Nope. To similar to what we already have in size and skill set (I would argue he's no better than Dotson as well). I think we need someone who adds a point of difference - a real burner and/or someone with some size.

exactly.. we need a size guy.. like a 6'4 WR with speed. maybe in the draft

The high energy guy this defense needs… brings it on every down too… exactly what this team needs… intensity, drive and also a very good football player who’s noise is always around the ball… a very under the radar signing that will/should pay dividends… Whitt & Quinn are fired up I bet

Davis can also play his more natural role and wont have to think as much... this signing can also make Davis play and look much better in this D.. i am excited!

Did teams get the memo FA starts at noon?

It sounds like most teams slept through the time change

That’s surprising, just because he’s one of the only solid pieces on the line. Now we have Cosmi and nothing. We’ll be adding a lot, obviously.

Does that open up cap space? I wonder if they thought his health was only going to get less reliable as he ages

if you actually watched him play.. calling him ever mediocre is a reach. and since he is about to have hip surgery its an easy decision

I don't know how RR ran the organization into the ground when the team was already below ground lever when he arrived. He didn't do anything to help bring it up but I don't lay all the blame at his feet. Our previous owner on the other had was a complete buffoon who ran the organization into ground.

The team was below average when he joined... and was plain bad by year end 23.

We have the worst D in the NFL

    One of the worst Olines

Not a single elite player on the roster.. and only 2 players i would consider good (Curl & Robinson) from the last 4 years of drafts.

    No significant FA contributors

    Still no QB

Brought it terrible coaches that set this team back:

OCs - Turner - bad. Bienime - horrible (might have helped destroy Howell career)

DC - 4 y of this moron.. and he only fired him to save his own butt in 23

Constantly dumb statements on the podium...

A blind monkey throwing darts at a wish board could have gotten better results. Yes Snyder is a complete sh!tshow of an owner and bears much of the responsibility for the team .. but he was not responsible for most of Ron decisions (outside of Haskins).

Most everyone agrees RR is a good guy, I was rooting for him.  But he had total control of personnel and after 4 years the team is worse than the "train wreck" he inherited.  He was supposed to be the savior and he made the situation worse with his horrible draft picks and free agent signings.  If you evaluate his track record in personnel here you would be hard pressed to find a group who did worse. And that's saying something given the previous groups.

He was supposed to clean up the disfunction yet we saw every bit as much disfunction while he was here, maybe even more.  Just what did he clean up?  I know it was not him but did he really improve the culture, was it better than when Jay Gruden was the HC?  Even his own players who supposed to love him graded him a C-.

Then there were the tired excuses such as claiming they were a young team when the truth was they were league average. He clearly had no answers because, as his record indicates, he is just not a good Head Coach and HORRIBLE at personnel.  The bottom line is The was 26-40, never had a winning season, and left the team void of good young talent on affordable rookie contracts which is critical to every team's success.  This lack of good, young, affordable players will hinder this team long after he is gone.

So yeah I get all the hate, it's not personal but perfectly understandable.

The amount of Ron apologists on this forum is hilarious.. which again drives my point that we have some of the dumbest fans in the NFL.

Ron is a complete buffoon that ran this org in to the ground with his drafts, hiring decisions and public speaking skills. He is competing for the worst DC coach ever... below Zorn level. yet.. somehow its all Snyders fault.

I wanted to underscore and buttress this by saying, not only where we bad, we were historically bad, and all anyone wants to reference is the record sacks that Howell took (not the franchise altogether)

How bad was the defense?  I posted this in part of the thread I started earlier, but its relevant here:

We were DEAD last in total team defense giving up an obscene 6,612 yards to or opponents. and what's telling is only 3 other teams had to play more offensive plays on Defense.

We were also next to dead last in yards per play (5.9, to cincy's 6.0, denvers, 5.8, and Zona's 5.7, even the Hapless Giants were better than us with 5.6 yards per play.
Seattle with 1147, and Indy with 1137 (we were 1117)

We were the Tenth worse in takeways with a yawning, 18, tied with Phily, Green Bay, and New England  (Zona, KC, Atlanta, LA Rams, Titans, and Panthers all had fewer, the panthers only had 11. just wow) The point is, hardly one turnover a game.

