Arsenic
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1968889 The Baltimore Ravens are expected to announce two additions to their coaching staff Tuesday. Jim Fassel has agreed to accept the job as offensive coordinator, and former University of Washington coach Rick Neuheisel will be named quarterbacks coach. It is also expected that defensive line coach Rex Ryan will get the defensive coordinator job once Mike Nolan negotiates a contract to be the next 49ers coach. He is expected to finalize a deal with San Francisco as early as Monday night. Fassel was a senior consultant with the Ravens this season, working primarily on the development of second-year quarterback Kyle Boller. Fassel hoped to land another head coaching job but did not receive any solid offers and appears ready to accept the task of improving an offense that finished 31st in the NFL this season. Fassel replaces Matt Cavanaugh, who was forced out at the end of this season. Last week, Cavanaugh accepted the offensive coordinator's job at the University of Pittsburgh, where Dave Wannstedt is the coach. Fassel, who was at the team's training complex in Owings Mills on Monday, did not return phone calls. He was head coach of the Giants from 1997-03 and led New York to the 2001 Super Bowl, where the team lost to Baltimore. Neuheisel was 66-30 over eight seasons at Colorado and Washington before being fired by the Huskies in June 2003 for participating in a big-money college basketball pool. The NCAA investigated both Neuheisel and the Washington football program and ultimately cleared the coach of any wrongdoing. "We have been told it's going to happen, but nothing definitive," Neuheisel told The (Baltimore) Sun. "It looks promising. I don't want to put the cart before the horse and I'll let [head coach] Brian Billick do that." Neuheisel originally interviewed for the offensive coordinator's job. GrimReefa
Brilliant move hiring Neuheisel so they'll have a replacement in place for when Fassel gets a HC job elsewhere. Something we should have done of the defensive side of the ball back when he hired Marvin Lewis as our DC (of course, things ended up working out for the best there, didn't they?) TheDoyler23
It's win-win for Fassel and the Ravens. Fassel gets a promotion so he can springboard back into a head coaching job in 2006, The Ravens get a quality coach for another year, and can tab in Neuheisel to be OC in 2006. scruffylookin
They still have Boller at QB. What's that old saying, you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.
McMetal
Nice stockpiling of offensive talent in the coaching staff, but it doesn't seem to lend itself to stability. Neuheisel has his work cut out for him with that bunch of QB's... Wasn't he the coach at Colorado when Kordell played there?
