Civilization: Revolution for XBOX 360

OK, somebody help me out here. I love this friggin' game, but I get my ass handed to me if I try any level above warlord. Who's playing this thing, and what the holy bejeebus am I doing wrong?!?!

I try to build as many cities as I can as quick as I can. And then I devote two to science, and usually two to production. The rest I usually set to food or balanced, so they'll grow faster.

I've tried all the stratagies too; attacking right off the bat before the opponents get off the ground, and waiting until I have tons of armies and technology, and then going after them.

And don't even get me started on trying to win a tech victory. Hogs will fly before that happens.

Help.

Please? :)

Thanks, unfortunately, work firewall is blocking that link. And my home interwebz are down too. That's why I was hoping someone here might have a tip or two. Thanks though.

This site:

shows a forum section. You might be able to access that from work comp.

I'm not much into gaming, but that looks like a pretty cool game.

I have it for the PS3 and love it. I find that Emperor level is the most fun, yet still provides some challenge.

The problem with building lots of cities is that it takes 2 population away to build the settler. If you keep building settlers, your capital city will never grow.

You want to try and find as many barbarian villages and huts as possible. You get a free settler at 100 gold, I believe. Always try to get ahead in the tech race at the beginning, so always start your tech tree with alphabet and build a library (and colossus of rhodes, if possible.) You should be able to get most of the techs first, if you make that your focus. It is also very handy to find the artifacts, especially Atlantis.

It is easier to defend than attack, so I tend to avoid that. I tend to not stock many defenses in my cities, usually just one "army" of 3 archers/pikemen. If you are first to discover marble you get a free wall. If you are first to discover writing, you get a free spy. An archer army behind a wall with a spy can hold off for a long time.

Look carefully a the tech tree when making your pick. Some have great bonuses, like monarchy and invention give you a great person.

If you want a domination victory, the best way is to be the first one to get tanks and/or bombers. If you are the germans or arabs, you can possibly take out another civ pretty early.

-If the computer is about to take one of your cities. use diplomacy for a truce. It's much better to give a tech or gold than a great person.

-Take advantage of each civilizations unique abilities. If you are the spanish, use your navigation to find wonders. If you are the romans, building 1/2 price wonders is a huge advantage.

-make sure to group your units into armies, unless you are just using them to explore.

-spies can kidnap a great person from another city without it starting a war. Very nice

-Easiest to hardest wins: Economic, Culture, Space, Domination

-Usually democracy is the best government. Communism is good, but comes too late in the game. Unless you want to attack others, stick with democracy. The double science is too valuable

-The computer AI is bad when attacking you. They rarely will take more than 1 or 2 armies at you in a single turn, even when they have more available.

-If you get to upgrade your guys, engineer and then loyalty are best for defending unites. Blitz is the best for attacking.

Don't just build your cities wherever. Being on a hill gives you a 50% defensive bonus. So try to build on the hill and stay away from building next to a hill and giving attackers that bonus. Also be sure to build where good natural resources can be found.

Don't send settlers/spies out unprotected. Always bring an escort.

Don't build every building. Build the ones that make sense for your strategy. Always try to get production bonus buildings, like mines and workshops.

-It's handy to keep catapults/cannons/tanks in your city to attack a civ that is coming at your city. Just leave then in your city so they are defended.

-When building a space shuttle, you can add extra propulsion/fuel to make it arrive faster

-If you don't really need to build anything in a city, custom choose your resources for population and science

Civ Revolution would be my 2008 game of the year. I've been playing it for months and find it just as addicting today as the first time I played it. It seems simple, but it is actually a very deep game if you want it to be.
