The reasons he was fired were towfold.

1. The Skins wanted to bring in someone who they thought could do a better job, and Mitchell was not going to be happy about it. They wanted Dieon who was still doing a terrific job as a punt rerturner at the time, much better than Mitchell...turns out he did worse than Mitchell did that year.

2. Mitchell was a bad apple in a lot of ways. He would go on his radio show and whine and blame the other players for his own lack of success. He got very paranoid by the end and kept saying that the other playrs were out to get him.

Also let us not forget that he was cut by the Eagles and the Giants and talked a lot of trash about both teams afterwards as well. The Skins were not the only ones who gave up on him. He was a good returner for a very good team with the Eagles, but he was not so good with the Giants I think.

Mitchell was a great player for about ten years, but let's not act like the Skins did something outstandingly and unusually wrong by cutting him. In hind sight it may have been a bad decision, but at the time, it might not have mattered much if Deion had lived up to his billing.

How about the "Ring of Fame" at FedEx? There's got to be room for a few more of those.

Not exactly sure what the criteria are for inclusion into that exclusive club, but he would at least merit consideration, IMO.

The Ring is a nice gesture and honor. Everyone in the HOF (that we don't have) should be on the Ring too. I still say we should have a HOF built on the exterior of FedEx OR somewhere close to RFK OR somewhere close the Griffith Stadium property (Howard University Hospital). The history and heritage of the franchise could fill a building. All of the deserving players like Larry Brown, Art Monk, and Brian Mitchell would have a Hall they could be proud of. The fans should get to vote on the nominees.

Good that he's retiring as a 'skin.
