Art
Len P. wrote an interesting tid bit about the Redskins a week ago that seemed to compliment Mendes, insult Snyder, insult Mendes for that insult, and slight our scouting department moves for the loss of Scott Campbell who was among the "few" good scouts in the organization.

Well, appears Campbell is still here, and we know Mendes is in charge of the front office. I think that article by Lenny may have been tainted by a slightly stale donut and he was in an unhappy mood .

http://www.redskins.com/story.asp?ContentID=10784
Stricknine
I'm starting to like the way our front office is shaping up. We may actually be headed in the right direction. As long as Snyder just throws out ideas and does'nt say "I know you guys have done this a while, but I believe I am a genius." we'll be alright. TennesseeCarl
I don't think we're ever gonna please Lenny, but if we're successful, he's thrown so much crap out there about us that he'll be able to find some column and claim, "See...they did what I suggested and it worked."

I think that's how contemporary sports analysts work - the shotgun approach. As they say down here, 'Even a blind hog'll scratch up an acorn now and then.'
bulldog
the outcry from veteran NFL writers who view themselves as 'keepers of the torch' is always loud when a new owner with a new way of doing business comes into the league.

the criticism mounts until that owner either fails and then agrees to 'do things the old fashioned way' or is successful, wins Super Bowls and is then awarded at least grudging respect.

Pasquarelli doesn't like involved owners. He prefers the Mara/Tisch type ownership the Giants have had, where the owner signs the checks, shows up on Sunday in his box and then goes and plays golf or hangs out on his yacht or the ski slopes in Vail the other 36 weeks a year.

Snyder burns Lenny up the way Al Davis burned up NFL people back in the early 1970's and the way Jerry Jones burned people up after firing Tom Landry in 1989 when he bought the Cowboys.

Snyder has a long way to go to match Davis or Jones in terms of putting an NFL resume together, but it is interesting to note that both of the former have won more Super Bowls than a lot of the hands-off owners who do just as they are expected to do and leave all the decisions for their businesses to someone else.
