Why do people keep saying it's about tweets?  It was at a press conference for the team.  THEN he doubled down on it.  THEN someone stole his phone and published his "apology."

Yeah, it's about saying it while wearing the uniform while he was acting in an official capacity. Lots of businesses restrict what you say publicly when you are representing them.

I have to be somewhat careful in my postings on social media with my current job. Even moreso if I am posting or communicating not on a personal account, but on my company letterhead. I bet that's true for a lot of us.

Just yesterday, a reporter from the Washington Post was suspended for a month for retweeting something. That something called into question their objectivity as a reporter and made the company look bad. The fine Del Rio received is actually not only pretty normal it's pretty tolerant for a multiple time offender.

  2. One thing to consider when asking, "Is Terry that good?" is Terry has been really good when surrounded by iffy teammates. Defenses know that he's the only receiver they have to key on. Terry hasn't had a QB able to maximize his abilities. With a better cast and a better QB (We may have that now if Dotson lives up to the hype and Samuels is healthy), does Terry move up one rank? Two ranks? Does he go from a receiver everyone talks about to one of the very top end of receivers?

There's a little bit of a gamble in projecting what Terry will look like with Wentz vs. Smith and Heinike, but the fact that he has become a nationally recognized great receiver despite everything else should not be ignored. More, rewarding your best is how you build culture. It's how you build your team.

The only reason not to get this contract done is because Terry wants out or Snyder can't afford it. Barring that, trying to rationalize the Front Office's failure in getting this done as part of player analysis and team construction is in my opinion wrong. Moreover, in the NFL, prices go up not down. Just a few years ago, this team was going crazy about the idea of giving Kirk Cousins a twenty million dollar a year contract. That was a top five contract. Today, it's a damn cheap contract for a starting QB. Unless the league flips and becomes a running league again, the prices of wide receivers aren't going down.

  3. I do think it likely that the Republicans win back the House and maybe the Senate. Gerrymandering, changing voter laws, inflation, supply shortages due to the mismanagement of Covid and other factors all lead to that conclusion. I also think the Republicans strategy of opposing everything that could possible benefit the American people no matter how popular with the American people will sadly prove an effective strategy.

    BUT

What in the world does that have to do with this thread?

    Look at what we know:

    Every court challenge failed

Guiliani admitted before a judge there was no fraud

Bill Barr said he looked and found no fraud and that the allegations of fraud are bull****

Ivanka Trump said there was no fraud

that company that promised to find fraud in Arizona and got access to everything couldn’t find any fraud

in fact, the only cases of proven fraud were done by people fraudulently voting for Trump.

I said elected officials and supreme court justices. I take it you don't find it important to protect judges as well?

The protecting issue is like hardening schools and arming all teachers. It's sleight of hand. Besides, it's another side of the "free speech zones" idea that the right occasionally likes to push.

    Remember when they said,

"They should not be allowed to march because it interferes with traffic!"

"They should not be able to protest in public places, because no one should have their lunch disturbed."

"They should not be able to protest in front of homes because a protest that is heard may be listened to!"

Even with that said, it's fact that Pelosi was in charge of security,

This has been debunked, I believe. The people with the authority to call the National Guard include the President and the Secretary of Defense. .

    https://apnews.com/article/fact-checking-235651652542

CLAIM: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blocked the National Guard from coming to the Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection.

AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. As Speaker of the House, Pelosi does not direct the National Guard. Further, as the Capitol came under attack, she and the Senate Majority leader called for military assistance, including the National Guard.

  7. You know, this morning, I’m struck by the fact that I’ve never sought a pardon. I don’t think I know anyone who has sought a pardon. I mean pardons are cool. They’re literally a “Get out of jail free” card, but they’re also an admission of guilt.

The fact that several elected congressmen believed they required a pardon due to their treasonous actions should be chilling. They should be removed from elected office. Asking for a pardon is an admission that they broke their oath of office.

Why then do I suspect that republicans will just shrug?

Agree, though for Dan its been how he's rolled for years as for in house contracts.  Summer seems to be when he likes to do these big in house contracts.

In his defense, I doubt he antcipated the WR contracts escalating the way they ended up going up.  They often will go up post FA but nothing crazy dramatic -- this time it was crazy dramatic.  It's likely going to end up costing them another 5 million a year on the cap each year of the contract.

I don't think that's fair. As soon as you see the first contract drop, you pretty much know a new NFL floor has been set. That's when you need to get mobilized even if you like to wait. After all, the rule of elites is that each deal must outdo the one previous. So, being the last receiver standing means Terry and Terry's agent expects the biggest contract of them all which is probably why the sides are reportedly "far apart."

The Marties are probably working off the plan they developed in January and not the reality of early summer.

  11. Going optimistic, I see 12-5. Last year, pretty much everything that could go wrong went wrong and we were a hair’s breath from making the playoffs.

