Maybe none of them want to be the first one to give up a hit

I’m sure that is true. Although the night he set the record, it looked like pitchers were grooving him balls to see if he could hit it. They definitely were pitching smartly to him in the 8th today. And he struck out looking on a nasty pitch that maybe barely caught the corner.

Eh, this is professional sports. It's unfortunate, but futility is not off limits. It's fair game.  If there's an interest in it, it should be shown if folks wanna watch it.

Plus, we cant assume the only interest is to see him fail.  Surely there's plenty of folks that want to see him break the streak.  It's not all just negativity.

Yeah, I was tuning in last night to see him get a hit. Even during the basketball game, I’d look on my phone to see if he was coming up and I’d flip over to the game. My feelings aside of why I don’t think he should be on the team, I don’t want to see him go through this. I’d like to see him get a hit just to get past this.

  3. 15 hits for the Orioles tonight. None for Davis. And I agree that he is watching the best pitches. I noticed that earlier in the night. He was watching pitches right down the middle.

One thing I did like. The fans were behind him tonight. Probably the biggest ovations he's had in a long time.

Analytics led by Sig are very clear about this. Sig stated that when it comes to OBP, one issue is that it doesn't give more weight to extra base hits. Therefore a single is not nearly as valuable as a home run when it comes to a power hitter. I'm not saying I agree or that diminishing power/results shouldn't weigh into an analytic equation, I'm simply saying why the O's don't do it.

Personally, I'd have him bunt against the shift every time.

I don’t know all the analytics, but I’m sure there is a point of diminishing returns. When he was hitting .230 and hitting 30-40 homeruns, then it probably is more value to swing for the fences. But hitting .150 like he did last year or being hitless this year, there is no way that is more valuable than dropping down a bunt. I just can’t believe the Orioles would be telling him to keep swinging hard when he is frequently swinging and missing.

I haven't seen many games yet, but is the shift part of the problem so far? Not that a bunt wouldn't be a good way to get a hit (like you mentioned) but is he hitting into the shift at all?

To me, it’s not if he is hitting into the shift. It’s that he’s not hitting period and if the shift is on, you have an easy hit available to you as a way to get on base.

When will Chris Davis get a hit this season?

It’s looking like it may never happen. You have to figure it will because lots of no name guys can put the bat on the ball and a hit falls every now and again.

I still don’t understand why he won’t bunt and beat the shift. Not just to get off the zero hit mark, but as an actual weapon to get on base for the team. I’m sure pride has to do with it, but after last season, he should throw pride out the window and do anything he can to improve on those historically bad numbers. Instead, he’s going the other way.

Wow! Yankees are sloppy! They suck haha.

Bases loaded balk followed by a wild pitch. O's up 3-0.

Fans cheered Chris Davis according to Thorne. And he proceeds to strike out. I hear boos.

I was wondering how they got the 3rd run. The four letter app showed the balk, but then back to back strikeouts. However it showed 3-0 even though the game log only showed 2 runs.

This is not not going to end well for Chris Davis. But I think at the point, we all just want it to end.

    AAAA placeholders.

But I think Dwight Smith Jr can be somebody worth while.  Not sure why he never caught on, he's always been able to hit a little.  Maybe because he doesnt hit for much power.  Maybe a 4th OF type on a good team, but he gets on base too much now to not have in the lineup.

Hess seems like he could be a middle/back of the rotation guy as his ceiling.  But he started out well last year too and couldnt sustain it.

I was in my car on Opening Day and they had the Yankees broadcast on. They were taking about Smith and how he could never get any time in Toronto because he was the 4th OF on a team of good OFs. They said he knew this was he shot the has been waiting for that he could never get in Toronto. I don’t know why, but when I heard that i really started rooting for the guy. Maybe because I’m hoping for one of these guys to turn into something special. He may never hit 40 HRs in a season, but he doesn’t have to. He can be Brian Roberts or Brady Anderson pre-roids (allegedly). He can be that top of the order table-setter. I really want to see him succeed.

Had an RBI walk against NY!

Had a sick pick late in the game last night to save a run in a close game. Baby steps.

I saw that play. I don’t think his defense has ever been questioned. He still plays great defense at 1st. But even Billy Ripken could hit over .200.

Haha nah missed that. I've been switching around to a couple other games.

Best I've seen Cashner pitch in a long time, maybe ever. Hitting all his spots.

He's doing it again right now. Saying it won't be long before sponsorship from the Food Network will be on it.

Nice start...  be nice if it stays hot.

Speaking of hot,, Adam Jones is cranking out homers in 'zona.

Chris Davis on the other hand is on a blistering pace to go 0-fer 2019

Gonna be sore about this for a while i think.

This one bugs me too. I always thought Jones was the best guy to teach the young guys, not Davis. But that stupid contract ruined that.

  11. The only thing better than beating the Yankees is beating them when you really suck! So many Yankees fans I know can't stand the fact that the Orioles seem to torture them more when the Orioles aren't good than when the Orioles were actually competitive. But for a few minutes at least, the Orioles are tied for 1st in the division!

And congrats to Brandon Hyde on your first MLB win!

If only there was a single guy in that lineup that I thought had potential to be anything more than average or that was worth tuning into watch.

I appreciate rebuilding, but the over/under on guys in  that lineup still on the team in 3 years has gotta be 1.

And sadly that 1 will be Chris Davis.

  13. So I guess the season is going to open with Keuchel and Kimbrel without jobs. It’s probably not a big deal for Kimbrel being a closer. But Keuchel may need a month to get ready and possibly a few starts after that to get everything working. So how does he figure someone will pay him top dollar for 3/4 of a season where he may never be right? Even if he signs a long term deal, this season could be a bust. I’m not sure this is a gamble he may win.

Yeah that was a key sequence. I didn't think there was a foul on that shot either.

Great effort by Maryland. A play here or there and they win that.

Jalen Smith needs to come back. Who knows maybe Fernando does too (probably not). I do feel like he has areas where he could improve though, mostly dribbling out of pressure.

I don't think it was a foul either. But if you grab the rebound somewhere in there, then you don't have that foul to call.