We were 13th in Fumbles lost with 10.

We were third in 1st Downs allowed and could not get off the field with 364 Only ahed of Arizona and Seattle, (369/380)

We were 7th in Completions allowed with 396 with only Jax, Tampa, Chicago, 49ers, Eagles, and Vikings allowing more. I was a bit surprised Eagles, and 49ers were higher than us on this one)

We were dead last in Passing yards allowed with 4457, nearly a 150 above the Eagles !.

We were dead last in passing TDs allowed with 39 (4 more than Philly!)

And I had thought our Rushing D was actually decent, I was wrong, we were 6th worse giving up 2155 yards. (only the packers (2181), Giants (2251), Broncos (2331), Seahawks (2352), Cards (2434) had more.

We were 11th worse in Rushing TDs given up with 11.

pro football reference's advanced team defense has us as 7th worst in Total Air Yards per completion with 2424, 2197 YAC allowed (8th worst), and we were 6th wors in hurries with 34, 1 better than Dallas astonishingly.  7th worst in Team sacks with 39.

I could go on and on on the stats:

    https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2023/opp.htm#all_team_stats

Not just historically bad, franchise, historically, historically bad... not just in the bad for the history of the franchise, but among the worst historically in the Super Bowl Era.

yeah but....... our culture was awesome.. someone send me a superbowl ring!

Then you should try googling whether an internal interview qualify for one of the two required Rooney Rule minority interviews

you honestly obtuse enough to believe that FOs and coaches don't agree to wink nod contracts prior to satisfying all the legal requirements prior to an 'official' offer?  what are you 12?

  9. 55 minutes ago, bearrock said:

So what is the detail of this particular allegation?  Commanders had a standing offer since when?  Prior to Sunday evening violates the league hiring policy.  Prior to Monday after their interview with Weaver violates the Rooney Rule.  So either Commanders flagrantly violated league hiring rules or the standing offer was from Monday to Tuesday morning?  This is the stupid allegation you want to peddle?  Seriously?

They interviewed Bienime for HC job. I am not peddling anything.. just using this thing called google and common sense.. you should try it. its not any more or any less legitimate than what Keim said. I admire you.. you dont let things like common sense get in the way of your thoughtless drivel.

Okay mr reputation police. Apparently you got the market cornered on what's considered reputable? I hear Taylor Swift wants at threesome with Mohomes and Kelce can you double check that for me big boy?

There are no credible reports they made an offer to EITHER Johnson or Macdonald (and let's please spell the guy's name correctly.)

Do you know why there would be no credible reports of this?

    1. Because absolutely NOBODY would let that information out, whether true or not.

    2. There is NO WAY you're hiring a head coach BEFORE you have an in-person interview.  You're not making an offer based on an hour long zoom call for a contract probably worth $50 million dollars and 5-6 years of commitment.  It's not going to happen.

    3.  Johnson canceled the interview while they were flying to see him, so they hadn't met in person.

    4. Ergo, they never made an offer to Johnson

    5. They wanted to interview Johnson and Aaron Glenn on Tuesday.  They can't have made an offer to Macdonald until after that.  However, Macdonald could have gotten an offer from Seattle, because he talked to them and they didn't have any other interviews lined up, they talked to Johnson on Monday.

You're talking yourself into a situation that didn't exist because you didn't like the candidate they ended up with.

Not liking the candidate is fine.

Coming up with or believing categorically false stories is dangerous.

    \

Kind of a dumb argument... "there are no reports that an offer was made, because no one would admin to it"   well... there are no reports that no offer was made so it must be false.

    Here is one...

nobody here know anything about what's actually transpired, we're all guessing based on crumbs we can find on the internet. Then there are 'save face' stories written specifically to cover FO behinds so they dont look bad, so please dont be so naive as to think that any story written post fact by team paid reporters is absolutely true. You can choose to believe whatever you want.

#2  They had a pool of candidates and waited to interview them all.  There were reports all long that indicated Johnson wasn’t a slam dunk and that they really like Quinn, even though folks didn’t want to hear it.  That is not seemingly all over the place.

