Tommy-the-Greek
Stevie Nix, She had a voice like a siren in greek mythology.......That voice could seduce the pope. My God she was so hot...Father time has not been kind to her,but in my mind she was the best.

Terry
Wow, that IS a tough one. I'll have to list a handful:

Rock/Pop:

Chrissy Hynde
Grace Slick
Ronnie Spector
Linda Rondtstat
Patti Smith

Blues:

Tacy Nelson
Janis Joplin

Jazz/Standards

Sarah Vaughn
Ella Fitzgerald
Kilmer17
Aretha Franklin

Not my favorite, but undoubtedly the best.

Riggo-toni
Celine Dion?
Is you favorite sax player Kenny G?
Just kidding, of course.

Aretha Franklin and Grace Slick are definitely up there. For blues, I dig Koko Taylor, though I wouldn't name her as an all time great.

I'll go out on a limb and admit I really dig Nancy Wilson (the fat, white one from Heart) when she's singing, as opposed to the occasional screeching when she tries to imitate Robert Plant. The first 2 Heart albums, before Fischer left the band, really had some sweet stuff. Okay guys, flame away...

As far as any newcomers go, though, I think Shannon Curfman is really phenomenal. If she stays on track, ten or fifteen years from now she might get my vote. Riggo-toni
Correction - I meant to say Ann Wilson. (Nancy is the one I always wanted to boink, and actually has a nice voice as well).
Henry
'sokay Riggo. We knew who you meant

Not a big Celine Deon or Grace Slick fan, but I have to agree about Aretha. Can't believe I forgot about her.

I also kinda like Gwen Stefani. She can't really belt it out like some of the others, but I like her sound.

[ March 06, 2002, 05:14 PM: Message edited by: Henry ]
CounterTre
Janis would top my list and Aretha is certainly in there. How about Diana Ross? Before she hit the needle and snorted her brains away, Whitney Huston had an amazing voice.
TennesseeCarl
There are only a few artists who, when they sing, you immediately know who's doing the song. It's that unique voice that creates the diva (in my opinion). There's more to it than that, but that's the major factor.

Here are the Great Female Voices (and it doesn't necessarily mean I'm a fan)

Aretha
Cher
Barbra Steisand
Celine Dion
Reba McIntire (She reigns in country)
Dolly Parton (She reigned in country)
Motown Diana Ross
Janis Joplin
Stevie Nicks
Ella Fitzgerald

Shania Twain will join the above group soon.

When the Greatest Male Voice thread starts, the first name (whether you like him or not) is Sinatra.

[ March 06, 2002, 07:03 PM: Message edited by: TennesseeCarl ]

RySkins
Glenn, I lived under the illusion that Rush's singer was a female for many years!
skinsfan44
Roseanne Barr. Remember when she sang the National Anthem at a baseball game(I don't know which one). That had to have been my all time favorite. NOT!!!
