Eric Davis had colon cancer. Maybe Davis didn’t care if people knew. But putting that into perspective and knowing how they talked about it, I fear that with Mancini it’s something worse. I just hope I’m being paranoid though.

So it IS possible? lol I think I counted 7 PP's to 1?? The referees were obviously looking for them and called some bad ones, but the dumb penalties are a problem. Nice 60 minute game for a change!

I had to go somewhere today and listened to the 2nd period in my car. It was XM, so it was the Penguins radio. All they did were talk about the calls that were missed on the Capitals. Which to be fair, I saw the Caps get away with a few things early in the game. But I also know some of these interference calls and tripping calls can be called a lot more than they are. So when it's this lopsided, they aren't looking to call it on both squads, just one. I guess when you get all the calls, you expect to get every single call. It was great hearing those crybaby announcers whine about every call they didn't get.

As a reward for his awful play and poor effort, Kuzy is out there to start overtime. I'm officially on the fire Reirden bandwagon.

I didn’t get to see the game last night since it wasn’t on here, but are they still playing the 3 Russians on the same line together? What bothers me about that is you have zero forwards who play defense on that line. None of the three are disciplined with the puck. And they are usually slow to react to get back on defense since that’s not their main concern. It would be one thing if they were such a scoring threat that they could make up for their lack of D. But from what I’ve seen that isn’t the case. I’m hoping to be proved wrong about this, but I’m not liking that Kovalchuk at all.

Gotta win tonight or they will probably be looking at a 4 seed unless they make a run in the Big Ten Tournament.

They might be looking at a 4 seed in the B1G tournament. They could potentially be in a 4 way tie for 1st heading into the weekend.

  11. Michigan St was the better team tonight. They executed offense, made shots, and played good defense. MD looked lost for the majority of the game. I was disappointed (but not surprised) that MD didn’t make a single defensive adjustment until there were 9 minutes left in the game. They started pressing the backcourt and it slowed Michigan St down. Ultimately, they still made the shots they had to make whenever MD made a run, but you could see it made a difference. Why wait until that point to do that?

MD will always get in trouble against a team that plays good defense. They don’t really run plays to get guys open. So if Cowan or anyone else can’t beat their man on the dribble, the offense is generally going to take a tough shot and hope it goes in. I know at times they do run plays, but they generally have nothing when they get in trouble and need a basket. It’s frustrating to watch at times.

  12. Izzo took Turgeon to school to start the game. It was a great rally in the middle of the half, but Michigan St just looks like they wanted it more that half.

@abdcskins, I was telling my wife the same thing on that shot by Winston. All Cowan has to do is just stay in front of him to make that shot a little difficult. It’s not a jump shot where he can adjust and make it over good defense. It’s a heave. Cowan just stood there and watched him take a good run at it like it was the halftime shot by a fan. Just stay in front of him there. What else do you have to do on that play.

  13. Huge shot by Morsell. Just huge. I was not happy for most of the game, but what I liked was that on a night when nothing went right, they showed resiliency and won. Minnesota couldn't miss early on. Maryland couldn't shoot most of the night and early on missed a ton of shots right around the basket. The refs were atrocious in the first half. It was probably the worst half of basketball they played all year. Yet they fought and fought the whole game. You can't control when some guy on the other team makes 3s when that's not his thing. You can't control when the other team can't miss. You certainly can't control the officiating, even more so when it's terrible. But you can control how you play. I'm always impressed with teams that fight through all that stuff and win. It would have been easy for them to just throw in the towel and blame the refs or just say it's Minnesota's night. But they didn't. They gave it all they had until the final buzzer. I'm still too wired to sleep.

  14. Good win for the boys today. What I really liked was all the goals in the game except 2 were gritty, hard working goals. Wilson had a beautiful skill play, and that goal by Malkin was ridiculous. I think there are about 10 players in the world who can make that play. All the rest were all about who wanted it more. Too many times, I've seen the other teams score those goals and not the Caps.  Today was one of those days the Caps were right there getting those goals.  They really needed that win today and not just for the points. But to remind them of what it takes to win these types of games.
