  1. Does anybody else have a delay on Sopcast? This is the second time it's been going on. Edit: now it won't even connect me to sopcast.
  2. Chuck and Wandy are in a drought, as sad as it is, Chuck and Wandy aren't the big tests they used to be. Beating universal names quickly will get people buzzing, but to how much merit? It's just another fight that he will force to be ended quickly by diving in head-first. Have to admire his style, he goes out and wants to bang right away...but when fighters start to catch on, some of his fights might end up like his fight with Texiera. You think Arona and Nog thought this kid had the balls to attack them like that? No, he totally **** on their gameplan. I'm not that sure about Machida. He's beaten David Heath and another cake-walk guy, both by decision. He can throw, and is accurate, but he has to hope to survive the early storm by Soko. There's no KO power by Machida, and striking is his bread and butter. Soko should beat him. As far as Rampage, he isn't fighting until Spring, so I hear. So there could still be a proverbial 4-fighter tournament who's winner will get to fight Rampage. It probably will be the winner of Thiago/Houston, but Rampage's injury might add another fight to the mix. If so, who would the winner of Thiago/Houston have to fight? So many new faces, it's hard to decide who gets the shot. And waiting around will only make things more jumbled in the division.
  3. Overeem is a HW champion? Good for him, but wow. He was barely above middle of the road in PRIDE. I know Strikeforce isn't the biggest corporation and UFC is almost monopolizing MMA, but jeez.
  4. I was about to say. I didn't really understand herrmag's post. Rampage power-bombed Arona in to oblivion back when Rampage was essentially a technical brawler. This Soko guy is 4-1 people!!! Calm down! He may be the second coming of B.J. Penn but B.J. didn't have to go through a mess of talent the way this kid does.
  5. He is one calmly-arrogant S.O.B. He has straight anger problems, but the kid is a baller. He messed that guy's face up real bad last night, and still won by RNC. You see the guns on him? I don't think anybody is that jacked in welterweight. We did see John get in a few straight shots in on Mac last night, so you can hit the guy. I just think he has a really good all-around game. Looks like Hughes has a ringer.
  6. Predictions for UFC 78: Validation: Spencer Fisher vs. Frank Edgar: I like Spencer Fisher, but he gets stopped by top-tier fighters once he climbs the rankings. Frank Edgar is 7-0, and he's a wrestler. Spencer's stand-up will be too much. KO Round 2. Karo Parisyan vs. Ryo Chonan: Karo is one of my favorite fighters. This is a young guy that I personally think will one day end up in the UFC Hall of Fame. May be a bold prediction, but he is the man. If anybody can make a fight that goes to the judges entertaining, it's Karo. Most of his fights go all 3 rounds, but this one is ending in a rear-naked choke in the first round. Karo. Joe Doerksen vs. Ed Herman: Doerksen is a big-time vet. Herman should win this though. Doerksen is on a losing streak and Herman's aggressive ground skills should result in a win. Herman Unanimously. Thiago Silva vs. Houston Alexander: This has the makings of a quick fight. I can imagine these guys outside of a roadside bar throwing down at night. It's going to be very intense. I see them doing everything from throwing wild haymakers to trying to throw each other around the cage. And it will all happen very fast. Somebody will get caught in the first round. I love Houston, I want him to win, but I have to take Thiago in this one. I'm still unsure about Houston's chin. Round 1 KO. Michael Bisping vs. Rashad Evans: Everybody knows Bisping has a few iffy things about his game. He shows up more or less from moment to moment. He has excellent cardio, and can overwhelm a fighter with that stamina. But Rashad showed in his fight with Tito that he also has that perserverance. Rashad also has something I don't think any fighter Bisping has faced has had - KO power. Maybe that kid with the blue mohawk had power, but Rashad has speed, great defense accross the board, a nice ground game, along with the stamina. Rashad should take this, I expect a TKO in round 3.
  7. Yeah I've seen his past 3 fights. The fight with Glover was the third fight of his career. He put Antonio to sleep - yet I think Antonio totally misunderstood Soko's gameplan. That fight lasted 30 freakin' seconds. He's fast and pretty devistating but he seems a little wild and the past two upsets were products of fighters playing in to his game. I think Arona is a little overrated, IMHO. This Soko cat is ranked #5 on lists that I see, and it blows my mind. He's a 4-1 Pride fighter. Except for Rampage - none have faired well in the UFC. The hype is there, but look what hype has gotten people so far this year. Put him up against a Houston Alexander or even Marvin Eastman. Somebody that can bang and isn't a lay-down jiu jitzu fighter that Pride was littered with. UFC has the cats that can prove you are #5 in the world, and he might become champ one day, I wouldn't be able to tell you. But right now, I'd love to see him go in to the UFC and be matched up against the loser of Thiago/Houston Alexander.