Think about it: we lost half the team to COVID, our starting QB who was regarded as a backup lasted 1/2 of one game before getting hurt and making way for a QB that wasn’t highly regarded enough to make a practice squad less than a year earlier. Then, we lost our best tight end, our third down back, our top five centers, our best three pass rushers, and we still almost made the playoffs.

If we have half the bad luck we did last year, this is easily a playoff team.

That said, I don’t think there’s an OC out there that can’t put-chess Del Rio. Last year, he made Blache look like an innovative wizard. We also don’t know if our DBs will rediscover how to cover and communicate. So, the negative part of me sees 7-10.

  12. I really wish we know what was going on behind closed doors. The longer this drags out the more our imaginations darken. Hopefully, they are on the phone every day, getting closer. Hopefully, there is already a handshake deal that they are waiting on for some legitimate reason.

If not or if it really is only about liquidity then Snyder if he loves his childhood team needs to bring in partners or sell the team. Mind you, if he loves his childhood team then right now the best thing he could do for it is to sell it for any number of reasons.

  13. Didn't Snyder have some partnership deal going with Tom Cruise at some point? If so, I expect our mascot not to be Tom Cruise riding his Top Gun motorcycle with a hot chick behind him, but the volleyball!

Meet your Washington Commanders mascot... Spike!

Who's to say the Commies even offer Terry a deal at all or what the current market for WR's is offering.  They could say, we'll just ride the season with Terry on the last year of his rookie deal.  If Jahan has a good year and Curtis bounces back; why spend that money on Terry.  If we have to franchise him in 2023; so be it.  I know you all think that the team will offer something shortly to Terry and they might but they could also just push this to 23 and could let Terry walk; if Jahan and Curtis do well.

They have to prioritize where to give the big bucks to.  Do we give Terry the big dollars or hold that to pay for Sweat next year and then Chase?    With this team being headed by a defensive coach; they may prioritize the big dollars for defense except QB and go cheaper on offense.

I could be dead wrong but if you don't see Terry signed to an extension  by the start of training camp; then I think this team will gamble on seeing if Jahan and Curtis can be the primary WRs and they will be able to move on from Terry in 23.   The longer a new deal doesn't happen; then I think this is what the team wants to do.

Not offering Terry a deal and a good deal is bad for several reasons. First off, I honestly thinks it impacts team morale. I mean if the team won't take care of its best player, of the player it repeatedly says is its best player, than how does any player think the team will take care of them? If this was a one off, then you can say, "Hey, it's the player," but this team has history of not rewarding its best players and letting them walk. Now, we can say that was mostly the last regime although this player technically let both Trent and Scherrf go (I think both were probably the right call btw, but it doesn't matter in this context.) So, the players look around and say, "Trent, best left tackle in the league thrown out with the garbage. Scherrf, "Top right guard and they couldn't get nothing done? Now, Terry? ****! This is a team where you make your name to leave."

Now, you can say "Jonathan Allen," but you can also say that Jonathan Allen was the exception that makes the rule.

I could definitely see Terry take a big gamble on himself this season, knowing he will have solid QB play and some other weapons around him.

Wouldn't shock me at all to see him go over 1,500 and 10 this year and then go get really paid by someone else.

After the abuse he took last season putting the offense on his back and getting straight murdered for it, I wouldn't blame him for going that route either.

I agree. When a team goes all in on promoting you and put you on everything and talk you up as one of the major pieces every chance you get... then its on the team to step up. They can't exactly pretend he wasn't their highest priority (or second after getting a QB.)

    Finish the damn bathroom!

I am underwhelmed by Washington's off-season strategy/tactics they seem to be following to address the concerns raised by last year's line-backing group.

IMHO, it seems Washington is whistling past the graveyard, and hoping for a "lucky break' at "waiver-wire" time.  So, is the approach will be the Washington coaches reassuring everyone how that same LB group will be so much better this year?

While I'd like to believe the hype, I can't help but note that Linebacker group has less veteran depth, less quality supporting players at "buffalo nickel", and more questions on how well the interior D line is going to keep the LB'ers clear of on-rushing O-linemen.

The UDFAs Washington brought in, might make special teams, and m-a-y-b-e might emerge to be serviceable players to spell Davis, Holcomb and/or Mayo, but they didn't seem like they'd be a quality "next-man-up" should one of the current trio of Wasjington LB'ers not be able to play for a few weeks.

Their offseason is saying very loudly, "We think our team was set minus a QB."

I don't think they're right. I think, especially with the departures, we are thin on the oline and at Dtackle (looks better if the draft pick works out.) We also have major question marks at linebacker and safety. I mean even if you believe in Holcomb and Davis what do we have if they falter or get hurt. David Mayo apparently is the starter during OTAs. My understanding was that he was signed as a special teamer and was a liability on defense.

Jay was quoted in the big ESPN Magazine article on KC saying Kirk didn't want to make certain throws that the play called for him to make, throws in tight windows. He knew Kirk lacked confidence in himself and was clearly frustrated with him. I agree with your comment.

The thing I found surprising is Kirk reportedly wouldn’t make those throws when being asked to in OTAs or practices either.
