Matt Bowen Should be the NFC Defensive Player of the WeeK

Nick Barnett from GB got it. Seven tackles, one sack, one pick. The pick was one of those bobbled balls in traffic that popped into his hands. Also, Bowen's two beat downs on Billy Schroeder during punt coverage may have been part of ST and not counted in the defensivr tackle stats.

Those tackles count. They are defensive plays. Tackles are tackles.

Exactly. Notice how all of a sudden he takes the proper angles on tackles....?

hey, when your whole team plays like poo for an entire season, you are bound to take a few bad angles (granted several of his "bad angles" on big plays last year were actually cause b/c he had to re-angle himself in order to get around iffy who was being sealed to inside instead feeding the preasure back in like he was supposed to).

I believe he had a good game but he never played like that last year or we might not have need a Sean taylor.

The reason for getting Taylor was so we could move Bowen back to his natural position of SS and allow Taylor to play FS. I'm sure that's part of the reason why we see so much more out of Bowen now. It was Iffy who really needed to be replaced.

He never had the opportunity to take an angle Sunday. The Bucs were neve able to get anybody out in space running freely at a single defender. They were constantly surrounded and pounded. Compare that to last year when all too often on our run defense was:

1. The Dline is overrun, pancaked or simpy falls down, leaving one or mor HUGE holes to run through.

2. The LB's are off on a frolic of there own, nowhere to be found.

3. The FS is a converted SS who has never played the position and is lined up 30 yds deep. He is now isolated in space with no help. His COD (change of direction) skills are horrible and he whishes he were back playing SS.

I didn't see any of that last Sunday