  8. I don't know about Sokoudjou. Okay he beat Arona and a Nog brother, but he got stopped by Glover Texieria back in '06. Who the hell is he? Sokoudjou might become a great fighter, but he receives more press than I've ever seen a 4-1 guy have in any combat sport. I'm really getting tired of hearing about it and want to see him go in there. So these talks better not end up like the Fedor non-deal. He's 23, which is great if he can start tearing it up. Because the UFC needs some youth. Especially in the massively-marketed LHW division, where MMA legends are creeping up to the end of their careers.
  9. Just to update the Dana interview with Dennis Miller: It was short, and nothing was said about Randy. I didn't know this was like a real talk show. Dennis' Monologue must of been 15 minutes long. Dana was the second guest, Charles Barkley was the first. Dana talked about the emergence of the UFC mostly. He compared the serious injury factor to boxing, saying how the UFC hasn't had any deaths or debilitating injuries thus far. They promoted the fight between Chuck and Wanderlei at the end. Pretty lame interview. Dana had a Swan Song shirt on, man, that guy keeps inching up on my acceptance ladder.
  10. Man, Brock is big, but he has so many things that aren't tested. He beat some walkthrough guy. I can't sit here and say I agree with you. He might look silly with an elite fighter in there. But you never know, will be interesting.
  11. Anyway, aside from #53QBKiller riding "the how many sacks have you done for me lately" bandwaggon, Dana White is being interviewed by Dennis Miller on Versus tonight at 10:30 (tuesday 11/13). They will most likely talk a lot about Randy.
  12. Dude, I was wondering if that was you. Marcus is my favorite player! He's the man! How could you??? Just cuz of a hammy???
  13. I dunno, that backfist Kimbo's opponent threw was meant to land. Kimbo didn't even react to it besides with a semi-sidestep. If it was staged, Kimbo would have ducked it and attacked. Also, the elbow left a red mark above dude's eyebrow. I think Kimbo is just so daunting that the guy found himself on his fat stomach and realized he was out-powered. That wasn't even something you'd want to make a staged fight look like. People would rather talk about a 3 minute ass-beating than a 19 second tap out due to 2 strikes.
  14. Truthfully, I always felt the same way. I was way more excited about Kimbo fighting tonight than Diaz. I figured Diaz would win since Noon was I believe 5-2 coming in to this fight. But Diaz looked like Cro Cop vs. Chiek Kongo out there. No aggression, no gameplan, no HEART. It was a pretty lame performance. Noon, on the other hand, handled his buisiness.
  15. Diaz loses! Ref stoppage! Looked like his nose was broken + a huge cut above his eye. Nick walked off and flicked the octagon off...ha.
  16. 19 seconds! Kimbo backed away from that backfist pretty well...however much he was aware it was coming. Great uppercut to the body, great elbow, scary how he fell with that right hook in to the back of his head. Kimbo's a monster.
  17. Got some major lag with the audio on Sopcast. Antonio Silva roughed that guy up! He's a big boy, and 9-1...
  18. I hope so, StillUnknown is good at finding the channel. Hope he pops in tonight.
  19. Hmm, maybe I should see if I can't get "King of all MMA media" under my username.... Otherwise, let's go Kimbo! Let's go Nick! Who's watching tonight??
  20. UFC 80: Rapid Fire B.J. Penn and Joe Stevenson are having an interim title match for the UFC Lightweight division. Date is set for January 19th in England. Sean Sherk's hearing has been delayed again, until December 4th. Gabriel Gonzaga and Fabrico Werdum are the other fight that has been announced for the card. http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=9845
  21. That's true, he was. But I think a portion of the pre-fight trash talk is staged. They tell some of the fighters what to say, if there's no beef. Even Randy was forced to squeeze a little arrogance out for some of his pre-fight interviews. Thiago is the test for Houston. I can't help but remember how Jardine was about an inch away from catching Houston's whole chin. Houston may have learned a lot from that, or he took it with a grain of salt. He better be prepared for Thiago. If he beats him, I think we'll be seeing a man who could give Rampage some trouble.
  22. Yeah, I saw the interview with him on UFC.com, he was extremely humble. In the post fight interview after he beat Jardine, he was real intense and came off a little arrogant. But after seeing him speak, I realize it was completely "in the moment". Having to take care of 6 kids by himself is insane. How does he find time to make himself so freakin' strong...and so good at fighting! If there's one guy in the LHW division I could choose not to take a knee from, it's Houston.
