Post any previews of the 2024 Commanders season here and debate any previews posted in the thread.

I will open it up with The Franchise Guy who ranks the Commanders as deadlast in the NFL (but his previews are always informative)...

Dont agree on O line... Gates was so bad he lost his job middle of the year. new center, and LG. Leno was overrated at LT and Lucas can pretty much replace Leno, his biggest issue is staying healthy. Daniels by default will make the O line look better just by hopefully getting rid of the ball faster. Howell can be blamed for at least 50% of the O line struggles. Plus i expect the team to bring in another veteran for LT competition.

  2. I refuse to believe that Doctson went from pretty good rookie year to be being below average overnight. much more apt to blame Bienimes idiotic Offensive scheme/ game plan and general teams ineptitude under Rivera. The team pretty much gave up.

I am looking for a big time rebound from Doctson. Forbes i am less optimistic about.. but i hope Quinn can. at least make his serviceable.

Wiley was a below average starter in KC.. and has gotten worse here with less talented players around him. I'd move him to guard maybe or promote him to towel boy

why is there this constant need to defend and make excuses for Rivera... <clip> yada yada repeat of stuff that everyone already knows...

    I love the passion!

Just question your comprehension of my original posts intent. 🙂

That could well be my fault, in that I could have explained my position in a way that you might have understood it better. I'll briefly attempt to remedy that now.

I didn't intend, as you put it, to defend or make excuses for Rivera?

I understood your post just fine...and it wasn't aimed at only you.. but also other posters who tend to defend or explain away Rons mistakes.

We all know he was basically a decent guy (but a poor coach) who was stuck in a nearly impossible situation.

He tried valiantly m, but ultimately ineptly, and like so many others before him, he eventually succumbed to Snyder's inertial damping field that became the ruin and final resting place of many sterling reputations and careers.

    .

It sounds like you're putting most of the blame on Snyder.. and while i agree that working for Snyder was no cakewalk.. it was not an "impossible situation" you make it out to be, and Rivera made his own bed with his own decisions that had little Snyder influence.

Branding part of it but Id guess lack of star power is part of it.  RG3 for example sold a ton of jerseys.  With the early hype, Chase seemed to have a lot of jersey sales judging by training camp.

But especally under Bruce-Ron there was so little star talent.  If Daniels has some early success I bet he sells.

I am puzzled that Philli fans spend so little on alcohol. Its either a misprint or are they sneaking beers inside their boots?

Every time I see it I laugh at it, like we all do.

Then I start to think how sad, frustrated, and unfulfilled Rivera must feel inside to have publicly said it in the first place and while I don't exactly feel sorry for him, it does give me pause.

why is there this constant need to defend and make excuses for Rivera on this board like he is a bullied kid in the play yard?

he didn't step in to a good situation with a crappy owner.. true, but everything else is his own doing!

    1. Generally idiotic statements in the media and in the press, that frankly intelligent GMs just don't do

    2. Criminal roster contraction and management

    3. Atrocious drafting all around

    4. Terrible hiring decisions of coaches and then giving them too much control

    5. idiotically blind loyalty to players and coaches that didnt deserve it (cheeseman ring a bell?)

He was SO bad as a GM/HC that that i can not find a single positive from his tenure here. This might be an unpopular opinion in this new whiny/ ****y world we now live in, but i also dont accept the "oh but he had cancer" excuse.

If battling cancer was effecting his ability to make proper decisions that much and he is truly the stand up guy that media makes him out to be .. then he should have retired for his own benefit and for the benefit of the team.

I also feel that the whole notion that Rivera is at least a "nice guy" overblown. Not that i really give a crap... Coaches arent paid to be nice guys, they are paid to win. The "nice guy" notion is probably propagated by the players that he keeps on the roster that have no business being there... and the GMs that rake Rivera over the barrel on trades, hang up the phone and then high five each other on how they once again took advantage of this buffoon.

But no, by all means... give him a participation trophy along with the ~30mil in salary that he got from the team and make excuses for poor old Ronnie

Jax cut Zay Jones after drafting Brian Thomas.

Interestingly SF wanted a first rounder plus Zay Jones off Jax for Aiyuk.

they also  cut Slye... apparently we are not the only ones who thought he sucks

  7. If we could get Aiyuk for a 3rd and give him a good contract (25-28mil/ year)  .. i'd go with that!

Terry is only here for one more year anyway.. team has an out after 24 with only an 11mil cap hit.  So you would have both him and Terry for a year, and then rid ourselves of Terries contract.. and if 24 goes well, it will be a late 3rd round pick.

You waste at least half if not more of the rookie deal, and as mentioned, Penix isn't just old, he's exceptionally old, approaching Brandon Weeden/Hayden Hurst level of stupid considering how old he is.

I really liked Penix as a value choice when I thought you could get him round 2 or later in round 1, using a top 10 pick on him was asinine, using a top 10 pick when you already gave Cousins the bag, hell multiple bags, is beyond stupid. If it was JJ, it would still be stupid, but at least he's young and with clean medicals throughout his career. Instead you have an old, overage prospect with med flags out the yin yang, who will be 26 before he starts year 3. Its crazy pills.