#3  What exactly do you expect to see all of six months into ownership and less than 1 month into Peter’s being GM?

I need to donate my screen name to one of you guys.

    Disagree...

They made an offer to both Johnsons and Mcdonald. Johnsosn wanted too much money and Mcdonald chose Sea (we dont know the reason)

To mee it reeks of lack on unified visions and understanding of what they want..

    1. They should have known Johnsons price early on instead of wasting time and waiting until all other Good OCs got picked up.

    2. If they are going after O coach and see value there.. then had to switch to D coached because no good OCs were left.

    3. In the end had to settle for a retread that while having a good D in Dal, underperformed in the playoffs consistently .. and now trying to sell everyone on how "respected and good he is) ala Rivera 4y ago.

  12. One things is becoming somewhat painfully clear....

    1. Wash was not this cant miss, amazing, #1 option for Head Coaches (even with Harris and Peters here)

    2. HC search seemed to be all over the place and they had to settle for the (at least from what we know now) #3 choice.

    3. Beyond being a  better person... so far, i have not seen much from Harris/ Peters that tells we have a much more apt FO ... i guess time will tell

True but as to Ron its about being a nice guy, classy guy.  It's usually not about being a great X's and O's dude.  Heck even in Carolina's heyday for their defense it was about their coordonators including McDermott not so much Ron.  Quinn isn't hailed as a nice guy alone -- but for his motivational skills-X's and O's.

Again one major diference with Ron is Quinn has killed it as a coordinator in the modern NFL.  It's cool that Ron killed it as D coordinator in 2008 in SD.  But times have changed.

Logan Paulsen talked about this defensive scheme when he was an employee of Ron.  So when some say Logan is biased.  Yeah you figured he'd be biased for his current boss not his ex-boss.  And during the season he talked about how "meh" the scheme was as to movement on the D line, marrying pressure with coverage among other things.  It didn't come off like he thought it got miles better when Ron took over.  As Rex Ryan joked when Ron took over the defense, the "improvement" was they were giving up 35 points a game.

Logan talked about model schemes as for stunts and moving guys around on the d line and cited Dallas.  Said he didn't think Parsons would be as big if he were playing here because Quinn knew how to create mismatches and this defensive staff not so much.  He talked about all the turnovers created by Dallas which he cited to in part because of how coordinated their scheme was to their pressure packages -- unlike this team.

    https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/new-commanders-coach-dan-quinn-brings-leadership-washington-has-needed-for-years

He's undoubtedly a defensive whiz. He was the defensive coordinator in Seattle during their Legion of Boom years, when they ranked No. 1 in the NFL and reached the Super Bowl (winning one) in each of his two seasons (2013-14). When he was hired by Mike McCarthy to coach the Cowboys defense in 2021, that unit quickly went from 28th in total yardage to seventh, and it's ranked fifth in each of the last two years.

But it's not just his schemes that got his players' attention. They always played like they were willing to run through a wall for Quinn.

it was probably more of a knee jerk reaction on my end to the hiring.. but it just sounds SO MUCH like the the rhetoric around the Ron hire 4y ago.

'great guy and leader of men"

'well respected by players, agents and coaches'

    'great D mind'

    'great culture guy'

    etc.

i dont care about any of that! That's the sh!t they print to sell stories to ignorant fans.

    1. If he is truly a hands-on, innovative DC... i expect him to run the D or at least be heavily involved. he should be able to find the right mix of personnel and scheme to help our D perform on an at least avg level and get the most out of the garbage draft players Rivera left us with

    2. its now imperative they find a hot shot innovative OC to pair with Quinn, not some old retread hired through nepotism.

    3. Have peters work the draft and FA to find some gems

The next few days will be very interesting.

  15. Did Harris and Peters use Bruce Allen as an advisor on coach search? what a sh!t show of a hire! Literally the exact opposite of what we need. let me guess... these geniuse's next move will be to retain Bienime as OC.

They get a18 advisors and Dan fockin Quinn is what you get (after he gets ripped by Parsons for terrible D in the playoffs)
