We need a thread where we post theories about where Predicto's been for two years.

I've been making sure that I kept my employment.  Educating you ladies and gentlemen had almost become a full time job, and I had to quit cold turkey in order to keep my posting under control and get my work done.  I had tried half measures before and they never worked.

  2. I do not doubt the sincerity of anyone's beliefs, but I strongly suspect that if the same people who firmly and sincerely believe in Christianity had been born in rural India rather than the USA, they would just as firmly and sincerely believe in Hinduism (or Islam).  In my view, if God exists, he will treat those people exactly the same as Christians when the time comes to judge their worth.  If salvation can only come to those who were raised in the correct faith, the system is fundamentally unfair - and fundamental unfairness is the anthesis of the alleged perfection of God.  In my view, if you are going to go monothestic and be fair to everyone in the world, you gotta end up with something like Bahai.

I also have specific difficulty with the "Old Testament vs New Testament" God argument put forth by Evangelical Christians.  If God is eternal, all knowing and perfect, then there is no way he could ever have let himself be the raging jerk of the Old Testament.   The Old Testament must be allegorical, because there is no other way to reconcile the behavior of that angry jealous murderous old "god" with the attributes of the One God as discussed by Jesus Christ.  Yes, I know that there are Christian apologetics who try to reconcile that problem away, but their arguments are entirely self-referential.  In other words, these arguments are only going to satisfy you if you desperately want them to be true.

Like several other people, I want to emphasize that I am not trying to make anyone else lose their faith.  I am just explaining some of the thought processes that led me to lose mine.  Frankly, it's God's fault - he made me as a rational being that feels the need to try and reconcile all this stuff.

  3. Raised catholic.

Agnostic now.  I'm pretty sure that the details of all the the various religions are wrong (especially the ones that claim that their interpretation of their own writings somehow proves that their religion provides the EXCLUSIVE way to salvation),

but there may be something greater out there that is beyond our comprehension and may have created this universe and may have a plan for us that we don't understand.  I just don't know and I don't expect to know in this life and I'm pretty sure that no one else can tell me, either.

Harden is the MVP and it isn't close.  The Rockets have answered pace and space by putting together the best over dribbling back court in the NBA.  It's worked ONLY because Harden is an unstoppable isolation player.

    Globalist (Establishment) versus Nationalist (Patriots)

Its not real hard to see if you already decided what you believe and refuse to listen to anyone except those that tell you what you want to hear and you have no ability to understand how you are being manipulated

    Fixed that typo for you

  6. Putin isn't killing people in Britain because he wants to intimidate Britain.  Britain is a sideshow.

He is killing people in Britain to send a message to people like Manafort and Stone and Kushner and Nunes (along with every Russian who knows anything) that they all better keep their goddamn mouths shut, because no one is safe if they turn against Russia and spill the beans.  Vlad can get you and Vlad will get you, no matter where you are.

Granted, I'm certainly not the most informed person on this subject.  But I sure don;t remember reading any authoritative source announcing that Russia believed, prior to the election, that Trump stood a chance of winning the Presidency.

(At least, not immediately prior to the election.  Maybe they thought he stood a chance, five years before the election.)

that seems entirely irrelevant to me, whether Russia thought Trump would win or not.

That all sounds good! How did you find Thailand? The monsoon runoff had bleached almost all the reefs when we went. Did you dive Sail Rock in the gulf of Thailand? The sheer number of fish there is literally barely believable!

Thailand was one of my earliest trips - over 20 years ago, and we only did a couple of dives off of Phuket.  I can't remember the specific locations.   I do remember a ton of lionfish the size of basketballs, and a lot of giant clams.

Ya, but in their early ABA days they were getting into the playoffs almost by default because 80% of the teams made the playoffs even while hovering around .500.  I have no idea how to count that, but it reminds me of the Steelers who even though they have 6 rings now certainly didn't busts out the gate guns blazing versus being good an eventually sucking.  If you think I'm wrong, that's ok, but just say it, because I get where you're going with this.

    You're wrong.  :)

I don’t think it is severe injury. 2 games isn’t bad. The Portland game will be tough, Dame is nice.

More like 2 weeks, I suspect

I liked that they were able to beat the Spurs without Curry, Igoudala, West, McCaw and Bell.  The ballhandling was stagnant but they did ok.

I could've added the Celtics, too, technically, but that's how many teams out of all the 4 major sports?  Spurs and Celtics have had down years, too, years they didn't make the playoffs or worse.  Prolonged suckattuide is something they still have plenty of time for (exhibit A: the New York Yankees)

Spurs had one losing season in the past 30 years - and that got them Tim Duncan.

Your team will suck again, we all do eventually.  Yankees have 27 championships, but look at their record between '65 and '94.  One of the few exceptions I can think of are the Lakers, but they're in the longest playoff drought in their history.

except the goddamn Spurs of course
