do we really want to see where we are at as team?

if we do then we minimize davis,s carries and the wear and tear on our franchise back and play our rookies every where. we are basically playing for draft positioning now anyway and should develope for next season but will napoleon (snyder) let marty do this? im sick and tired of being teased every year by going somewhere between 8-8 and 10-6 not playing young guys when we do play our young guys they rarely disappoint like samuels arrington jansen!i want dominance like with joe in the late eighties and early ninetys

Marty is not secure enough with Dan hovering to go out and play the Cardinals game as an exhibition, the pressure is there to win the game and finish 8-8.

If there were different circumstances and Marty was more secure for 2002 I think you might have seen some substitutions made after the Skins were out of the playoff chase.

But not now. The scuttlebutt about the hiring of a GM has everyone building up their defenses for the 'battle' and Marty would be in a stronger position at 8-8 to say the team is about to turn the corner after a poor start and thus no additional changes are necessary.

It has become apparent that this 'battle' will largely be fought in the press as 'team sources' have been quoted for over a week on these stories. That means someone is driving it if not Snyder himself.

Marty will try to give Snyder as few openings to attack him as possible.

You play the game of football to win. When you start playing for draft position, you become the Minnesota Vikings. Ryan, you don't want that brother smile.gif.

We know where we are as a team. We know where we are strong and not so strong. We know what we need to do in the draft. Winning is more important than losing, even if it means eight draft spots. But, again, if we lose, you are allowed to pump your fist just a little smile.gif.

Marty is insecure? I don't see that at all. Marty is the anti-Norv. He would bite Snyder's head off if he interfered. I see the SNL Frank Sinatra character flaring up if Dan provokes Marty. "I've got pieces of guys like you in my stool!"

Snyder is in the delicate position. Marty has a reputatuion as a solid football guy with the resume while Snyder is still trying to scrub the egg off his face for past football decisions. If he steps in and dictates the future to a guy like Marty, he will never shake the bad reputation he earned as a rookie owner.

I see no reason why we shouldn't play some of our younger guys. For example, Ben Coleman's injury is a perfect opening to play Brandt at RG instead of Campbell. Westbrook's injury is an opening to play McCants or Thompson at #2 WR, instead of Lockett (who's already a known quantity). This hardly constitutes throwing a game, and it does represent a responsible investment into the team's future.

That being said, the political intrigue regarding the team's GM duties and Snyder's potential meddling lead me to believe that Marty's going to be very unwilling to even potentially give up a win that would bring his team to 8-8. Besides, his reputation has been to play vets over young players. As a result, I wouldn't look for the young guys to get PT.
