For real. ---------- Post added January-7th-2011 at 01:49 PM ---------- Because Mayhem would be a step down and isn't even in his division. Mayhem needs to win a fight or two before he earns a shot at Diaz.
  2. I LOVE this tournament, but I agree that they messed up the brackets. Even the first round of fights are off. This is how I see it and what I would have done: Seed them. #1 Overeem (he's their champ) #2Werdum (on strength of beating Fedor. Can't have Fedor seeded higher coming off that losss) #3 Fedor #4 Barnett #5 Silva #6Rogers #7 Arlovski #8 Khartinov That's how I see it, but unfortunately that gives us too many rematches, so I'd mix up the bottom 4. Make Arlovski #8 so he gets The Reem. Give Werdum Rogers. Keep Fedor Silva. Barnett gets Khartinov.
  3. Takanori Gomi vs. Clay Guida: Guida is a bad matchup for Gomi. He won't give Gomi the space and time to land the KO punch he got on Griffin. He will puch the pace, lean, takedown, rinse repeat until Gomi gives up or it goes the distance. Guida by Decision Nate Diaz vs. Dong Hyun Kim: I threw Diaz in two parlays. This guy always loses when I pick him and always wins when I don't. Kim's wrestling scares me a little, but Diaz should be able to take care of a guy like Kim if he wants to take the next step. Diaz by Sub Thiago Silva vs. Brandon Vera: Vera is done, and I'm a big fan of Silva Silva by KO Chris Leben vs. Brian Stann: Stann is Leben-lite. I don;t see any advantage he has over Leben. I bet big on Leben. He will be victorious! Leben by KO Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard: Can't really add much to the discussion here. We all know their gameplans. I think Maynard's wrestling and power will be the difference in enough rounds to eek out a win Maynard by Decision
  4. Overeem is a great fighter. I see him like I do my boy Nick Diaz. He has proven he can dominate the right matchups, but has yet to prove himself against a takedown machine. Overeem can knock anyone's block off with one shot, but he hasn't shown the ground work for me to bet on him against Cain, Brock, Fedor, or maybe even Shane Carwin. It is too bad it looks like he isn;t willing to give up K-1 which means he won't ever sign an exclusive UFC contract despite his good relationship with Dana.
  5. No Frabricio Werdum? /sarcasm. Seriously, I looked at their rankings a few days ago, and they have Werdum 2nd (I think. Don't want to look again) in the heavyweights. Ridiculous.
  6. Really? Did the fight change your mind at all? I'll be betting on Pettis when that fight comes up. I think Henderson is going to do just fine in the UFC too.
  7. Hate much, NoCal? Kos is another overrated Zuffa fighter? Who outside of the UFC could beat him at 170? Paul Daley? I'll take my boy Nick Diaz, but I'll take him over anyone not named GSP. You're right that his gameplan sucked, but I credit GSP for some of that. He always makes it look like his opponent's gameplans suck. Glad you didn;t pay for it? It was an awesome card! Almost all finishes, and the main event was a text book ass whooping. I've hated on GSP for his lack of finishing as much as anyone, but I credit him big time for his fight last night. He showed why is in the conversation for best p4p of all time. He has such great and precise gameplans, and he executes them perfectly. GSP said if he moves up it would take him time to add the proper weight and he would do it to stay up. Not just for one fight. I think he is too small for 185 and too small for Anderson. If the super fight happens I would hope it would be a catchweight at 178. Anderson is probably too big to make that weight though. Like I said, He is too big for GSP. I don't need to see that fight to compare the greatness of those two fighters. I don't think it would really tell us anything. They are both two of the best fighters of all time, and that is good enough for me. GSP has Shields next. If Fitch beat Penn, we'll probably see GSP-Fitch. Meanwhile if Condit gets a couple quality wins, he'll be in line. By then maybe someone will be dominating 155 so much that they can move up, or GSP can move down. GSP has a lot of "show" muscle. He can lose that if he wants and drop down easier then moving up, imo. Anderson has Vitor, then Okami, then a Sonnen rematch. Plus, I loved seeing him at 205. I am much more interested in seeing his matchups up there then GSP at a catchweight or at 185.
  8. Mark me down as not wanting to see Diaz take a step back to fight Mayhem who is trying to talk his way into a high profile fight. Diaz is an elite fighter. He should waste his time with Mayhem.
  9. And I'm glad about it. I love Rogan, and I love that the UFC doesn't have to tippy-toe around PC BS. They present their product, and that's it. Get on board or get out of the way.
  10. Maybe I'm wrong, but can;t judges score it 10-10 if they want? I think they should score any round where nobody does damage or causes danger 10-10. Somewhere Jake Shields is weeping........ Ok, we know where. 209! I don;t think 170 is a good weight class for BJ. 155 is his if he wants it. Edgar is a bad style matchup, but not as bad as the 170 pure wrestlers. He should take the fight to Edgar, go for takedowns, press the action, not let him dance around and he can win that fight. Or just wait for Maynard to beat him, then beat Maynard.
  11. Dana announced George S. vs. Dennis Siver for the Australian card in Feb. AND Penn vs. Fitch on the same card. That should be a real test for Penn ad his wrestling defense/cardio. He loses this one he should stay at 155 for good. Great to see such a quick turnaround for Penn.
  12. Pride rules: Machida wins Boxing commision 10-9 system: Rampage wins
  13. Where was that Machida the first couple rounds though?
  14. Is that 3 "elusives"s before the fight even started?
  15. That post was before the stoppage, btw. Worst ref in the business. I guess that was a good stoppage though.
  16. A little late, but I'll take: Simpson by TKo in the 3rd (probably over before I'm done typing) Brown by Sub Harris by decision Davis by GnP Lauzon by...... someway or another. I don't like Sotiropolis. He's was a dick on TUF Penn by RNC. He's back!!!!!! He has to be or he's done anyway. If Hughes can control him at this stage of his career, anyone at 170 can and enough guys at 155 could as well. Penn will stick and move, drop Hughes, and sub him. I am very excited for this one. Rampage by KO. I was thinking Machida all month, but now I keep picturing Rampage catching him once and KO'ing him. Rooting for a Machida finish though.
  17. The magic of editing! http://www.mmamania.com/2010/11/5/1795808/maybe-kos-isnt-such-a-bad-guy-after-all
  18. Love the merger news. The free cards are going to get much better. And backing up a bit, put me in the camp that doesn't get the Lesnar hate. The rodeo stung was years ago and it was funny. His Mir thing was a little overboard, but I think Mir deserved it. Mir was the punk in that situation, and he got beat down and called out for it. I'm glad Brock did that. He is a brutally honest dude who is used to put himself out there. He is a hard working family man with incredible athletic attributes. He is constantly doing everything he can to maximize his potential. And how good did he look until Cain popped him and sent him flailing around? He looked like a welterweight flying around in there. It is too bad he didn't jump in this sport sooner. Hopefully it isn't too late to learn how to take a punch and move forward instead of cover and flee. He has the wrestling instincts to latch on when he gets in trouble, but so far he has reverted to doing Brockwheels when he gets hit instead of grabbing on and recovering.
  19. That 2nd round is tough to judge. Kammann dropped Shields twice, but Shields out grappled him, though it was without inflicting any damage. And we get it, Rogan. Shields is a good grappler. I love you, Joe, but give it a rest.
  20. Shields is going to lose a point for grabbing the shorts and this is going to be a draw.
  21. Really disappointing round for Kampmann. He finally got separation and didn't throw anything.