There's a reason the NFL looked at Atlanta and just shook their head in shock, repeatedly like the notorious old raider and jet first round foul ups. People were arguing over the weekend on whether it was literally the worst draft pick ever when all things are considered. It's a good contender but there's worse, for sure.

That pick was beyond stupid. its hilarious watching some of the mediots try to explain away the reasoning when its obvious they themselves dont even believe it was a good pick. Of course watch Cousins get hurt in the first game ala Rogers and Penix light up the NFL as Atl FO will he hailed as geniuses for their foresight

He is like a better looking Sam Howell .. score!

  10. Lucas is actually decent at LT... he even plays well at times. The issue with him was that when pressed in to a full time role, he cant stay healthy and now at 32 that will be an even bigger issue. Leno was overrated as hell, Lucas might actually be an improvement. I think we have enough pieces (including those drafted last year) and Olineman i expect the team to yet bring in, to put together a half way decent OL. We might be in for a lot trial an error lienup changes early in the season though

2 second or 3rd next year get it down?

Just because Niners want a 1st for Aiyuk does not mean they get anything close to that. Keenan Allen (who is much more accomplished) was traded for a 4th rd pick. I wouldn't give anything more than a 3rd for Aiyuk but dont see it happening since we are already paying Terry 20mil/year and this is a deep WR draft.

  12. I doubt Wash will find a starting LT In the draft this year. I would bet they do find a veteran after the draft or after cut downs at least for this year and try to develop a guy.

    Current FA options are:

    Bakhtiari

    Duane Brown

    Danavon Smith

    ......Not too inspiring

  13. I think Pats are in a good spot. They brought it Brisset with the idea that he will most likely start and keep them competitive in 24, so at worst they are looking at a mid round pick in 25(which wont get you a franchise potential QB especially in a weak QB class) Maye gets to sit for a year and learn/ improve his mechanics and then Pats get to reload in 25 with a O heavy draft to set them up for years to come.

This team sadly isn't 1 QB away from being good. And I understand that finding a franchise QB is tantamount,  but they also have a chance to do something now that they likely won't be able to do in the near future. Set themselves up to make multiple first round picks for several years.

To me, the only way forward is to trade out of pick 2.

That said, if it's Daniel's at 2. Good for them. If it's Maye. Good for them also.

Thats the kind of thinking that got us to where we are now... is that you Ron?

  15. I disagree with Keim, its ridiculous to think that this FO was not ~80% sure which QB they are targeting at #2 before a single visit or combine. The rest of the time was used to just confirm that decision and look for any major red flags.. that decision should have been hopefully confirmed as i haven't heard anything bad about Maye.  Most of the info is already out there via game tape and not based on a 30min scripted combine work.

And none of these pundits know anything... because with a solid and professional FO this info does NOT escape. What FOs do is disseminate misinformation with a the hope of some dumb GMs listening and letting players slip. Which sounds like the campaign against Maye over the last few weeks.

One thing i do know.. with the moves from this org so far I am just 'cautiously neutral' and after watching idiot Ron fumble through the draft over the last 4 years this FO has to knock it out of the park in this upcoming draft to set this franchise up big for years to come.

Houston will have a first place schedule. I doubt they repeat the success they had last year. Wouldn’t surprise me, if this miss the playoffs this year.

I think you'll be disappointed... Texans are a legit contender. They got better across the board while already having a great coach, two of the top young WRs in the NFL.. not much of a running game in 23.

Now have a much improved D and Mixon at RB, Diggs, etc.  Unless Stroud completely falls off in 24 all of a sudden for no reason... they have a real shot to get deep in the playoffs.

Terry might not be living up to his current cap number.  He doesn't take over games, and he can disappear at times.  A 20+ mil WR should have a bigger impact despite the poor QB play.

However, I think Terry is perfect for our situation right now.  He is a hard worker, with a positive attitude.  With so many star Wrs being divas and head cases and me me me, he is the exact opposite.   Team first.  Does his job without any ****ing and moaning or drawing negative attention to the team.  Even at our lowest points, which have been pretty low.

His cap hit is not prohibitive to us building our team at all.  Over the next couple years, hopefully we are able to add a #1/#2a WR via the draft.  That contract will be modest, and Terry's next deal will hopefully be with us for a little less AAV.  I can see him wanting to stay here to see the rebirth through.  And he will be the perfect #2 wr and mentor to a young WR due to his personality and demeanor.

I don't see any team offering us any package that would make it worth sending Terry packing.

I'd rather have Terry at his cap number than all 5 wrs you listed for a variety of reasons, most importantly the ones I mentioned above.

I wouldn't say he is perfect for our situation but agree that he is not a detriment to a rookie QB or the team and he is the best we got, it can always be worse .... Issue is that while we have Terry under his current contract we will not sign a true 1A type WR because paying 2 wrs 20+ mil per year WILL be a detriment to our cap. Bears seem to be OK with that though since they are paying Allen and Moore 20+ mil each. Time will tell if this was a worthwhile investment. Unless Skins have a plan to bring in someone better.. i dont see him being traded and nobody is stupid enough to give even one 1st rd pick for him. I would shift my focus on finding that Keenan Allen type WR in the draft though.
