If Maye played for LSU would you be pulling for him to be the #2 pick?

I was a huge JD5 hater his first season. He wouldn’t trust the receivers and would pull it down and break off for a run when he had the open man. He showed flashes of what he could be against Florida and Bama his first season. I took him to win the Heisman after the second game of last season because he just looked completely different. I’ve experienced a lot of **** QB play between LSU and the Skins. Burrow and Daniels are the two best I’ve seen. He is going to be elite.

  2. If anyone is worried about Jayden’s weight, worry no more! He’s posted him eating a waffle for breakfast and now just posted him chowing down on Buffalo Wild Wings. Guess he’s sponsored by Bisquick and B Dubs now  weight gain szn [ON]

I asked John Beck, who trains Jayden Daniels, about Daniels' weight and if it will be an issue in the NFL: "When you see his frame it’s easy to add weight to it. You don’t want a guy with his athletic ability to be 220. That takes away something from him. He’s probably always going to be on that leaner side because of his game. But his frame he can put weight on. He’s going to progress as he gets into his 20’s. if you stand side by side with Jayden or put him next to others, you can see that weight is going to be added on as years go. As long as he can maintain his size and speed as he puts on weight that’s going to be amazing."

Brace yourself for resurgence of recently departed folks who will post as though they are far more JD enthusiasts than Commanders fans and some size of urge of newcomers doing the same. Those who have been here awhile will know whereof I speak. 😄

It's interesting that for the longest time Maye was seen more as a "different but generally equal" prospect to JD but recently is apparently more thought of as  someone distinctly a step down and "not that close to JD" as a #2 pick, specifically.

I thought at first it was kinda weird we had such an influx of "highly enthused" (avoiding the negative term "fanboy" ) but none for Maye. But I soon figured it just reflected how much more fans followed the LSU program/games.

Man. It's hard to wait for #2 to happen tonight, but then it's going to be really hard waiting for tomorrow and (who knows yet for sure how many) really important picks  in round 2 & 3.

    😬

I would’ve been banging the drum for Burrow too 😉 but we took a QB a draft early. Thanks Dan!

If we select Daniels the evaluation will have been has both experienced and potential. There is certainly a case he has the highest ceiling of all the QBs in this draft and certainly everyone after Williams - I’m not sure I agree but I can see the argument.

I see Daniels as a I guy with a high ceiling and a low floor. He’s not the safe pick because he’s got the most experience IMO.

    My humble and homer take:

ceiling-slightly less running Lamar Jackson that can actually beat you with his arm and accuracy (takes the league by storm)

    floor-Tyrod Taylor

    Yeah, no. 😉

And an ancient ES proverb from The Lost Pages of the Book of Jumbo: "Never confuse what you want with you being wanted." 👹

    (Of course I do 😛)

(But is this one of those times?)

Gotta give an OG like me some credit. Been here for a long, long time. The Tailgate offered me so much wisdom and advice during my younger years. Some of the old regulars like sarge, you, bubba (rip), die hard, orangeskin, skinshokiefan, etc.

There are literal "highlight" videos of him getting smacked around looking like a Looney Tunes character. Great vision means you can angle and position yourself to minimize damage taken. Lamar Jackson is excellent at this.

His 8 YPC is because he has incredible straight line speed and was great at destroying bad college defenses that were in bad coverages that he could take advantage of.

Dude, no just no. didn’t you also say he lacked elusiveness too? Believe what you want to believe but his film says otherwise.

His vision as a runner isn't great though. That's why he gets plastered so often. He doesn't have that sixth sense eyes on the back of his head like the truly elusive elite running QBs have.

I'd rather he focus on just being a great passer first second and third, with his legs as a bonus to pick up cheap first downs here and there and if the defense really effs up pick up an easy 20+ yarder here and there.

How many times did he really get plastered this season? That’s a false narrative that his vision is poor. You don’t average over 8 ypc while rushing for over 1000 yards with poor field vision.

I thought he played a great game *under the circumstances* - against a tough defense that's going to see 3 guys go in the first round tonight, and at least one more in the second round, and even more in later rounds, in an extremely hostile environment.  Daniels did whatever it took, which meant running more while Nabers/Thomas battled with Arnold/McKinstry. Thought he generally played pretty smart ball there. But yes, did see some meh throws.

Jayden was doing what he needed to do to keep LSU in that game with an all time terrible defense trying to stop Milroe and co. He was putting up video game numbers against Bama until code red was called by Saban.

ESPN’s Mike Greenberg asserts that the reigning Heisman Trophy winner from LSU may not be on the Commanders’ radar when everything is said and done.

That’s a dangerous game ESPN bet is playing. Jayden is up to -1000 from -500 yesterday. Not sure where they’re getting their odds from.

eta that post is from April 19th a lot has changed since then, but odds don’t mean anything apparently

Show me one JJ scouting report that says the words poor, decision, and maker in the same sentence.

    ill wait…

I said he’s the worst decision maker of the top four, which he is…but here you so go since you asked..straight from NFL.COM

Said an AFC executive: "He's got arm talent. He's fast. He is a smaller man, so you worry about the pounding. I don't think he's a good processor. [Though he] actually got a good S2 (cognitive test score); I'm surprised he took it because nobody's taking it. Look, I don't penalize him like a lot of people do -- 'Well, they only threw the ball f---ing eight times in this game.' They've done that forever. What I don't like is you can watch a play and you can tell, OK, they're going to this guy. And if the defense calls it, they've got it covered, he will f---ing wait and wait and wait and wait and start moving around and moving around and he is throwing it to that f---ing dude. You're like, Goddamn, look somewhere else! And he's athletic, so a lot of times he can do it. I think there's some miss factor, but there's some upside."

You should read up some more on the QBs this draft. There’s some good material out there.
