Like, duh? Question of the year....Santana Moss.

They tried that. Cooley scored instead.

Exactly. If you overcommit to Santana, how do you deal with Clinton and Cooley?

There are lots of plays where Santana is doubled or tripled. But then over the course of the game, defenses have to gamble to come up to deal with Clinton and the others and then Santana starts to open up.

The way our Skins are playing lately, it's pick your poison if you're a D-coordinator.

Thank you very much!. Here's your answer. Ask Dallas! That is why NY chose to bring an extra guy up to stop CP. This is why I'm loving our chances if we don't have to travel to NY in the playoffs(if we beat Philly). Pick your poison baby! CP or THE deep threat SM. Damn it feels good to feel so good about the Skins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The giants doubled moss fairly often. The problem was that they occasionally put a safety up in run coverage. And other times, the safety didn't get the proper read on Moss and ended up getting burnt.

Cowgirls doubled him most of the night. They learned to respect him in week 2. But the short passing/ground game ate them up.

Finally, doubling Moss is great. But most corners give him a large cushion. Which leads to the flanker screen that he has done so well this year.

All told, the power ground game, combined with a solid short game has helped. Moss has flat out beat his coverage whether they use single or double coverage. And Gibbs has outdone defenses with superior play calling.

With Moss you only get to make one mistake. Because he'll take you to the house.

Want to know why they dont double cover moss? 2 reasons.

1. They cant do it every play. Would be too predictable to know where several defenders are going every play, and easy to exploit.

2. Cooley. Because of his production, defenses have to cover him. They cant cover him with a corner. A linebacker sometimes may do it, but generaly he is too slow. A safety is really the best compromise available, and if you know anything about football, Safeties are requires to cover TE's all the time. This means, several things.

In order for them to double cover moss, the safety on his side has to roll over to him. This means only one safety is available to either blitz, play a cover 1, or perhaps a robber(middle of the field looking for a pick). Now, because there is a cornerback on each WR, this leaves 3 LBs(in most defenses) and 1 Safety to cover. If you have a RB and a FB in the backfield, on passing plays, one LB is assigned to cover each(possibly a safety). If you then add a TE into the mix(cooley) who is very productive, or a third reciever, or 2 TE, everyone has to single coverage. That makes coverage very difficult when you double cover one guy, limiting your options.

First, you cant blitz. If you blitz a guy, that means that someone else has to cover his man(cooley). If you blitz 2 on a play, there is no way you can double moss, and still not have someone wide open in some cases. If cooley lines up to the same side of the field as Moss, the safety on the OTHER side would have to come all the way over to cover cooley, and either cooley would be wide open for the begining of the play, or the safety would have to give the coverage away very early, very bad. This means the safety normaly doubling moss would have to come down and cover cooley. Then if you want to play a cover 2, a pretty popular defense, you really are screwed with doubling on moss.

Doubling up on a WR is impossible for an entire game, no matter who he is. Its why you sometimes see TO or Randy Moss, or Steve Smith so wide open, that NOONE was covering him. You can do it sometimes, but only when he is their only viable threat(we have 2), and only for some plays, not all. If I knew that the other team was gonna double Moss every play with the CB and Safety, and play man defense, even I could call plays to roll a defense in the NFL.
